I lived in China 2010 to 2013. As a blue eyed white guy I got treated like a rock star everywhere I went. Strangers would come up and ask for photos with me. But on my first day in the country I met a guy from Kenya who was studying medicine in Wuhan. He basically helped me get from Hong Kong to Guangzhou (where my chinese wife was waiting for me). During the bus ride he told me a lot about the racism he experienced daily. He said it was a lot of small daily things that really bugged him rather than really aggressive things. Thanks for sharing your story. It serves as a good reminder that yes, everyone has a responsibility to make sure he/she is legally in the country. Always look at your own passport(s) and visas/permits while being mindful of all remarks and expiration dates (I believe on the Z visa it specifically states that you are required to apply for a resident permit within 30 days and the little blue (formerly yellow) entry card reminds you of your responsibility to register your address within 24 hours). Businesses will do whatever it takes to keep their profits high (even at the detriment/expense of their employees), and it is not uncommon to use this terrible “leverage tactic”.
Always, proud of you! I am in awe of your courage & strength. Thank you for speaking your truth about some of the atrocities of working abroad (albeit we are grateful for the blessings to be able to do this). Most importantly, thank you for taking care if yourself even as you continue to share. You have saved many. I was just sharing with a friend yesterday that I wish South Africa provided enough resources and opportunities for us so we don’t have to seek them elsewhere. We have the most beautiful country and we deserve to also enjoy its perks. Take care lovely.

I live in Thailand, the feeling of being cursed is how I feel here, so don't run over here- money is terrible, horrible bosses, visa runs that cost you money, its costs YOU money to work here..... just FYI
It's like this in most Asian countries based on who you work for. I loved Thailand but it wasn't good working for others on contract while doing so. People glamorize being an expat way too much.
First mistake, going to China with a tourist visa when your purpose is to work there. Second mistake, not reading the entry card they give you in the airplane, there it says you have 30 days to make your residence permit
I can't really comment. Africa and China has a certain relationship, I do not understand. As an African American going to China has never crossed my mind.
Reminds me of my last job in China, worst year out of my 8 years there. Usually the employers handle picking up at the airport, finding accommodation and basically treat you like an egg, my first 2 jobs were like that. But the third one 🙌🏽 I have no words
in the past few years, the Chinese government's policies have changed and they are way more anti-West now. You can get arrested for "Spying" without any evidence. The absurd thing is, they never tell you WHY you got arrested.
Honey 2022 to Shanghai 🥺 2022‼️Usually Chinese schools pay for flight, hotel and visa fees. If they don’t book they flight they reimburse you. They were really trying it. Good on you for standing on business and not paying that 3k
What some of you dont get is that traveling abroad is a gamble. In every sense of word. These organizations give you contracts and bring you in and it is their responsibility to make sure your paperwork is legit because of immigration. Some of them will literally tell you oh its no problem we got it, not a big deal! There are soooo many ways it all can go even when you do what they tell you to do and what you are supposed to do. Been there done that. Its not a matter of judgment its a matter of trusting people who have hired you to work. This is why I suggest that if people are leaving their homes to go to a new place, do not give up your entire life back home in case it doesnt work out. At the least put somethings in storage so if you must come back you have something. And always have enough money to put yourself in a hotel for a month where you are going. Some of these organizations are lawless, it is NOT the fault of the applicant.
As a full-time traveller, there is nothing I hate more than immigration putting responsibility on the outsider when they don't know the process! In some countries you have to register your address with the police within 48 hours, however ONLY your hotel or AirBnB host can register for you. If THEY don't register for you, YOU are the one who is responsible and you to pay the fine. If it's my responsibility, why not give me the ability to do it myself in the first place?! How do you give the local the ability to do it, but the foreigner the responsibility to make sure it is done. So in a lot of the Eastern European countries we have to run after our hosts for days to make sure they register us 🙄. I hate inefficient legal systems. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us.

First, I must say I am sorry to hear about your deportation situation. That must’ve been difficult. I am assuming based on the fact that the school semester starts in September they might have been disappointed that you weren’t there at the start. They should’ve told you to come in two weeks earlier so you could’ve gotten enough time to be quarantined and settled for school September morning. Overall thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Nolu, so normally I wouldn’t comment- or I’d say you know what- this is China, it is what it is- just suck it up BUT I’m so sorry this happened to you! It was really horrible. The whole residence permit situation wasn’t your fault, it was their mess. I also applaud you for standing your ground regarding the payment however that could have placed a target on you. I’m yet to watch p2 and p3. Thanks for sharing your experience, it’s important for all of us especially those in China.
it's like Qatar, the UAE and Oman, very similar behaviours. My wife is from Jamaica and had a really hard time in Qatar as a teacher. The thing is Nolu, surely you did your research about China and how racist they are about Africans? If I was African, China would be the last place on earth i would visit let alone work.
It's not about Racism. It is about Afticans not understanding these countries expect a higher standard of work and commitment. Thar is why they are way ahead. Her standard of work and attitude was not acceptable. Had she gone to other developed Asian countries, they would have sacked her too
Somebody, please tell me what's the attraction for black people to go to China, maybe I am missing something. As mentioned, I lived in Germany for 6rys and LOVED it.
Anytime you have a society, where every day, at the end of the work day, no matter where you are in any city in China, you're going to hear the Kenny G soundtrack, "Going Home", then you know that there is something fundamentally wrong with that society. I just had to say it! Your unfortunate experience reaffirmed some doubts and suspicions I've had about China for too long. I'd look forward to go for a visit, I'd supposed. But I have no interest, whatsoever, to be there long term. While it's true that "racism, sexism and all other isms" are prevalent everywhere, apparently China is one of those societies where said isms are virtually legal.
28:57 aahhh… the joys of being a foreigner. It is what it is. You are sort of in limbo of servitude to your host nation, second class citizen and if it’s a nicer country than yours a nice layer of wanderlust to glaze over all this.

This question is sooo stupid. The whole world was in shambles during Covid. It wasn't good or safe anywhere in the world. So where was she going to move?? Also, the money and opportunities and China can be really good for obtaining professional experience and building the initial stages of your life. China was harsh towards people during Covid, but people were dying right and left in the U.S. and in many African countries during Covid. In the U.S. the virus was handled poorly, so I myself decided to stay in China and put myself through school instead of coming back to the U.S. Please stop victim blaming.

Am i wrong sweetheart for thinking some of this ur fault.❤ hear me out… you went to a country to teach during a health pandemic and thought things would be organized ethical and structured! Let me know.
Yes. You are wrong for thinking that. A pandemic doesn't cause someone to punch a young woman in the face and treat her like crap. Please stop victim blaming.

@@kesay3466 Pandemic or not, there is absolutely no excuse for how this young woman was treated and it ultimately reflects poorly on China and underscores their deeply rooted racism. I've been living here in China for nearly 5 years now... and let me tell you.... the kind of nonsense this young woman endured would never happen to a white woman from Australia, America or Canada. There is absolutely no excuse for a teacher to be punched in the face. If you believe that a teacher is unprofessional or incompetent, then fire him or her, but resorting to violence is never okay or permissible under any circumstance. This African sister didn't deserve what happened to her. Point blank period. Hopefully you will just admit that your judgment is harsh and undue instead of being stubborn about having to be right.
If other Africans are like her, Asian employers should be warned. Any business will have to shut down if all employees were like her. Constantly having accidents and going on leave. Refusing to listen to feedback. Handing in work late. Just plain rude.
Everywhere is racist and as someone you’ve travelled a lot, Asia is the worst of all places especially when you have a problem and need government officials as a black person.
Here's the thing, it's a private school that means the parents are footing the bill and yes they run the show. Now put yourself in the parents position where you foot the bill, what would you do as a parent. This may be a prestigious school and probably a very expensive school. Obviously it's a bad situation, but it's a different culture and different expectations. How shall I say it, you're very ME type individual the school is more of a WE/THEY type mentality. I'm sure you've heard of the 996 work expectations from Chinese workers. From what I understand foreign English teachers are paid more than local teachers, so they expect you to behave like a local and some, because of the pay. With all the other offers, maybe you should have picked those others, more pay and on top of that you negotiated for an even higher pay may have already put you in a bad light with them already. In their eyes, your pay did not = to your performance. On top of that the issues that was attached to you (not necessarily your fault), they view it as a bad omen. Anyhow, I wouldn't last a day in a Chinese company even though I'm Chinese, I'm too set in my western upbringing. Work ethic is off the charts when it comes to Chinese workers and Chinese work expectations. Elon Musk was shocked and praised Chinese work ethics. Chinese work expectations and western work culture sometimes don't mix. And this is what seems to be the issue here.
Listen China and the Chinese will humble you hey. As a fellow Saffa who's lived there for the past 8 years even during Covid I can safely say don't move there without doing proper research about your employer. Also China is hard hey not an easy place
China is in complete shambles right now, the people are angry at the government and the government is angry at the people. I heard you’re out of there as of right now and if that’s true, I’m glad to hear it. I hope you and the country are able to heal ❤️🩹
I wish the Left would speak more badly of the Chinese. They tend to just concentrate on white Americans and Europeans. spread the negativity more "diversely" (the Left's favourite word)
Ya'll ignoring the fact that abuse is not normal! Chinese people have a problem with respect and racism. Even IN asia (i'm thai) we hate mainland chinese so much. You'll understand when you meet your really real mainland chinese.
Frankly speaking the whole idea of moving to China during a pandemic was a BAD idea! And you did operate with a lot of ignorance for someone who is a teacher….more research was really required before moving. And then you go to another country on the assumption that you can use your credit card!!!!! Basically go to another country with no money! Then the friend who said come to Shanghai where is he in all this? Isn’t that what friends are for? Share information and the whole process, share tips and key things about this move…help you settle or welcome you when you arrive, help you when in need?
First of all , You seem very nice and like a great person, very chill. But I feel like the catfishing looks super bad on your part. I think in China in Asia in general they care too much about appearances just based on all of the story times and videos I've read and heard. I also think Milly is so nice but i feel like shes kinda bending over backwards for you. The tardiness thing too. Ive worked with only asians before and they are so strict! I would never do that again. I think you should have done a bit more research before moving so soon like that! 😢 You seem too chill for a strict teaching job in China like that. The company that i worked in was only Chinese and Vietnamese. Another thing I feel like you had the idea that things in China were gonna be like how they are in Korea but I feel like Chinese have a different mindset than Koreans.
She is just plain incompetent. Handing in lesson plans late, refusing to accept feedback from parents, refusing to cut her nails. " Chill" is a very diplomatic way of putting it but she is like a fish out of water in an Asian work space. Her whole attitude is off. Btw ,thus won't be tolerated in western countries I have worked in either.
Not trying to judge you but I feel like you were careless and spoiled. Secondly, I have no idea why you left a country that was more like a second home for you to a communist country. China is a tough country and even if you offer me $8000 per month, I wouldn't go there.
She like many that leave SK is for money. She is very spoiled and she is good at storytelling. She is milking the China story for clicks and view. Drama sells 😂😂😂. She is pathetic. She is an example of western mindset that thinks she deserves a red carpet treatment. For living in SK for 5 years she seems naive.
i find this woman talks and talks and it still makes no sense! It has been almost a half a ayear and still she is "angry". it would be better to think how can she help others avoid her challenges, when millions of studients all over the world study in china, with no problem. What mistakes did she make? The wrong ompany? What is its name? Where did she find it? did she speak to other south africans who used this company? etc, etc. 2nd. Did the chinese govt investigate and punish the guy who hit her? If yes? or no? why not? All of this meandering he said, she said is not helpful and too personal. There are millions of manipulative people in the world! People who go abroad alone all are strong people! I have traveled to many countries and did everything myself. I found schools, jobs, etc... In paris a polish guy to advantage of me and I threatened him, but because I was american, he gave in and paid me my salary, then I left! People helped me, etc... That is what you do, when you travel alone. Otherwise, you go trhough a school in your own country who set up everything. That way you donot have to worry or be strong. cheers!
She seems to have problems everywhere. Even in South Korea . One of her videos was a rant about how Asian men don't want to date black women. She seems to have self worth issues, but at the same time seems to much prefer non African countries and even men.

Businesses will do whatever it takes to keep their profits high (even at the detriment/expense of their employees), and it is not uncommon to use this terrible “leverage tactic”.
You’re making too much sense, concepts like self responsibility and accountability are lost on this creator.

I live in Thailand, the feeling of being cursed is how I feel here, so don't run over here- money is terrible, horrible bosses, visa runs that cost you money, its costs YOU money to work here..... just FYI
Thank you for your comment I was considering moving there.😢
It's like this in most Asian countries based on who you work for. I loved Thailand but it wasn't good working for others on contract while doing so. People glamorize being an expat way too much.
So why dont you just stay in Africa?
Ariana what are you doing here??
When did u come to Thailand? It's been 4months to me it's not hecting at all just the salary is too little
First mistake, going to China with a tourist visa when your purpose is to work there. Second mistake, not reading the entry card they give you in the airplane, there it says you have 30 days to make your residence permit
You are absolutely correct.
I can't really comment. Africa and China has a certain relationship, I do not understand. As an African American going to China has never crossed my mind.
Consider Taiwan instead! I’m a black Jamaican woman and was fine ❤
Indeed, the relations between China and African countries are called a win-win. By the Chinese.
This was so informative. You are so articulate and a good story teller.
We love you Nolu and you look so beautiful, greetings from Kenya 🇰🇪

@@THE-id1by I said what I said ❤️!
Reminds me of my last job in China, worst year out of my 8 years there. Usually the employers handle picking up at the airport, finding accommodation and basically treat you like an egg, my first 2 jobs were like that. But the third one 🙌🏽 I have no words
Story time?
Are you still there?
in the past few years, the Chinese government's policies have changed and they are way more anti-West now. You can get arrested for "Spying" without any evidence. The absurd thing is, they never tell you WHY you got arrested.
What a remarkably eloquent young lady. You are clear, concise, and speak precisely with good pronunciation. You should go into media.
You are such an eloquent speaker. Well done.
Honey 2022 to Shanghai 🥺 2022‼️Usually Chinese schools pay for flight, hotel and visa fees. If they don’t book they flight they reimburse you. They were really trying it. Good on you for standing on business and not paying that 3k
From the onset there was so much trouble... 😢
Please write the book girl. I would read it. Trust me you have so many important points. People back home need to understand.
I can relate to some of these things you’re saying😢. I am also livjng abroad on my own and sometimes i question my decision, and i have decided to document 🎥 it all.
I wish you all the best in your future endeavours Nolu❤❤❤❤❤.
Am happy that you managed to run and you okay now, when i saw that video myself i cried
You need to write that book and give details to show the world what it was like. It's truly story worthy.
Finally I found your channel again 🎉 i guess it serves me right for not subscribing to behin with but I'm all subscribed now. There are other people talking about the same things but You tell it better ❤

Is Japan an option? Probably similar problems but at least there are foreigner-operated schools where many of these things won't happen. Random people will still want to touch your hair though lol. Sorry to hear about your so many challenges. Stay strong, I hope you find your peace.
You handled yoursell very well. Great story and story-telling. we kow-tow to you, 3X🙏📿
Had she gone to other developed Asian countries, they would have sacked her too
@@Sunshine-zi4nq in your opinion
Somebody, please tell me what's the attraction for black people to go to China, maybe I am missing something. As mentioned, I lived in Germany for 6rys and LOVED it.
Nolu God keep you my dear. Iam so sorry for everything that you went through. Iam in the process of moving out as well. It is toxic
Really toxic!!!
Best wishes ❤
This is so horrible! You should tell everyone how badly you were treated and physically assaulted. I hope you can get them prosecuted.
Congratulations on being so resilient! Your story is not just fascinating..... It's also going to help many other potential travelers.
28:57 aahhh… the joys of being a foreigner.
It is what it is. You are sort of in limbo of servitude to your host nation, second class citizen and if it’s a nicer country than yours a nice layer of wanderlust to glaze over all this.
After not getting a response the first time, it would have been my way out.
PASS THIS TO SERPENTZA if you haven't already.(other youtube channel) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He'll give it wide spread coverage!! So sorry for all you've been through..sending tons of healing vibes hun.
You tell stories very beautifully, you should try storytelling as maybe a side gig. You're very good at it and your beautiful accent really adds to it.
I was thinking about you! Why don’t you just come and teach in Japan? I will help you for free. It is super easy to land a job and teach English here. It would probably only take two weeks.❤🎉😊
Hey. Please share japanese recruiters

All I can say is I'm happy to see you ❤
Not to be disrespectful, but why would you move during Covid? Really sorry about your experience but sounds like you didn’t do enough research 🧐 happy you are home safe now ❤
This question is sooo stupid.
I have a family that wants me to au pair and I’m getting ready to apply for the visa and then fly there from Thailand this month. I’ve really been thinking about if I should do it or not…

Write that book. let the people of your country known
lol I can’t believe they really charged you 9000 rmb my husband is American, every time we renew the visa it was a smooth process even if it’s delayed… I think the reason they gave u a hard time is cuz they trying to punish the kindergarten for not following the rules … so the staff should hold full responsibility, sorry u have to go through all these craps
Thank you for sharing and I think for you to write a book is a good idea and then promote it by going on talk shows.
I can’t believe this happened to you😢 China is not a nice place for travellers
It appears they weren’t competent to handle the process because why did they allow things to escalate the way it did. 😢
damn im chinese and even i feel unsafe to be in China. cant imagine how terrible it is in a racist place with a autocratic bureaucracy
China is an amazing place. Unfortunately bad things happen in every land.
You moved to China at the wrong time , we all struggled here
Okay
to say someone move there at wrong time is crazy work..I dont care whats going on in America I still treat people well. Your statement is an excuse for somehing that is unexcusable. The chinese people are very racist towards black people no matter the time. Just be HONEST or say nothing!!
Write that book.

Apparently she was compensated so why doesn’t she mention that ??
My question is when you get a visa in your passport isn’t your first move to check the information on the visa mainly the expiry date
She always lies by ommission this one
Compensated by whom?
Where are your sources ? .. “trust me bro”?
sounds like the school was very disorganized and dragged you into that mess
never rely and trust the word of one person
Leave those Asian countries' please before you are seriously hurt.
@@janelleodionu3631 So, you are the problem. You are an emotional based thinker rather than a rational thinker. I said “some” not “all”. To grow and develop as a person? identify what Is your fault versus what isn’t ur fault. Of course no one should punch you. People like you Janelle who fail to identify personal development strategies, negatively impacts society and I guarantee your having personal issues

After she deleted my comment, communicating to you the importance of self growth and personal development strategies, I 💯 stick to my comment! Of course, no one should be punched in the face (that is why I referenced “some” not “all”) However, I do strongly believe that she contributed to some situations and that emotional intelligence is critical in cultural settings.
I'm sorry mkhaya, thanks for sharing. ❤
Time is money 😮
Time to come to the UK and get Married to me - I am looking for a wife. 🥰
Ew
I believe you should write a book at least serve as a warning to any people of color that are traveling to any parts of Asia
If other Africans are like her, Asian employers should be warned. Any business will have to shut down if all employees were like her. Constantly having accidents and going on leave. Refusing to listen to feedback. Handing in work late. Just plain rude.
Europe is very raycyst
Everywhere is racist and as someone you’ve travelled a lot, Asia is the worst of all places especially when you have a problem and need government officials as a black person.
We? Racist? We are too much soft maybe 🙂
Then go somewhere where it’s not
@@natak.2287But it's like that everywhere!! I can't escape that part of life either 😔👣
Now..... Oscar didn't get into trouble for giving you that great advice, right?
Bru 🤦🏽♀️ these people were something else.
And this is what seems to be the issue here.
karma will come promise karmaaaaa!
Sounds like they were trying to find a place for you because of all of the trouble that came from being in a hotel but you refused
come to india
Listen China and the Chinese will humble you hey. As a fellow Saffa who's lived there for the past 8 years even during Covid I can safely say don't move there without doing proper research about your employer. Also China is hard hey not an easy place
Why would you live in the country illegally and expect not to be deported???
Just 7 mins in she said she didn't know it. Did I miss something 🤔
Exactly 😅
She trusted the recruiter and didn’t follow up. Plus didn’t get everything in the contract
@gurlwhowants2dj how could she not know it? Didn't she even look at her passport?
China is in complete shambles right now, the people are angry at the government and the government is angry at the people. I heard you’re out of there as of right now and if that’s true, I’m glad to hear it. I hope you and the country are able to heal ❤️🩹
Utter rubbish.
China is in shambles? Then how would you describe most African countries including South Africa?😂
I wish the Left would speak more badly of the Chinese. They tend to just concentrate on white Americans and Europeans. spread the negativity more "diversely" (the Left's favourite word)
You pathetic hater, that's why life is bitter. May you find peace within.
In general it’s only hate on white. While there are more racism literally everywhere else
It’s “racist” to call any non-white a racist 😅
After listening to you, I conclude: your judgement is questionable!
Okie 🙂
What makes you say that?
China is straight forward, follow the contracts 100%, emergency is not their problem, have a community.
And you all do not see anything wrong with that? Okay
Ya'll ignoring the fact that abuse is not normal! Chinese people have a problem with respect and racism. Even IN asia (i'm thai) we hate mainland chinese so much. You'll understand when you meet your really real mainland chinese.
You're gonna have a really tough time in life then, good luck with your "100%" stuff...
Share information and the whole process, share tips and key things about this move…help you settle or welcome you when you arrive, help you when in need?
was this an illegal job?
Sounds like she didn't finish all the things before being qualified to working there.
Btw ,thus won't be tolerated in western countries I have worked in either.

i find this woman talks and talks and it still makes no sense!
