Were you in the pits at the top of little glass butte? I'm planning a trip back there soon, going after rainbow this time, appreciate any tips you have. Got a huge chunk of mahogany and some silver sheen last time. Hoping for a few small pieces of rainbow this time. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I couldn't say because this spot was shown to me and I'm not very familiar with Glass Butte. It's a fun place to visit but also a major road trip for me so I only go occasionally.
We mined some incredible rainbow obsidian at Glass Butte, Oregon. Anyone rockhounding Glass Buttes is sure to come across obsidian. There is mountains of natural glass. It's easy to find black obsidian, mahogany obsidian, rainbow obsidian and more!

Awesome color. I was digging at Glass Buttes last year and scored some super Tri-Flow - but missed the Rainbow material. Gotta go back! Maybe with a detour to Mount Bachelor. Thanks
You should! Glass Buttes is a great spot to visit. If you plan on making detours, Hampton Butte is in that area as well. I ended up camping at Glass Buttes and going after Hampton the next day. It makes for a great weekend.

Beautiful rainbow obsidian! What is the best way to create something out of those slabs?? And the best way to cut to expose the pretty colors?
