There is actually a few spots less than a mile from the creek you can find some gorgeous Carnelian both in solid crystaline form by itself and mixed with other types of chalcedony as some amazing agates.
Jasper is the opaque version of microcrystalline quartz. It's popular in gemology and mineral collections and comes in a range of colors, often with unique patterns or inclusions. Because it's opaque, it doesn't let light pass through.
