I wish we could all see the suffering behind addiction, instead of condemning people as if they were deviants. Trauma is at the root of all addiction, and the greatest trauma of all is the callous and calculating society we live in. Ironically, the church plays a huge role in perpetuating sexual and psychological abuse, so it’s an endless cycle that can only be broken by true compassion and support.
I would heart fully agree. But I must agree to go further, that it's symptomatic of a society we live in. Depression is the symptom of a missing human need both external and internal. An impoverished society, a competitive society, an exploited society. And we're not given the tools of power in how society is made.
@@toyotaprius79 I agree with both. The church problem may be old, but this loss of human connection is very new, think about it... I'm 36, my father has a different social problem, namely bread winner machismo, but not this need for connection. This new thing began around the neoliberal and third way movements in the US. Namely, around the time education was being slaughtered on a national scale. As early as 1968, with Reagan in California, then definitely with him as president. The war on drugs became the war on who can have an education, even just a cursory one. Lock them up, is the third way moto. I do agree with the problems of the church, however, we have entered an era where it is now the government doing the traumatic inception. Marginalize and gentrify, class separation. Capital competition is substituted for actual merit, and nobody from the bottom class is even part of the conversation, like they don't even exist.
Please don't be kind to me because you think you should...help me because you really want to. Most black market skills can be used for good. It bothers me when people say "it's all I know" because some of them would do quite well in a different environment. I like this guy....real smart....bet he was good at dealing drugs too

It honestly seems like hypercapitalist societies ridicule empathy as though we are all individual actors and as Thatcher said, society does not exist.
Yes and you have perpetrated the cycle yourself here in your comment. Well done!
