    You know what I like about your channel? Besides, everything, I love the cooking and recipes (you cook everything outside?), the yummy food dance, the bike trails, sweet ole Maggie, your dad jokes, and how relaxed you both are about your travels. Oh, did I mention Maggie and the cooking? Lol yeah 😁😎

    The beaches brought back sweet memories of my wife and my walks on various beaches. She loved the beach and I loved seeing her joy at her first sight of the waves when we’d arrive. She walk, pick up a shell, carry it for a while, put it down and pick up another. We could walk for hours and come back with one shell. She was like a little kid at Christmas when we explored Oregon tidal pools for starfish. I still have those shells...... and the memories. ❤️

    I was cracking up about your Beverly Hillbillies comments. That Pizza looked delicious. The positives of taking a dog with you far outweigh the negative! I've been wanting to hear more of your music, Owen, and I'm pretty sure that was your song about boats in the water sails in the sky. I liked it. Thanks for the video and safe travels.

    Hubby and I stayed in St. Augustine and Palm Coast about 4 years ago and loved it. We weren't camping that trip, but we did love running up and down the coast and enjoying how beautiful it was. It was February and in the 40s, but us Mainers were okay. We loved the Castillo de San Marcos and I'm a huge history buff and Hubby loved the brewery. He loved it so much he drank my samples also. :) We just really enjoyed it and can't wait to do it when we are on the road finally! Thanks for sharing!

    Hey Lynn and Owen. Becky and I really enjoy your channel. We spend +/- 90 nights a year in our Newmar Canyon Star and just got back home last week to North Carolina from our winter Florida trip. When headed back north, we always visit St. Augustine. We love the history and restaurants. This trip we also visited Anastasia State Park, beautiful beaches and park. We camped at Compass RV Park. Pricy and not our favorite but close to I-95 for the journey north. Also on this trip, one of our stops was Cedar Key, after watching your video. We’re now planning our spring, summer, and fall journeys. Safe travels, Harold & Becky.

      We stopped by Cedar Key this year but did not stay there, the bugs were so bad we just couldn’t make ourselves fight that fight. It sounds like we may have crossed paths as we went to the same places. Have fun planning your next adventure.

    Love that you bring your dog. We have a Cavalier and she goes everywhere with us now, so we know all of the dog friendly hotels. By next year she and our cat are going to be going with us everywhere. St. Augustine is a very dog friendly town. Lots of restaurants have patios and allow dogs. Even the tram train allows dogs! We used to go twice a year when we lived in Charleston. We love the Columbia restaurant.Flagler College is a must do tour too. There is also a wonderful Cuban bakery there.

    I drove thru there looking at the grounds a couple Saturdays or Sundays ago. I think i remember seeing a van like yours, but then again I'm sure there are a lot of those out there. I live in C. FL, St. Augustine FL is one of my favorite get-a-way places, close enough to home yet far away enough to know you are away. Leaving Mattie in the van is not a problem with the monitor and the auto roof fan that closes when it rains that provides good air flow. Thank you for sharing.

    We live in Florida and had to make reservations 9 months in advance for Anastasia. Sounds like you’re just driving there from Tomoka and expect to find an open sight??? Hard to believe! Anastasia camping is very nice because the beach is right there. One thing I didn’t like was the big drop off from the paved road into our site. The ground should have been graded better and more level with the road!

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому +1

      We actually make the Anastasia reservations 2 months before. Sorry if it sounded misleading, that was not intended. We didn’t notice a drop off at our site. Thanks for sharing with your comment.

    • @rocket7824
      @rocket7824 4 роки тому

      VAN TREKKING lifestyle even though it’s a bit embarrassing, I’ll say exactly how bad the drop off was...we have a 30 ft Class C on the Ford E-450 Super Duty chassis. There was such an immediate height difference that we bottomed out on the gray tank pipe just before it intersects with the release valve. Sounded like an explosion! I managed to patch the half inch gap in the cracked pipe with duct tape bringing the leak rate down to a drop every 2 seconds. I admit that I didn’t get out and survey the site first. If I had, I would have realized that it required a slow, 45 degree angle backing off the asphalt road. One more lesson learned.

    Hi Owen , I love watching you guys . I live in New Hampshire in the Mt Washington Valley. I was wonder how hard it is to leave the campground after your all hooked up to sewer and water . I’m guessing you just unhook everything. Maybe it’s a stupid question. Does it take long ? I’m trying to talk my husband into getting a van and hitting the road. He’s 78 still working , self employed plumber. He just looks at me . I keep playing your videos , haha maybe it will work. Wish me luck 😬

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому +2

      That is not a stupid question at all. When we camp somewhere the only thing we hookup is the power. We hook up to the water and sewer as we need to which is usually the day we leave. So it is super easy to disconnect and spend time outside the park. We usually leave our chairs and rugs out so people will know the space is occupied. Good luck on convincing your husband, of course we think you would love it. Thanks for the question.

    I just discovered y’all’s channel. We’ve enjoyed this video and one other. It was the one about how to reserve a site in the Florida State Park system. We are hoping to spend some time there in January February & March. But I think I’m too late for 2022 booking. Guess I’ll be trying for 2023 when that window opens. Are they still using Reserve America?

      Glad you to hear the videos are useful. You are not too late to book in 2022, but you’ll have to play the cancellation game. Around a month before you want to leave start looking for cancellations at the spots you want to go. We never make reservations more than 2-3 weeks out, even in Florida. You may have to move more often than you want but you should be able to find spots even though it is frustrating at times. And yes, they’ve changed their reservation away from Reserve America but at first glance it looks like the new system has all the same functionality.

    We have been following you for a little while. On the fence about purchasing a Travato. One concern is leaving our pup while we take a tour or visit a site that doesn't allow dogs. Could you please tell us how you manage that with the van - Do you leave the generator running to cool the van while you are gone? Does the generator go on and off or run continuously? Would love to hear how you do this. Thank you!

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому

      This is what we do for Maggie. If it’s below 75 we will turn on the max fan and open a couple of windows just a little for ventilation, and that keeps it pretty cool. If it’s above 75 we will turn on the generator and the air conditioner, the generator does not turn off and uses gas from the vans tank down to 1/4 of a tank, so make sure you have plenty of gas. Also the generator is very loud so we try to park where it’s not to obtrusive. It also depends on how long you are going to be gone and how high temperature going to be. We also have a pet monitor that will send us a message when the van gets above a certain temperature for longer trips than just going into the store. It is listed on our Amazon page www.amazon.com/shop/VanTrekkingLifestyle. We never go on day long trip that we would not be able to get back to the van if we needed to. It is also a big concern for us.

    So many problems taking a dog with you:
    ~ Having to take the dog out in the rain and cold.
    ~ Pet hair everywhere.
    ~ Chance of dog escaping.
    ~ Expensive food.
    ~ Dealing with pet health.
    ~ Worries about leaving them in the van alone.
    ~ Temperature issues.
    ~ Dogs not allowed in many areas.
    Only one advantage:
    ~ Eternal love.

      That was just a one time thing, we went back this year and did not experience a smell at all. It is a great park.

    I just discovered your channel. We just moved to florida and want to RV to St Augustine. I could not hear the location with the van door closing of the RV parking lot. Could you please pass that address on again. Your video was great and packed with lots of helpful information. Have a Blessed Day.

    Just wondering how far in advance you had to make reservations for these Florida State Parks.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому +2

      We usually make reservations 2 to 3 weeks out, when we can. Doing it that way you are limited to the places you can get into and the length of time you can stay. We have booked sites a week out which seems like we are utilizing other peoples cancellation. Have you watched how we use the Reserve America website to make reservations? Here’s the link in case you have not seen it. ua-cam.com/video/0p9JKijVoQ0/v-deo.html. I hope this helps

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому

      We usually make them 2-3 weeks out. Sometimes we make them a week out in hopes we can pick up some cancellations. Just remember by waiting you may not get to stay where you want for as long as you want. Here’s a link to the video we did on using Reserve America in case you didn’t see it. ua-cam.com/video/0p9JKijVoQ0/v-deo.html. Thanks so much for watching.

    What is the senior pass? Is it for each state or United States wise? And how
    Old do you have to be for that?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому +1

      The senior pass is for National Parks and since the fort is a national monument it also work for that. You can buy a lifetime pass when you turn 62 for $82. You can also purchase a yearly pass before you turn 62 for $20. We love to visit Nationals Parks so we feel it is well worth the money. You only need one per family. You can also purchase State Park passes which is good for each state and are different prices. Since we usually camp at State Parks there is usually not a entrance fee so we have not purchase one of those. Thanks for the question.

    How early did you have to get a spot at the park

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому

      It was about 3 weeks out, we probably got lucky and got someone’s cancellation. It is a hard park to get into. If you are a planner it’s always good to book a long time in advance. But if you are like we are we just keep checking hoping for a cancellation. Thank you for the question.

    Traveling like that very expensive?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  3 роки тому +1

      It depends. Most state parks cost between 25-40 per night. We usually spend 900-1200 per month on these kinds of trips on just the camping. But we spend less than when we’re home overall because we cook out a lot and are not spending money on projects and things for the house. If you plan and do it right you can spend just about what you spend at home and be comfortable. Hope that helps.

    NO, Stay home! I have lived in St. Augustine for 48yrs & it is not a quiet beach town anymore. This is like Disney World with jammed roads, too many bars & packed beaches. We can't get on the beach anymore because the few parking lots are stuffed with cars. Rents are over $1,500/month. Salaries are low and jobs pay 1960s salaries. It makes the locals so sad to see the decline.
