Lisa Marie, Brian has changed thru the years. I think he's more polished singer, However, Kirk Talley by a mile...in my opinion. BF's squishy, squinty n squirmy voice is annoying in this song, period.
Ahem....Lets not forget Gary Sheperd. Kingsmen tenor on "The Judgment" as well as many other Kingsmen songs. Excuses comes to mind as well. Just my personal favorite!!
@mjdewalt he still has most of the range and bfaa (brian free and assurance) still sings looking for a city and he still tears it up! their bass is good too!
I think the Cathedrals had a better arrangement of this song, but you can't knock Gold City for not being rock solid. These guys are all talented. Brian is truly in a league of his own.
@chattownco13 How does someone do that with their voice. I am guessing you are talking about Tim Riley. You have to be blessed with talent which Tim is, a good sound tech, the proper settings and a LOT of volume help too. Not all bass singers were blessed with the natural deep voice of JD Sumner, so most needed help. When the song called for lower notes, the mic came in close because volume was lost in voice.
@MrKyledude18 Does anyone know if Brian still has that much range now a days? I know a lot of singers tend to lose some top range when they start getting older. I haven't followed him for awhile, so I'm not sure if he's doing stuff like "Looking for a city" and other super high singing like what's in this song.
i'm sure everybody here will kick me off here but i have to say this: YES, i do preffer The Cathedrals' version for this song; and YES, i think Jay Parrack is better than Brian Free... But i love Gold City as much as The Cathedrals... and Brian Free is a great tenor, i just think Jay is better... ;D
huh? I think you are a little outta touch with your dates.... Gold City STARTED singing in 1980, and Kirk Talley started singing with the Cathedrals in 1980...
Bless Brian Free's little heart, but his voice lacks depth and while it is very high tenor it isn't exactly pleasant to listen to for any extended period. I like my tenor with a little more range and depth, but that is just me.
I remember going to all their concerts..
They were Great!!!!
Now they have Went "
or rather moved " in different directions.. God Bless Them..👏🙏🙋♀️
MY WORD, these guys were good.... the best EVER! These guys are as good as anything out there today even. What a lineup.
By the end of the 80's and early '90's, Gold City, had surpassed the Cathedrals....
Brian is the most wonderful person. And he is the best tenor. Please don't say anything negative about him.
Good one
Love this song and version
Brian Free Is Awesome, and My Favorite Tenor Singer By FAR
Lisa Marie, Brian has changed thru the years. I think he's more polished singer, However, Kirk Talley by a mile...in my opinion. BF's squishy, squinty n squirmy voice is annoying in this song, period.

And they don't miss a beat while doing it! :D
They are good
Love it. Keeps me pumping
Ahem....Lets not forget Gary Sheperd. Kingsmen tenor on "The Judgment" as well as many other Kingsmen songs. Excuses comes to mind as well. Just my personal favorite!!
The small guy is awesome
@mjdewalt he still has most of the range and bfaa (brian free and assurance) still sings looking for a city and he still tears it up! their bass is good too!

Essa música é uma das preferidas.....
thanks for post
I love the man or girl with high voice
❤
I don't know if he is better, but he sure can sing high! both have their own unique styles
@Losteryt it may be just a high pitched squeal, but its the best high pitched squeal
I've ever heard! (:
I don't know how you can say that. I know Brian has gotten better but he was still great here. Sorry but that note was a great tenor going higher.
Maybe 'I' can't... but there are others that can! ;)
@Nagraath no. everyone IS a blessing from god! a blessing by god is a gift like this! :P
i can't believe how tim looks here and how he looks later on
Now that's what you call raising the roof at about 2:00 min.!!!
@MrsKravitz4u1 I could listen to him all day!

The first time I listened to this song, I thought that Brian was a girl, he was so high!
@mjdewalt good ole brian tore it up at 158/159
At 1:33. Was there tension going on between Brian Free and the guy beside him?
You mean Ivan Parker? Possibly the best lead Singer ever? Nah, they were just messing around.
Dalton Watson
nope just look at brian's face afterwards. he was smiling
John Doe Yeah, XD I love seeing them doing that.
:-)
mt bom
Moh-oh-oh-oh-oh-vin?
@fox76012 ther is only one preciuse and that brian free LOL
Not a bad version, still prefer the Cathedrals version. But none the less good to see GC on a classic song.
I liked this particular Gold City group better than the Cathedrals. Both good though.
Someone below me says that Jay Parrack is better than Brian Free ...
PHAHA! That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard! Lol!
Rick Fox Jay Parrack's father is better!
i'm sure everybody here will kick me off here but i have to say this: YES, i do preffer The Cathedrals' version for this song; and YES, i think Jay Parrack is better than Brian Free... I love Brian Free's tenor, but Cathedrals were way better at this song!
The temor on this video can sing but I like Kirk Talley better.
The Cathedrals do it better
Ernie's not even in the Top 5 Currently.
Hm, I don't like this version of the song... :s
The Cathedrals version is far better for me.

IMO, better than the Cathedrals version... not as, dare I say it, corny as the Cathedrals version?? Sorry I had to say it.
It's just like saying Lars Ulrich is a better drummer than Buddy Rich. Its ignorance at its funniest!
Awful Toupees Timmy boy...
