      Really? You've struggled finding info on YT? Dave Weckl's been teaching this for years. Although this guy's video is very informative too.

    Love the videos. I would love for you to talk about traditional snare angle more. I go back and forth from traditional to match. Would love to know the healthiest way to go about it!!!!!

    So glad I found this video. I just started and feel some pain on the tops of my right hand. Yes I’m right hand dominant. Now I’m more aware of checking the proper mechanics. Also my hands are small. I use 5 A sticks. I wonder if they are too heavy for me. Or I may need to build more strength for the hand. Thank you.

    Great stuff! I'd like you to elaborate a bit more about your comment regarding the hands hitting the thighs when playing a rimshot or even a simple back beat. I have this problem but not sure how to fix it. I have my snare sitting flat at no angle and I've been sitting higher to accommodate my back and leg range of motion.

      Neal, good comment and observation. That happens to me too... I do have Big thighs (unfortunately), and at 69 yo, I also have spinal issues and arthritis which limits my mobilities. I returned to playing after 51 Years. My wife Xmas gifted me a Gammon (Cheapo) Kit in 2018, and I finally re-commenced playing along to My Music and few months later. No Gigs , of course, just for pleasure in retirement. I've been experimenting with Throne Heights - and Throne Types - for months now. I have a 1 inch shorter right leg, resulting from a fractured Femur in 1966 (15 years old at the time - HS Football). That leg length discrepancy hampers me to be able to play comfortably - always seeking that "Sweet Spot" for a good position. Brandon is describing physicality of playing drums very well. Posture is sooo important. Look at Buddy Rich videos. Look at his horrible posture. Some say, that scoliosis (hump / crooked spine) actually contributed to his fatal Heart attack (he had one while Playing in a Show and kept playing the Solo !!!!).

      @@Chiroman527 check out Todd Sucherman Sounds and Choices on Drumeo where he talks about his body position in relation to his kit. He sits high and his snare is surprisingly high and I've been having some success experimenting with that. But it does take some time to get comfortable so be patient.

    Lots of helpful suggestions on ergonomics- can you do one for traditional grip players? Thanks!

    Are there issues with torso rotation? Always kind of wonder with bigger kits especially two floor toms if excess torso rotation can cause back strain.

    Back in the 90s when there was a lot of road gigs available, we were on the road a lot. Saturday night after the gig or Sunday was travel day. I drove the bus most times. My left arm and shoulder would be killing me. This went on for awhile. I started testing my arm position to find a comfortable placement where it was going to bother me. Eventually, I figured out what the cause of the problem was. Snare too low and thrown too high. I reset the whole kit, snare, Tom's, cymbals, throne. The pain disappeared and I actually played better. But mostly, I was happy that the pain was gone, because it was bloody painful and no escape.

    I just wanted to know what the average height of a snare would be for a 6 ft tall dude you know without having to go get a Dr.'s degree in biology can you tell me where on the video it just says how many inches a average

    • @brandondrummechanics
      @brandondrummechanics  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks Steven. Unfortunately, it would be difficult for me to share something like that. Each one of us have different proportions that makes it impossible to give an average. However, this video is intended to give you an assessment tool, so you can figure out the perfect snare height. Personally, I use a measuring tape to figure out how high to adjust the snare each time without having to go through all the set up. For me, the rim of the snare drum closest to me is 27 inches.

      @kinserjosh 8 місяців тому

      Same here. I'm 6' 2". I measure the snare drum each gig. Mine is at 26.75 inches at the top rim to the floor.

      Play in mid range positions of your anatomy where you have a 90° strike zone from where your stick is the surface of the drum.

    Informative but at too much technical details, like Anatomy 101 lecture. Different people cover the same subject differently. No offence intended. I am the get-to-the-points type.
