Can’t wait to take a ride! Beautiful new cars! Love the design! Finally! Feels like the NYC subway has some cool variety again after the departure of the R32s and 42s.
I hope they work right without a glitch.
I really don’t see anything new other than the Shorter windows and new Front
They look exactly like the current rolling stock with smaller windows.
@@ninofromkitchennightmares1497 Me neither. The look like R143s with a slightly different front end and a new paint skin. Oh, and pathetically narrow side windows.
@@captainkeyboard1007 I just hope this train doesn’t end up becoming a lemon
Honestly it looks like an old train refurbished with a new face and new components.
That's what I'm also saying
@LeTERdu62 it’s literally a perfected version of the R160/R179
@LeTERdu62 ur opinion
Wasn't it supposed to be open walkways
@@Aidanvishsam This is an R211A which doesn’t have the open gangway accordion connectors. The R211Ts are the ones with the open gangway accordion connectors and they’ll come next year. However it’s only 20 cars of the R211T built for the base order.
At this point, you can say New York City shows its pride and joy with the new subway cars.
I love the slightly curved end bonnet and the LED "rollsign." It's almost like it pays homage to the old subway cars, and the massive storm door window on the front of the train is like the old slants!!!
@@MineGamerx-ij8bh wdym? Like a standard operating procedure?
I find the bonnet windows kinda weird....remind me or r110a bonnet windows
Also, i was kinda expecting the windows to be slightly longer on the sides with the LED destination sign...i was kinda expecting something like the 34th street prototype. But the first two doors that are blue on the A car 👌👌👌
@@yesemore1192 ahh I see what you mean, that would've been neat, I liked the larger black highlights around the window on the 34th street mock-up as well.
@@NYRailFan. mhm...Hopefully on camera when they come into service the subway line logo and destination LED isnt so pixelated or like swirly like r160s one.
Cool to see the whole process of getting the R211s to Coney Island Yard!
What I miss though are the US flags on the side of every car. 🇺🇲
They put them on right before they entered service
Once 4065-4069 arrive and are coupled to 4060-4064, they’ll probably go through simulated stop testing on the (A) line, or speed testing on the (Q) line!
they can do that with a single 5 car set because they did it with thr r179 maybe with the r211 too
That is more likely to be.
@@morganlimes and with the speed testing, we’ll be able to hear the propulsion!
Maybe both.
Slow down buddy put it in park, you speeding my friend
I wanna know how everyone finds out about these moves and service changes. It would be a dream to catch them all in person
They must know someone working in the Coney Island Yard
Its easy they follow dj on social media
@SNOWDROP10NYCTISALSOVERNONBLV same I don’t agree your comment
The last time those wheel bearings and brakes will be that quiet...
False. I hope you’re never on the tracks with that belief in mind.
Probably the last time to be seen without graffiti as well.
I wonder who will do the first mural on these new babies.....
@@stevenfetzer4911 it’s not the 80’s anymore it’s more likely to get dirty from the tunnels
@@trainsgod1042 when there’s more in service it’s more likely it will be vandalized because people still do graffiti on trains
Damm. Im going to miss sitting face foward! Those was the best seats on the r46’s
Me too. I hate how the new ones don’t have window seats
now we are only going to have the r68/a
The R46 and R68/A were the best subway cars in terms of seating.
Enjoy them while they last the R46 is gonna be here for like another 2 years
@@trainsgod1042 The last SMEE and orange seat/window seat train we'll have left is the R62/A or R68/A. I'm leaning over towards the R62/A's being the last of them left because they're not creaky and heavy and bouncy unlike the R68/A's. The R262 will replace the R62/A's, but the only image we have of it is a literal illustration. We don't even know who's going to produce the R262. So yeah, UNLESS some FastMagic™️ happens, the R62/A's will be the last left.
This may be the first time both the R68 and R211 train fleets meet together, but to be realistic about it, the real first time that both the R68 and R211 train fleets will meet together is when the R211 train fleets hit revenue service
The future is here!!!! The R211s have made it to NYC & ready to be in service 🙌
ua-cam.com/video/vI33StMSXZ4/v-deo.html
I love the way the front looks; would have liked to see each car with that mostly blue 'ribbon' that the first car has over each door! Very utilitarian design!
I think it was interesting around 15:57 when a member the crew looked out to see if the new cars had enough clearance to not hit the station platform on the curved approach! I assume the two diesels on the head en and the dummy car in between were just there for air braking.
Can't wait for this new train to enter service!
I know I hate the R46
Me too
@@jkm_the_man_99 same
@Jose Lorenzo Yeah
@@jkm_the_man_99so then why the hell are you riding it then if you hate it so much?
I like how those old diesel switcher locomotives have dual power in which they can run diesel power on a non electrified system and then connect to the third rail electrified system.
You'd think one of the newer work locomotives would deal with the delivery but I guess not
I was thinking the same thing.
Exactly I was baffled🙄
I thought it looked cool, the ancient train lugging the new one.
@@jeanhartely they probably wanted a contrast.
The newer ones don’t tow as much.
From this Chicago railfan. Congrats to NYC on your newest fleet of rail cars !!!
Super exciting stuff!! My outlook for the future: 4065-4069 are on their way as we speak. Once the two halves meet and they’ve been fitted with third rail shoes and American flags, they’ll (correct me if I’m wrong) probably run to Brighton on their own and test on (Q) Brighton Express.
Yeah, just like the lemon.
@@yesemore1192 R179 lemon 🍋 🍋 🍋 🍋 Those trains are nice but they broke down too much. Bombardier don't design their trains the proper way.
@@yesemore1192 literally no one calls the r179s lemons anymore
Fix current transit system, signal system, tracks, atms, metrocard reading machines... then bring new toys!
These new train cars ARE part of fixing the system. They’ll be used for the 8th Avenue Line CBTC, since the MTA desires to test out the CBTC system on line using factory fresh cars.
They have to improve the lines also, new trains won't make big improvements until you improve the rails as well.
Well the new trains will work with advanced signalling, which is being installed on some subway lines currently.
The best moment to happen is at the beginning when the r211 is revealed to the people of NYC.
Its also very interesting the r211. Its the first official subway car type in NYC with doors 58 inches.(besides the prototype NTT trains.) Also I was expecting the windows to be slightly longer, just like the desplay in 34th Street. Windows look like ancient r32 windows. :T
@Amir the Cultivated Commuter Yeah. It's sad how Bombardier doest get much attention from NYC...wonder why 🤔
@@yesemore1192 yep
Lol
@@yesemore1192 R179s lemon incidents
@@yesemore1192 Because they failed with the R179s
Some people really be hating on a train that hasn't even hit service yet its ridiculous.
Lol ikr, they're only salty because it's getting rid of their old "nostalgic" subway cars. Like cmon, if y'all want better service then do what's best for the MTA and the city. Not for just the foamers.
@@Aatrixian But the R32s and R46s have been fine-performing trains and would perform even better under a full overhaul. Obviously these cars can't run forever like we would like to fantasise but I feel that at least the lifespan of the R32s was cut short. They were supposed to be running through 2022. Also back in 2008, they were originally supposed to completely overhaul them like they did in the '80s in order to make them last until 2038 but decided to buy the R179 as a sixty foot car instead of the original seventy-five foot plan so that it could replace the R32.
@@blakemcnamara9105 Correction: the R32 and R46 cars are worst performing cars.
Also complete overhaul of old non-CBTC compatible cars (which was not considered in 2008) is totally expensive compared to buying new train cars, considering that every other transit system is also upgrading their old fleet by buying new train cars. If the nations capital of Washington DC can procure 748 new NTT train cars (which actually look like the NYC R160s) to replace over half of its fleet, then NYC has no problems ordering 1100+ cars to replace over 1/6th of the entire fleet.
@@Aatrixian I have a feeling that some folks don’t even ride the subway regularly or AT ALL.
@@blakemcnamara9105 I hate these new cars. They are not worthy of being called "subway cars". But I felt the same way when I was a kid and the R32's first came into service. Back then I hated the R32's. They were too new and too bright, shiny, clean and quiet for me. In those days I only wanted to see and/or ride on older cars like the R1's, through R16's, Low-V's and BMT D Type (Triplex) cars running. It took a few decades but I eventually came to accept the R32's and eventually I came around to liking them. These days they are among my favorites. I highly respect the R32. Perhaps the same will follow with these R211's. Who knows, over the next two or three decades I may actually come to like the R211's.
Case and point. I already like the R160s even though I despised them when they first hit the rails.
I wonder who's going to be the first homeless person to sleep on one 🤣
Lol
If you see a homeless person on the open gangway cars, DO NOT GET INTO THE TRAIN, you’ll have to wait for the next one to come
@@dukbcyes9651
That’s why I don’t like open gangway. You are trapped with a bad car in all cars. Too bad open gangways can’t just have a door still in between.

@@42luke93 best case scenario you’re near the second set
those windows look pretty tiny! cool looking cars tho. im glad they brought back the rollsigns that show line color.
Those aren’t rollsigns. Those are LED milticolor displays.

@@JohnR-wf2hh The R142 and R143 were the first rolling stock to omit the rolling end signs and destination side signs.
The window on the r211 looks similar to the r32.

What about the R42, R62/A, and R68/A
@@GSU_Panther_Nation The front reminds me of the slant but I thought it was going to be narrow
@@GSU_Panther_Nation
It’s similar for being narrow.
6:21 I did expect the side windows to be narrow but jeez they are way more narrower than expected
Yeah sadly that is because they make the doors bigger which takes away more seats. Now instead of 3 seats it’s 2 seats from the door to the first pole probably. The way these doors keep getting bigger, seating one day will just be for the elderly and disabled..
@@42luke93 im glad that it’s more accessible to all types of people
Want too ride these train so much!!!
What is that tube running through the new cars between the locomotives? Is that the brake line for the locomotive in the back?
Since they were checking the gauging to make sure it fit every where and the car floors lined up with the station platforms, I was guessing it was where they filled water barrels in the cars to simulate the weight of some passengers aboard? Just my guessing...
I think your right
Amazing video how they got in front of the train along the way. 👍
16:41-1755 there’s some nice shots of the Accessibility of the new cars with the raised platform, sad that the w/c area isn’t painted Blue (international colour for accessibility symbols)

Do these cars have a walk-thru doorless passageway between cars, as in the prototype? It looks like the width of the opening on the ends is not that wide.
Not these cars. Those open gangway trains will be coming in later.
New trains coming to LA Metro will be open gangway.

Question: So if this set will be testing on the A/C lines then why was it ship to Coney Island Yard and not Pitkin Yard?
It's gonna be at Coney Island Yard for 3 weeks before it tests on the lines that run of that yard.
I think they’re going to be undergoing testing and other maintenance at CI.
It goes through first stages of inspection first at Coney Island yard
@@JohnR-wf2hh Correct. The biggest overhaul shop around is there.
South Brooklyn Terminal is very convenient and leads to the West End Line and leads to Coney Island Yard. Coney Island Yard has a large subway car repair shop. It is huge. It is one of the two shops for overhauls and major repair jobs on subway cars. Pitkin Yard only has a smaller shop for minor maintenance jobs and leads to the Pitkin Avenue Line without any connections to other railroad lines.
It pretty! NYC please keep them clean!🧼🧽
This is New York City we’re talking about. We can’t even keep our grass maintained, our highways/roads smooth, and our schools better. What makes you think we can keep our Subways clean 🤣
And I ain’t even mentioned the rats and the homeless…
The R211 train may be in operation as soon as next year after it completes a battery of tests and passes them.
Hello Everyone! The R211 will go to the A and C lines. :)
I wish the outside looked as futuristic as the inside
Snappy looking!
I grew up in this area of Brooklyn. I used to frequently take the subway stop at 55th street and get off at 62nd street to take B9 bus to FDR high school. It's been nearly a decade since I've been back to Brooklyn, time really flew by, and I'm so happy to see these subway stops once again.
I don't live in NYC I live on the West coast in the Golden State of California but I'm a rail fan and that's a very nice looking subway train. Too bad we don't have them in Los Angeles, CA
We're also getting new trains here in LA in about 2years. The Breda cars introduced in 1993 when the subway lines started are being retired.
Finally, New York is getting new subway cars, and everyone agrees it’s about time!
R211 to R68: we coming to end ya soon ;)
R68: *tries to show off its speed and goes faster than the R211*
Ooo! I can’t wait to see these in person :)
ua-cam.com/video/vI33StMSXZ4/v-deo.html
beautiful ....the delorean train
Homeless gonna love their new ride 🔥🔥
Last time I was in that initial yard, I rode in and out on a D-Type, there were a few decrepit Q-Cars on another track and the Twin Towers were in the background!!
I would want to work for the mta just to go on all lines lol
Just grow up and ride them all on a single fare in one day.
Soon after, the NY Subway R262 and the WMATA 8K railcars are expected to follow suit with this new design
what is the green plastic used for?
It's tape and I think it's used for keeping the R211 cars in good shape so the parts won't fall apart, that's my opinion but I think that's what they do.
Maybe one day some R211 models will make it to Los Angeles for the Los Angeles Metro Rail Red and Purple lines. We do have a subway train in Los Angeles but not as big as you guys in New York City of course. We only have 2 rail lines.
The R211s were custom ordered for the NYC Subway. Each rail system is different so if LA wants new subway cars, they will have to get brand new cars that are customized to their specifications.
It says 4K60 in the title, but the video is still in 360p?
yay the r211 is here
Very cool train I’m excited for it and I think it’s gonna be speed tested on the sea beach express track
Ive seen you somewhere before
@@RookCooks idk Have you?
I remember a train like this used on a shuttle line from Prospect park back in the '40s.
I remember the D-type cars, numbered in the 6000 series had steel passageways.
Nice R211 DJ
16:45 Oh wow that’s a tight one
That lookss dangerous.
HOLD UP! What about the open gangways in between the cars??
Before they tore up the tracks down McDonald Ave years ago, they used to deliver new trains to Coney Island yard that way. Now they have to go down the West End El. I didn't know the El could handle the weight of those diesel loco's though.
Looks like the R211 don't yet have their 3rd rail shoes.
The contact shoes and other parts will be assembled at Coney Island Shop.

Wtf are you talking about xD
My favorite mall is in that area!! The first place!!

Also, wonder if the new cars will still use Carrier/Carlyle air conditioner compressors....
When do the open gangway models come in?
I like how fairly similar these look head on to the London Underground S7 & S8 stock
I believe that the R-211 train will be tested on all B-Division lines through the duration of the one-year period.
R211T One of my favorite
Great and Strong!!!👏
Also new test ride of the first New R211 Subway car! 😀
Hooray!!!!
When the R211's start testing?
For all the rail fans please get last videos of the R46 it will be history in the future bothers 😀
My question is since this unit has five cars, are they able to separate them for maintenance and repair or are the shops made to service it whole?
This train looks cool but I feel nostalgic for the R46s
Take pictures before it's too late
The R-46 to today's kids is like what the R-9s were for me as a kid. But the R-9 designs seemed much more old fashioned compared to the R-32s to 46s in the 70s, it was hard to imagine a time when they ever looked modern and new. The R-46 design by contrast still seems to reflect a modern futuristic feel.
@@Chris-zs5qb thanks!
What yard was the first place ?
That’s the Bush Terminal Yard of the South Brooklyn Railway.

@@AaronKungFaux Thanks!
YESSIR IT'S COMING
They look like R160’s XD

Could any of the resident Americans explain why the NYC Subway hasn't used the opportunity of a brand new class of trains to introduce "walk through" car ends as is becoming increasingly the fashion everywhere else?
Even in the cramped London Underground with tight curves and ridiculously tight grades, we have the S Stock and the NTFL which will also incorporate them.
They add a lot of capacity and the functionality of being able to board wherever and walk through the train to find a seat or be near the stairs when you get off the train is a huge benefit.
There will be 20 open gangway cars in the 535-car base order, with the potential for the option order sets (which would mostly go to the N and Q), to have open gangway trains.
I thought the new cars were going to connect seamlessly, so you could walk between cars like in Toronto.
Those aren’t built and delivered yet. These are closed ended trains to expedite building and delivery of them.
Not all of the R211 cars will have gangways. For New York City Transit, this fixture will be new to it. The gangway is used on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), the Montreal Metro, and other rapid transit railroads in the world.
How come this video is only in 360p?
Now that they're here..they get a shipment of 211s daily....
Unfortunately these 10 cars will be the only ones they’ll get for the year. Next year they’ll run in passenger service for 30 days as a test, before they officially enter service. From there, more cars will come in.
4065-4069 just arrived! Do you know when this train is gonna be testing?
Why do they have to show this train at all these different stations? Isn't just showing it at 1 good enough?
So is the route sum'm like Bush Term -> 39th St. Yard -> D Line -> Coney?
2:14 to anyone who has done the SBK move before; When did they install that recessed derailer (in that yellow pit.)? 🤔
Our new orange and red line trains here in Boston are the best looking trains and our green line those trains look very new york
I wonder how's the lady announcement sounds like? when new train show up in summer 2022.

They’re not gonna sound like M8s. These have Alstom Optonix propulsion which the M8s do not have. Also Lirr M8s?!!! Lirr never ran any M8s, only M7s and M9s!
It looked like at that first express stop that the door sills were riding above the platform edge, on the other stations it looked like there was a small gap. Platform shaving needed?
