Yay - so excited for you to grow some 'Cantaloupe Mix' flowers! 🧡☺🧡 Note that - although their common names are similar - pot marigolds are actually a different species of plant (Calendula officinalis) than the marigolds we discussed in this video (Tagetes erecta). Common names can be so confusing! 🙃 Both are beautiful plants worth having in your garden, and I hope you are rewarded with lots and lots of gorgeous cantaloupe-colored calendula blooms 😍 Thanks so much for sharing what you are growing and for taking the time to leave a comment! Have a wonderful, flower-filled day 💚🤗💚
I don't care for the scent of marigolds so I'm trying the White Swan this year and love it! Apparently the squirrels do too. I have a squirrel that is biting off the flower heads, eating them and mocking me the whole time. Have I said I don't like squirrels?
Oh, no! 😱 Apparently everyone does love 'White Swan' - you, me, the squirrels, the deer... 😂 Hope your animal friends leave at least a few blooms for you! 🐿😫🐿 Best of luck with your marigolds, and thank you so much for watching! Have a fantastic day 🤗
You have inspired me to try the white swan--had NO idea that existed and did not realize it was the foliage that had he scent. I do not like that scent but would definitely try stripping the foliage to get the great flowers!
Yes, give marigolds a try in your bouquets! Tagetes erecta (the African / American / Aztec marigold) is an excellent species for cutting. It is much taller than the the shorter bedding-type marigolds most people are familiar with. Whether you prefer the traditional orange, yellow, or gold flowers or the more subtle cream and green colorations we mentioned in the video, there is a marigold for everyone 💚 Thanks so much for watching, and have a wonderful day! 🤗
I was wondering if you guys would be interested in selling seeds ( and seeds only) to Canada? Swallow tail seeds and select seeds ( in USA) will ship to Canada and no certificate is necessary...from what Im aware of. BTW I am growing COCO gold and orange!
Hello, Lydia! I will pass your comments regarding shipping to Canada along to Lisa - thanks so much for your interest! I love Coco Gold and Deep Orange, by the way - so happy you are growing those 🧡😍🧡 Thanks again for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment! Have a fantastic day 💚🤗💚
Bad luck germinating marigolds in soil blocks; got ten marigolds out of 60 blocks seriously, the small blocks turn into hard bricks overnight. I will start using a humidity dome over the trays. The seeds that sprouted are blooming now 😢
Hello! So sorry to hear about your poor marigold germination 😩 Are you using a soil mix specifically intended for soil blocking? Which end of the seed are you pushing into the blocks? Which variety are you growing (we have noticed that some varieties tend to have lower germination rates than others)? What is the air temperature in your grow room, and are you placing the seed trays on a heat mat? In the warmer months, my growing space tends to get very warm, and I sometimes find that I need to water my 3/4" blocks twice a day during the germination process to maintain proper moisture levels. Let me know if using the humidity dome you mentioned does the trick! Best of luck, and enjoy the blooms of the seeds that did sprout 🧡 Have a wonderful day! 🤗
@@LayneAngeloTGW The soil block mix is 4 parts shifted Fox Farm Coco Loco, 1 part compost, 1 part perlite, green sand, and rock phosphate. The pointed ends are pushed into the blocks. The trays are placed under grow lamps. I use temperature-controlled heat mats, and I covered the trays with plastic wrap. I planted the African marigolds and the white swan marigolds. I may have by trial and error figured out the problem: the blocks were either too dry or too wet. I watered the micro blocks once per day but I had a fan in the room and they were rock hard the next day, even when I covered them with plastic or burlap. The one-inch blocks under the humidity domes got too wet, which caused algae to grow. I am going to try again with new seeds that I purchased from the Gardeners Workshop. The humidity domes prevent drying out, but the trays require less water, so I have to water them differently. Are your trays placed under grow lamps during the germination stages? Thanks for helping, I almost gave up.
no i do not like the smell of marigolds...ugh...but i love growing them from seeds I have been harvesting the seeds for 20 years or so.I plant the orange, the red/gold, the rust colored and the yellow, I love all colors and they are perfect for fall porch pots! the lady said the color of the lime green changes and then the older lady said the very same thing....odd and funny was she not listening??? lol
Hello! Your marigold colors sound incredible 🤩 Do you happen to know the name of the rust-colored variety? I bet it is gorgeous 🥰 Thanks so much for watching and for sharing what you are growing! Have a lovely day 💚🤗💚
I absolutely love the scent! Reminds me of my childhood and pixking them with my sister.
I just ordered the Pot Marigold, Cantaloupe Mix. So excited to catch this video!

Interesting podcast. I don’t think of marigolds as a bouquet flower. Have to give it a try.
