Just so other US viewers are aware 8 ply weight in Austrailian terminology is equivalent to DK (which stands for "Double Knit") or Light Worsted weight in US terminology.
Also if you are finding the finished piece does not quite fit, if you are knitting in a natural plant fiber or animal fiber yarn, you should be able to block the sweater, which will relax the fibers and give it a better drape. (And in turn it should make it a touch roomier.) For many old school knitters this is a mandatory step, to achieve a true "finish". However if the fit is perfect already you may wish to skip, since it can cause the piece to "grow" slightly.
Hold the sweater in the sink and gently soak it until it is damp throughout. If it becomes too wet wring it out by folding the sweater and pressing it in your hands gently over the sink, not by twisting it, so you don't misshape it or wrinkle it. Then lay the sweater flat in a towel and roll the towel up to soak up excess moisture so that it is just slightly damp. Lay the sweater out on a dry towel on your floor. Make it as flat as possible. (If you have a blocking pad or foam sports flooring and rust proof pins you can pin the sweater out on the blocking board slightly taught to relax the shape further, or you can use rust proof blocking wires.) Then let the sweater air dry and you should have a blocked sweater.
I finished both the sleeves in May, but haven’t started on the body yet. I was waiting for this video, clearly. 😂
Hi Janelle, hope you are having a lovely weekend. I started this jumper a long time ago. All I’ve got left is to weave in ends (I know I’m not the only one who does this with knitting projects LOL). I did end end up knitting sleeves twice as I found they were way too voluminous to suit me, so I took out one (or 2, can’t remember) repeats of the pattern. Anyway it turns out I chose a size too small, so I’m going to find it a new home. One day I would like to knit it again in a better quality yarn at a bigger size. I have a tip for your viewers who are new to lace knitting 🧶 I found it helpful to put stitch markers between each repeat of the pattern. This wasn’t a tv knit for me. I made several mistakes but using the stitch markers helped me to keep track and pick up any mistakes earlier. May this is the inspiration I needed to finally weave in those ends! 🌸
I’m so glad to hear you had a go at this project and that you were able to customise the sleeves to suit your style. Hopefully you can make one to fit better next time! Thank you for sharing your experience and tips 😄
This pattern is so cute! When I can justify making another sweater it's on my list haha!
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the materials list, you don't technically need a row counter or stitch holder, I just use scrap yarn to hold my yarn and tie it in a little bow so the stiches won't move around. To count rows I just keep tallies on a sticky note or notebook that I keep with the project! ( I would keep my tallies in groups of 12 for the lace repeat so if you have to put it down suddenly, you'll know which row your on - so if you have 7 tallies, you'll know you're on the 8th row of your lace repeat)
Such great tips! Thanks so much for sharing 😊
Very cute! I’m not quite at the skill level for this project yet, but hopefully one day!
I understand your knitting so much easier than anybody else’s! I am left handed and I was able to follow along. I haven’t knitted in so long, but this makes me want to make this sweater!☺️
My Rosery jumper is done! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this great tutorial! ❤
All your video makes everything difficult to start so simple. Thank you so much for always inspiring us to take up new skills.
I would highly recommend using circular needles rather than straight needles ~ the weight of straight needles after knitting up a jumper can get very heavy in the hands. Knitting with circular needles will alleviate that weight and make it easier to knit 💕
A lot of people tell me this (my Mum included), but I just haven’t been able to get the hang of them yet!
@@RoseryApparel oh you need to try, they're the best! Not only they distribute the weight better, they're also more portable, but the best part about circular knitting is that it allows you to knit without seaming😄
@@RoseryApparel if it’s the cast on bit that you aren’t used to, I would say cast on with a straight needle and then slip it onto the circular needle. If it’s actually using the circular needles I would say trying using 1 straight needles and 1 circular needle and practice knitting onto and off them or just get an extra long cable so that it give you a lot of room to hold your needles in a comfortable position. I’ve got quite long hands and I find 4 inch length needles (excluding the cable bit) quite comfortable to hold as the end of the needle rests at the bottom of my palm which makes the act of knitting quite light and easy. ❤
I don't understand... Wouldn't using circular needles change the pattern? Or is there a specific technique to knit flat with cn?
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this tutorial for us. It is such a beautiful pattern and as an adventurous beginner would not be able to make pattern without this additional help. Thank you for all your help 😊♥️😊
I have been waiting for this video ❤ I asked for yarn for this project for my birthday earlier this month and I'm so happy I have this video to help me through it. It's been years since I've knitted and nothing this complex. Ready for the challenge ❤❤
Great tutorial Janelle. Thank you, can't wait to try it! !
Your jumper looks amazing.
I learnt to knit last year, only made one completed vest. I had to put the needles away to recover but seeing this video makes me want to pick them up again and make this jumper! It is stunning!
I don't do much knitting but enjoyed watching your jumper come together. It's very beautiful, Janelle! ❤
Wow a knit patterns I can understand! I really think being left handed can be a struggle when learning to knit so we need more like yours ❤
Also you don't knit wierd as I knit like you too, I think it bc it more "crochet like" with you movements (at least in my case and it seem like that with yours too)
Hi. That's a lovely jumper, I love the colour and the loose fit of the sleeves. Thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you are having a great weekend.😊
Geez you are so good at demonstrating how to knit, wonderful video as always!
Thank you! It’s my first knitting tutorial so that’s really great to hear 🧡
@@RoseryApparel totally nailed it, great for beginners
Great sweater Janelle! 😊
This has inspired me to swap back to knitting for a while, its a beautiful pattern!🌻
I found your knitting style very intriguing, left handed, makes sense once you explained it ☺️
Love hearing that! Ha yeah the way I knit is so weird 😂
Thank you for making this. I’ve been wanting to make this jumper for ages 🎉
You’re so welcome! Hopefully you’ll find this video helpful 🧡
This was a great tutorial... Thank you!
Have made the Rosery sweater and love it! Wear it all the time and think I might need another… 🙈😆
Thank you for this tutorial. I've downloaded the pattern and have bought the yarn. I just need to get started 😁
Thank you for this great tutorial! I had gotten this pattern from you awhile back but it was hard for me to understand vintage knitting patterns. Now I can actually try to knit this!
Yeah vintage patterns are very vague at times! I hope being able to actually see how to knit this project up will be helpful for you 😊
Love love love this! ❤️
Thank you!! 🧡
Thank you! ❤
Oh man, You make it look easy but I had no idea what you were saying lol. It’s a really pretty jumper and I love it in both colours ❤
This video has really encouraged me to take up knitting again!😄
Yay so pleased to hear this! Knitting is the best 😍
I’d totally love to learn how to knit properly so I can whip up this beautiful sweater! I wanted to drop a quick message to let you know that today I’ve featured your tutorial (with proper credit) on Crafts on Display, a thriving community of fellow crafting enthusiasts. I hope you enjoy it, and keep up the fab work!
Amazing tutorial as always Janelle! Another beautiful project to add to my endless list 😂
Thanks so much Astra 🧡
How pretty is THAT!!!! 😍😍😍
Looks like another project I’ll have to start
I didn't know you had it as a pattern! Looks fun. I'm somewhat of an advanced knitter, but I know when I was starting videos like these were so helpful to understand the process, so this is great! 🤗
btw it's fun to see how differently people knit, even though I also knit continental the way I do knit and purl stitches looks so different from yours!
my mum was a left hander too and I think she would have been faster throwing with her left hand as you do!!
Hi Mis how are you I am from sri lanka now I am working in dubai I like to learn smoking patterns I am 57 years old women God bless you Mis 🙏
Yaaaaay finally 😭
I hope it’s worth the wait 🧡
This sweater is so beautiful. You are so talented. I like how your style is retro, but still modern.
Made the jumper really pretty, but did notice that if anyone makes the shape armhole longer eg 8 1/2, 9 inches, they need to add 12 or 24 stitches extra to the start of the sleeve, I suggest on the 2nd row of the 2 knit rows after you increase the stitches or the sleeve will be too small to fit into the jumper, but a lovely pattern and easy to follow
The Rosary jumper is beautiful! I saw a sweater like that about a year ago and fell in love with it! Only problem is I am a crocheter. Do you know how to crochet? I may be able to look at it and figure it out. It’s very pretty and looks great on you.
Hi Janelle, love this, so that ask for the pattern. We don't have needle 3.25 mm, but i wil use 3.5 mm. I always do a first time knit for using the right needle. I'm also lefthanded, but i knit right handed ( i was 4 years old when i started to knit). First i need to finish a coat ( also knitted) and the i wil start whit this project.
Greatings from Desiree 🇳🇱
I can see this is your favourite colour
Yep! My favourite colour to wear 😄
I think you’ll get so many views on this video! Thank you for making it! I love your sweater and want to make it too, but the yarn holds me up. I’m in the states. I could order your yarn but I’d rather purchase something I can see in person first. And 8-ply yarns are so tricky to match gauge to - each one seems to be its own weight and thickness. So to help trouble shooting - did you find this to knit up true to your bust measurement? Any gauge/fitting tips are welcome!!! You’re the best!
Bendigo woollen mills (the yarn I used) has a swatch card of all of their shades that you might find helpful (if they actually ship to the us that is!). I’ve made the pattern twice, each time a different size, and both times I’ve found it to end up slightly roomy in the bust area. There is also a tension guide on the pattern sheet that might be useful 😊
Hi, this is a lovely pattern, thank you! I am up to 12:51 mark of the video where you are shaping shoulders. However that step seems to be skipped in the tutorial. I am not exactly sure what to do. It just shows you having already completed the step. How do you cast off at the beginning of each row twice and then four more times? What do you do with the stitches in between? Do you keep the patt going? It doesn’t seem to be the case in the footage - I can just see a whole heap of stitches cast off but I am not sure how you arrived there. Do you cast of 7, then continue with part, then cast of another 7 on the next row, continue patt, then do it again 4 times? Doesnt seem right but I am not sure what else to do?
Thank you!
Same, the shoulders are a mystery to me as well. 😕
@@harribo7065 yes, but while you are decreasing how do you treat the remaining stitches? You need to do something with them to get to the next decrease, right? Do you simply knit them or try to keep the pattern going (which is hard as you suddenly don’t know where you are in the pattern because of the decrease…. ) That’s what I am unsure about.
I love this stitch pattern - do you know of any one of your followers who made a cardigan instead ??
Just change the number of cast on stitches. It's still worked flat so there's no change to the pattern
This is a great video Janelle. I printed this lovely pattern off some time ago with plans to make it, and once I have completed my man's jumper will do so. As for circular versus straight needle - I have used both, but personally prefer to knit on straight unless I am knitting a beanie. or perhaps the neck of a jumper. I find circular needles cumbersome and my stitches can get caught on the wire joins (often🤬). Worse still when the needle comes unscrewed from the wire, which has happened to me several times. I am forever tightening the needles on the wires. I have a whole set of expensive circular needles but with all the issues mentioned prefer straight needles hands down! 🥰🐾
Love the jumper. Will knit one myself. I’ve downloaded the pattern. Thank you. Love your color. Mind telling me what brand yarn and color you used? Thank you.
Thank you so much! It was a limited edition Bendigo Woollen Mills yarn, but I’ve linked a very similar shade in the video description.
Thank you for this tutorial but where could I find the pattern?
lovely jumper! but may I ask what nailpolish you use? :D
I know there are different ways to cast on stitches, maybe if you tried a different style of bind off you wouldn't have to worry about the tension so much.
I really want to try this but on the other hand, completing a knit beanie is often a big accomplishment for me, I have never made a sweater XD
Asking those who live in the US, which DK yarn did you knit this with? I'm trying to figure out what the best yarn to use would be. I do not want an acrylic DK.
Hi! Thanks for the detailed video and i love the jumper! Can i ask how tall you are? And you're wearing the second smallest size right? Im trying to figure out what size to make as a 153cm small person...
Does anyone have yarn recommendations for europe?? 👀
hi i have just subscribed and i can not get the pattern am i doing something wrong
What brand of wool do u use f jumper
I love Bendigo Woollen Mills and totally recommend if you are also in Australia 😊
Do you have the pattern for a 6 year old girl (sizes)
I love this jumper but can’t seem to get the pattern. I’ve subscribed but the pattern doesn’t arrive. Anyone else having this problem?
Sorry the pattern hasn’t landed in your inbox as it should! Please send me an email at hello@roseryapparel.com and I’ll send you a copy of it 😊
Is that a cotton yarn you're using?
Nope, wool 😊
I'm trying to download the pattern, but I subscribe according to the guidelines and it's never sent to me as a pattern😪
Sorry to hear that! If you send me an email at hello@roseryapparel.com I’ll send you a copy 😊
I've just email you :D Thanks!!@@RoseryApparel
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What am I doing wrong? But after every pattern row I lose 5 stitches 🤔
do you have the written pattern to look at? if you mess up one stitch the whole thing will be off
I lose and add stitches so often with this pattern, I find it so hard to concentrate haha
Is the jumper in the video the full 38cm before shaping armholes or a 30cm more cropped version?
This one is in between! Slightly longer than the 30cm
