Devastated by this morning’s news of Sinead’s passing and this song hits even harder now. She seemed like such a deep, intelligent, warm human being who was too sensitive for this world. Or maybe the world was just too hardened to appreciate her pure honesty and artistry. I hope she is at peace wherever she is now, and is reunited with her boy ❤

This is one of her most underrated songs, along with take me to church, these should have been much bigger instead of being ignored by the industry.

In case anyone is wondering, she said in an interview the 8 good reasons to stick around were the eyes of her 4 children. With the loss of her son, the 8 were reduced to 6 and it was just too much to bear. 💔

It's been several months she's gone, and I'm still so sad. There's so much pain through all her carrier, bullies and morons used to hate her for stuff they didn't even understand, stuff she said when she was a young angry woman. Some people aren't even able to let it go and see the beauty of such artists as Sinead O' Connor.

I love this song. She gets on the bus and first she's depressed and then she looks around at the people and looks at the beautiful world and she starts thinking about what life is and what she values out of life. She starts counting the things she is sticking around for and then she comes up with nine. She knows she is different than most people but she doesn't care because she loves people and she knows she has a lot to offer. I love you Sinead! You are truly a beautiful singer and you are beautiful on the inside too!

I love this woman..since her first album..And i love is strangeness.. This song talks to me, since i do also feel that i'm from a different time and space, and feel uncomfortable in this world, like a stranger, since my childhood..and now that i'm retired, i live almost recluse. I didn't have 8 reasons, but just one, not to give up, never.

Oh my gosh, that's exactly what I thought just now watching it for easily the 200th time over the past 2 years. I realized that she doesn't actually smile in the video until the girls come over to her...it's the human contact that makes the difference, so that even when they leave, her character here is at peace. I love this video; I love this song.

I'm obsessed with this song! I don't think I've ever heard a song that I can relate to more. Sinead is too intelligent, hyper aware of what's wrong with the world. She's a brilliant philosopher. Her views on religion are spot on. I'm glad to see her looking happy and healthy again!

That's how many people were on the bus and it restored her hope in humanity. She realized that every person on that bus needed her and she could help them in some way and for that moment, she felt happy.
I suspect when she wrote the song the 8 good reasons were her 4 children and other important people in her life. But that is interesting observation and probably done purposefully.

I mean, have you listened to Troubles of the World?.it's her last song released in 2020 and basically says that she is done with the troubles of the world and wants to be with god. This coupled with her son's passing in 2021 was enough for her I think.

Oh, man...it feels SO GOOD to see her smile, and hear her embracing whatever good is left in this crazy world. I've been inspired by her courage to use her voice and her celebrity to speak out against her abusers (priests/pope and everyone who turned a blind eye to the sexual, mental, spiritual, social, abuse that was/is perpetrated by clergy, and other corrupt authority figures) and to speak out against systemic racism and the abuse of People of Color by law enforcement officers all over the world. She's been mistreated, gaslit, alienated, misrepresented, targeted, and been subjected to terrible treatment by her own family. She is strong, and she has assumed the role of advocate and ally to all who are victims of injustice. She's a true warrior out in the world defending you, me, POC, Herself, and every marginalized person, who struggles to find people who will stand with them through the uncertain times, even when it doesn't seem safe, or if you have been ostracized by your community.

You just said it all,in a way the vast majority of us ,wouldnt have the diction, of forethought to say.Today her demons finally got to her,so hopefully her struggle to be heard will be remembered, as she had the courage to say what no one else dared to.We all know its the truth now,but at the time she was utterly destroyed for her comments.I have just put up on facebook "she moved through the fair",and" 8 good reasons".What struck me was, she flashed that angelic smile at the very end of both songs,which just indicated to me she was only ever truly happy singing...RIP.
Thank you for these words. As others pointed out you expressed it perfectly. A friend sent me this video, I didn't even know the song but collected so much over the years. I've been happy to tell folks I've looked up to her since album one, 1987, prior to the sensation of the second album. It was strange to watch everyone change with that second album. People really did notice her and kept noticing. Wow.
I don't know what it is, the lyrics in this song are pretty optimistic, but when I listen to the beautiful song it brings tears to my eyes.
That's the beauty of fine art. Some songs make me sad, yet I go out of my way to listen to them because they say something to me. Artists like The Smiths, Queen, The Smashing Pumpkins, Blind Melon. I'm left feeling sad. But I go back for more.
