I have to respect how well-made this is despite being made for April Fool's, feels like the plot of some 80s horror movie but presented in analog horror. Something I caught onto during the research logs by Dr. Chandra was that when the snow containing the organisms melted into water, they were still present within the water, which explains the post-credit scene, the snow melted and evaporated, only to fall back down in a new town, repeating the deadly cycle. There's also the reference of the UHF waves being used by the news stations being relegated to only be used for emergency broadcasts, meaning that when the government is trying to warn the public through those broadcasts, the organisms are able to corrupt them and travel through them, making things a bit more terrifying and removing any semblance of safety.
It's like that SCP that is basically hostile water that turns regular water into more of itself. If it breached containment, it would get into the water cycle and turn _all_ water _everywhere_ into more of itself, destroying the world.
It’s a minor detail, but it’s so cool how Winter of ‘83 deals with blood / corpses. Usually, cold / winter ish conditions are expected to preserve the body and slow down rot, but it seems like the snow-organism has the OPPOSITE effect; some scenes including a dead body (like 1:12:09) show the skeleton or blood or just pieces, implying the person was harmed quickly And that’s another thing- the juxtaposition of the bodies on the snow. I believe there was a body within a snowman at some point, but quite a few are seen above the snow during active and heavy snowstorms. It works against nature; these bodies aren’t waiting until spring to be found, and instead act like a lure to confused civilians passing by (to the benefit of the organism) ! So cool
My mind immediately went to the thought that they got riddled with frostbite and when Denby pulled him out of the snow, he also ripped off his legs, albeit without any pain because they were frostbitten and numb.
My mind went to that scene in Snowpiercer where they stick a dude's arm outside of a hole in the train and it straight up freezes so hard that it snaps off

Just a quick heads up for anybody who's going to Linkara's channel expecting more analog horror: he doesn't normally do analog horror. Linkara is a comic book reviewer (and has been around since pre 2010 if memory serves) and he only really does things like this particular series for April Fool's Day videos. It's usually just a thing he does that is different from his normal set up and the only other April Fool's Day video I remember watching is one where he parody's Welcome to Night Vale. Other than that, he's a pretty decent story teller and there's at least one video series that goes over the story that crops up in the background of his over all review series. He also doesn't have a good sense of humor towards OneyNG taking affectionate jabs at him.
You know you made something good that just hearing “hey can help me with this.” can make your heart just drop. I love suspense and creepiness over scares any day. Scares get you in the moment but creepiness- that keeps you up at night.
The thing is most modern horror, especially horror games, rely on startling players with jumpscares rather than creating actually fear, jumpscares aren’t bad but their best done when put at the end of a long drawn out(but not too drawn out) sequence of tension building.
It's nice to have an analog horror that doesn't rely on distorted faces for the creep factor. The "can you help me with this?" was so unsettling in a way that creepy faces just aren't.
Honestly, I’m not surprised by how well done this was once I found out that Scott and Lani from TeamFourStar were involved. I knew I recognized their voices and sure enough, they were in the credits. I should’ve know they would be involved the moment I heard Linkara lol
the holy trinity “Can I have a cigarette?” (Mag001 Anglerfish) “Hey! Who turned out the lights?” (Doctor Who I forgot the episode) “Hey, can you help me with this?” (this)
@@Aperson11028basically a monster that used a human like puppet to lure people into dark alleys and then did something(?) to them. I never got to the end of Magnus Archives though. The creature made the person puppet say “can I have a cigarette?” When it was luring someone in. They called it the angler fish because it used a puppet as a lure like an angler fish uses its light.
I like it’s silly beginning, but it is such an incredibly unique concept that you just can’t look away. The snowman just needed some help lol, he seems pretty grateful whenever you help him out.
No, they used to shut down the TV stations at 12 am, and would play the national anthem. Then it would shut off until the morning when the news came on. Most smaller towns had their own broadcasting tower. Plus many people in that town would run their own "access channel" shows. i.e Wayne's world (Wayne and garths, show) was an access channel, show.
This may be one of my favorite analog horrors. It's easy to follow, creepy when it needs to be, and slow when it needs to be. It doesn't drag, and has appropriately timed scares. Even the just audio bits let my mind run rampant with what they're seeing. Everything you need to know is in the movie, and it makes sense. It's great honestly. And while it isn't as scary as the others, the last one did freak me out for a bit.
Dude you just blew my mind for years Lincara has been known only for funny comic reviews I never knew he did analog horror! This just shows that the dude has a wide range of talents!

A lot of John Carpenter's The Thing(based on The Thing from Another World which is based on the short story Who Goes There) in this analog horror what with the voice and body mimics. Hilarious that they used a snowman as the monster 😂. Good stuff.
Hey Peter, "can you help me with this?" On a side note, I think it's a hilarious line to say before killing 𝕤𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕠𝕟𝕖 Also, the ending was sad. They killed my boy, Carl Denby
Love the fact the bacteria never really speaks but only says “hey can you help me with this?” And “thanks bud”, but at the end of the final video of the series it actually says something with the text to speech voice it had instead of the stolen ones.
Huh, haven't heard the name Linkara in a while. I also didnt expect this to be a creation of theirs, nice. Whenever I investigate what the internet considers to be amongst the top analog horror, Winter of '83 often comes up. Glad to see you covering it! Edited for spelling.
I like this one actually bothered to explain the glitchy videos. In basically any other analog horror random shows will randomly cut out to 'spoiler' stuff and its never explained at all.
This video is something, if not cursed. The part where it froze when she said "I'm so cold."😨 Also the whole thing about snow and the weather report warning, it's a blizzard out here right now where I am....
Super random, but just want to say thank you. I’ve had one of the most stressful days in years and your voice is inexplicably very very calming. It’s like listening to an old friend tell a ghost story around a cozy fire. Thank you 🙏
Fun fact! The guy who voices Sid, aka the voice of the electronics commercial at 31:17 is Nick Landis! He voices Vegeta for Team Four Star's Dragon Ball Z abridged series.
This was so good and it was creepy especially being from Minnesota myself, everyone felt helpless against the snow. I wish they could of alluded to or explained how the snow killed people and how they worked, it seemed they assimilated into the forms of the people they killed but from Carl's death it just looks like a snowman with a face, do they change forms when they kill people? Just little details like that I wish we knew.
for future reference, because of the National Anthem Act, all words and the melody of the Star Spangled Banner are free to use and cannot be copywritten (on the original version). people can copywrite their own versions if they add to the lyrics or melody and transform it vastly.

I know this video is old, but there is a horror movie all about a serial killer snowman. And funnily enough the solution to killing the snowman probably would have worked in series. Which was anti-freeze.
My guess is the monster feeds off humans and uses the voices of the victims to lure other humans to certain locations and kills them. The monster mimics the voices to gain the others trust

He also doesn't have a good sense of humor towards OneyNG taking affectionate jabs at him.
well that one last sentence really negates the thing abt him being a good storyteller.

That "Thanks for the help, bud." Was such unneeded disrespect.
I love that the snow extends to the video itself, as the white static is often called visual snow
You know you made something good that just hearing “hey can help me with this.” can make your heart just drop.
I love suspense and creepiness over scares any day. Scares get you in the moment but creepiness- that keeps you up at night.
Thanks for the help, bud.
The thing is most modern horror, especially horror games, rely on startling players with jumpscares rather than creating actually fear, jumpscares aren’t bad but their best done when put at the end of a long drawn out(but not too drawn out) sequence of tension building.
@@BoldActionSkittyThanks for the help Bud.
@@SheathedSword1764 For example, the jumpscare in the title of Pizza Tower. That's a jumpscare done right.
@@ItzBIULD Hey can you help me with this?
It's nice to have an analog horror that doesn't rely on distorted faces for the creep factor. The "can you help me with this?" was so unsettling in a way that creepy faces just aren't.
Fr it makes it so much more scarier and more unique
...are you serious? It sounds way too cliche then distorted faces. I swear you americans are easily frightened.

That “can you help me with this” while he was trying to lift him out of the snow in the basement INSTANT CHILLS I was so freaked out 😭
Honestly, I’m not surprised by how well done this was once I found out that Scott and Lani from TeamFourStar were involved. I knew I recognized their voices and sure enough, they were in the credits. I should’ve know they would be involved the moment I heard Linkara lol
Wow! What a weird assortment of has-been UA-camrs that aren't doing what they're good at.
Super distracting. Most of it sounded lazy.
i also love how scott called the head doctor “Dr. Gero”
I had a feeling it was them but wasn’t sure thankfully someone pointed it out .

“Hey! Who turned out the lights?” (Doctor Who I forgot the episode)

Idk about can I have a cigarette what’s the context of that one?
Want it more like "got a smoke?" Or similar in Mag?
@@Aperson11028basically a monster that used a human like puppet to lure people into dark alleys and then did something(?) to them. I never got to the end of Magnus Archives though.
The creature made the person puppet say “can I have a cigarette?” When it was luring someone in. They called it the angler fish because it used a puppet as a lure like an angler fish uses its light.

Deputy Blair's voice actor needs an Oscar oh my god his performance as well as Carl's were insanely talented
That was Linkara, the creator himself, as Deputy Blair.
Thank you! I'll definitely be checking out more of his work :)
What's so funny is that it was done as that year's April Fool's Day joke. It was really good, though - we keep hoping he does more.
It sounded like the guy in the parking lot got hit by a snowball. Maybe the suspicious snowman threw one 😂
I love this analog horror, watched it at least three dozen times.
And then the snowball ate through his skull❤
I remember watching a review on this. It was made by a youtuber that usually make skits and for a april fools joke they made one of the best analog horrors ever.
The prank was to give everyone a fear of snowmen

A lot of John Carpenter's The Thing(based on The Thing from Another World which is based on the short story Who Goes There) in this analog horror what with the voice and body mimics. Hilarious that they used a snowman as the monster 😂. Good stuff.

Thanks for answering my question on a live about "will you watch Winter of 83'?" And you said yes, i feel honored
“Hey could you help me with this?” Literally the most dangerous line in the hole series
People think this is scary, but in reality, this is just another typical winter storm for us who live in Minnesota.
I have never been so happy to live in a place that never snows.
"In the end, the best snowball wasn't a snowball at all... It's fear."
Marcus went from being bald to having one of the greatest mustaches I’ve ever seen
The monster is smart, they attacked the police which would limit discovery and ways to fight it
I like this one actually bothered to explain the glitchy videos. In basically any other analog horror random shows will randomly cut out to 'spoiler' stuff and its never explained at all.
i was playing ultrakill when 31:30 came on and it startled me more than i'd like to admit
imagine living in America in the winter , you tryna have a jog outside and someone just goes “hey can you help me w this?”

Huge respect for ur vids, super entertaining to watch, I'm already hyped from the title/thumbnail!
for future reference, because of the National Anthem Act, all words and the melody of the Star Spangled Banner are free to use and cannot be copywritten (on the original version). people can copywrite their own versions if they add to the lyrics or melody and transform it vastly.
Honestly, I feel like the series might be a great way to introduce people into analog horror.
Your voice is so calming i’ve binged watched all of your analog horror videos ever since i found you which was like 4 weeks ago your my primary source of joy and entertainment keep up the good work Marcus!!

I know this video is old, but there is a horror movie all about a serial killer snowman. And funnily enough the solution to killing the snowman probably would have worked in series. Which was anti-freeze.
Such a great series! a wonderful breakdown as well. would be such an honour to have Please Look Away seen and reviewed by you ❤
My guess is the monster feeds off humans and uses the voices of the victims to lure other humans to certain locations and kills them. The monster mimics the voices to gain the others trust
This brings a whole new meaning to "do you want to build a snowman?"

I love how Dr. Chandra is played by Scott from TFS, but I also love that they slipped a Dr. Gero reference in just for fun.
23:47 seems like it's from the lore that your recording froze, repeting "I'm so cold" not to long after her dying in the snow is creepy

From the way it looks the victims are actually sinking into the snow and the snowmen are just the luars
The way it repeats "Hey, can you help me with this?" in the exact same tone every time is so unnerving for some reason and I can't explain why.
