- I set out to find the best roller in NES Tetris, and here's the result. This is from a poll that compiled hundreds of votes, giving viewers a chance to vote for the roller that they think is on top.

Rolling has been around for just a year, but in that time, dozens of players have switched over to the playstyle, using it to dominate just about every record in NES Tetris. Several players have made a name for themselves, such as World Record holder Cheez, Classic Tetris World Championship 2021 semifinalist Huffulufugus, killscreen record holder Ruins, and many more. One question remains: could any of them be considered "the best"?

EDIT: right as I was producing this video, EricICX achieved an incredible 1.4 million on a 19 start, entirely done with rolling. I will definitely revisit this poll in the future. Let me know who you think deserves a spot in the top five!
Top 5 is about right. For NTSC Tetris specifically, I’d replace fractal with hydrant/jounce as fractal doesn’t really have anything extraordinary on NTSC
A lot of focus has been on the mechanics of rolling. But I believe that there is still some stacking strategy to be developed for the fastest levels. Unlike standard stacking at slower speeds, with a right well, I believe that the best runs will be (and are currently being) achieved with a more U-shaped stack, where the left and right sides are built up, leaving the center lower, where line clears and Tetrises can be achieved. Since efficiency is not as important as on the lower speeds (where you're trying to achieve the highest score before some transition), you can instead reap the benefit of the additional safety of more often clearing lines in the center, where you don't have to worry as much about getting a piece over some column 2 or column 9 barriers.

Part of me not putting him on the list is because he's been somewhat dormant in the scene since his 1.6. That's still an absurd achievement, but the 5 rollers I mentioned have individually achieved feats that rival or surpass that in terms of how insane it is. He probably just hasn't been all too public with his rolling as of late, but he could definitely be on this list in the future if he returns.
I think there is a hidden Vietnamese Roller named TreePowo who never joined any competitions and she has a 1.1m PB. She is also a DAS and Roll hybrider as well

they are "Hybrid" cause they dont roll on 18 and 19.
Andy already has a 1.4 with rolling, and it was a single off a 1.5. Dog also has one, though slightly lower
@@ryanamburgy2791 Got it. Those two improve so fast I wasn't even aware. Still far from the top rolling achievements, but progressing at a scary pace.
