It's nostalgic for me too. The first time I planted them I shot back to my childhood home. I texted my mom and asked her if she planted marigolds and she confirmed.
This is the best video I’ve seen on UA-cam about Marigold. I saw them on sales during pumpkin season, so I thought it was a cooler climate variety. I didn’t know they can tolerate heat! I started seeds mid of Jul, and just moved them out last weekend (zone 8b). Let’s see how they will perform!
luckily see your videos. i also plant spun orange and white marigold "american eskimo" but still long way to blooming. thanks for the videos and cant wait to see your marigolds blooming 😊
I used these trays this spring and they germinated the seeds yet it was a struggle to get the plants out most of the soil stayed in the cells, so I now use the Bootstrap Garden cell trays with the Soligt trays.
@@shesamadgardener This is true moist soil helps. These are good cell trays, they worked, I just began using trays that were better for my needs. I placed the old trays in the bin.
do you not have a problem with your seeds stored below the heat mat and under lights, I realize it is contained but is the temp not a bit high for seed storage? love your content thank you z5b
I haven’t run it to a problem! The heat mats don’t put off that much heat and my seeds are stored at room temperature for the most part anyway so it’s on a few degrees higher.
I don’t know what it is about Marigolds but mine always die and have done for years. I haven’t tried sowing seeds myself I’ve only ever bought seedlings but I may tried sowing my own.
@@shesamadgardener yes I’ll try that but I’ve lived in New Zealand and Australia and in both countries I’ve had the same problem, shrivelled up leaves and when I dead head the whole plant shrivels up haha. I think I’ll give up with them. 😄
Growing marigold coco orange & gold and the safari mix from Baker Creek. Planted some of the safaris in my front yard rose beds. The wild rabbits ate them to ground after the first night. So frustrating after spending the time to grow from seed indoors. Will plant the rest of my marigolds in my backyard where I have a gopher problem. I bought the solar repellent stakes. I hope the gopher moves out. One more thing: I planted zinnias and circled them with slug plus. My three plants have disappeared. Could birds be my culprit?
It has been a terrible year for spider mites, already. What do you use for controlling them? I’ve used Captain Jack’s in the past without much success. Been using soapy water this year, also without much luck. Read a post to use alcohol with water but wasn’t sure how that would do with our heat. I live in Wylie, too. Interesting fact that you said Marigolds can be used as dried flowers. Never heard that before. Never know, right?
I love marigolds. I like the new varieties you planted.
Me too! I’m so excited to see how these do!
I'm one of those people that love the smell of marigolds. Also it's a nostalgia thing. I'm growing the Crackerjack variety this year. Love them.
I like their smell too!

Love how tall the cracker Jack marigold gets! I'm growing them also.
I had no idea there were so many varieties of marigolds. Beautiful! Thx for sharing.
You are so welcome!

Glad it was helpful!
So much wonderful information! Thanks so much. Loving your content 😊❤️
You are so welcome!
I fell in love with the strawberry blonde ones last year and I'm lining my entire garden with them this year to try and keep the squash bugs away.
That will be gorgeous!
Were you successful with these flowers and the squash bugs
Anxious for mine to bloom 🌼 they’re the tall ones.
Nice!

Wonderful!
I have never tried to grow marigolds, they are beautiful 😊😊😊
They are lovely!

I’ve always found that the soil needs to be moist and the little trowel helps, but I’m glad you found something that works for you!

Adore that tree shirt 😂. Do you remember where you got it?
Etsy!
Hi, what is your verdict on the Kilimanjaro? I've been eager to go some but failed couple of times already.
It was a fail for me 😢
I grow bedding plants to sell..on a very small scale. In zone 4b. I am deciding to do 4 or 6 packs...what do you all think?
I’d say 4 packs
As far as I know, it is the leaves that smell. So great for the vase if you strip the leaves off
Definitely!
What do you find your time from sowing to developed flower typically is?
It varies per variety of flower … most are around 100 days.
I am wondering ... what would be your opinion on using Sweet Peet for the seed starting medium ... ???
Oh Yes one more question ... do you pinch back your Marigolds ... ???
I’ve only use regular potting soil and seed starting soil, so I can’t give an opinion on that.
Not usually unless I want them to the short and bushy.

Can we plant Marigolds over daffodil bulbs?
Yep! However, marigolds should not be planted until after your last frost.
@@shesamadgardener ok .. I tried starting them from a flower that I had and it’s been 7 days I don’t see any signs of germination 😞

It could be the location in your garden or lack of water. Try changing up your locations to see what happens!

Birds wouldn’t be the issue with the zinnias … you might have a rabbit there as well.
Is pronounce [TA] + [JEE] + [TEEZ] 😀 and they are gorgeous. Personally I like there smell but I know a lot of people don’t..
Thank you! I’m terrible at pronunciation!
I am growing marigolds from seed but the rabbits are devouring the tops! Any suggestions?
Yes, cover the seedlings with a slight dome of chicken wire … you can use landscape staples to pin it down.

I use the Captain Jacks. I have also found a firm spray from the hose knocks them out as well. Consistency is the key!
