I am about the make a tote bag as a gift, and I want to put a zip in the lining with the pocket, and I have watched numerous tutorials on how to do that. Since watching this tutorial on getting a zip to sit nice and straight, I feel much more confident to tackle the first time of putting in a zip now!! Thankyou SO very much for making it look so easy, and showing the pitfalls of using pins. I might use the double sided 1/4" tape as I have some, for this very first zip pocket. Great tutorial. Zippers can be scary! Can you share your stitch length and width?
Match your stitch length to the fabric you are working with - so for example on quilt cotton I would use a stitch length of maybe 2.7, but if using vinyl I would use a longer stitch length eg 3 to 3.5

I wish their was a tut for the Flip Clutch Wallet. I love that wallet, I just have a few little problems with it & having a tut would be so nice. It’s literally the perfect wallet for people who don’t want to pack a bag with them.

@@SpencerOgg LOL oh I did the last time I made it. I’m making it again for my mom & so far it’s coming together very smoothly. Lot easier then last time (last time I didn’t have to many problems either, the pattern is very well written, it was just more lack of confidence in myself then anything). I did somehow mess up the 2 note pockets. Not sure how I did that but instead of having 2 note pockets, I have 4 small deep pockets (I stitched down the center of the CC slots when I was attaching it to the CC Backing). I didn’t realize it until I got all the way done & don’t want to rip it ALL out 😂

I like the fact that your Janome zipper foot has a hole in the middle of the foot. I have a Bernina, and my zipper foot doesn't have a hole - I have to move the needle to the right or left.
They are better with the hole in the middle, it grips the fabric better and makes it more stable. Do check tho, I think Bernina may do one as an extra now.

Hello & HELP... PLEASE 🤗 I've been learning bag making. I was seeing straight to the end of the zip n fabric as as you've done here. And always have an issue with the top edge of the bag/ zip having a bit of pucker( ?) I guess you'd call it. The zip doesn't come out of fabric completely. So Doing Bit of research I see some stopping approx 1 inch freon ends of fabric. This seems to leave a bit of questioning. Do you have a video that covers this. I want to learn correctly and not waste fabric etc.(no budget for this!) Plus it's very VERY frustrating, not knowing the right way.
It all depends on the type of bag or pouch you are making as to where and how to finish your zip. Have you tried adding zip tabs? The best thing to do is follow a couple of patterns to find the best way. You are welcome to join my sewing group to discuss: facebook.com/groups/170115107145604/

What size zipper do you recommend 3 or 5 wide
This works the same for any size of zipper. I tend to use a number 3 zip for pockets inside, but a number 5 for the outer of a bag. If it's smaller item such as a wallet I'd probably stick with a number 3 for the outer though to keep the bulk down
