Yep, you absolutely can. I have one, and when my "check engine" light came on, I was able to read the code. I called my mechanic, told him what the code was, and he was able to tell me that it wasn't anything major. He had me clear the code, and it hasn't come back on since. I paid $15.00 for my code reader, and it has saved me hundreds of dollars. Repairs shops charge over $100.00 to plug the reader in and find the code, which is just to find out what the problem is, that doesn't include any repairs. They'll clear the code for you but if you don't write down the code they give you before getting it fixed and it's cleared, you might as well wait until the light comes back on to take it to the repair shop because they're not going to know what was or is wrong with it without the code. Auto Zone will get the code for you for free, but you still need to write it down or don't have it cleared until you have it fixed. If you have any vehicle that puts out codes when something on the dash lights up, and most vehicles on the road today do. You could save yourself a lot of money and trouble by purchasing a code reader that works with the YEAR AND MODEL of your vehicle. They're not a one size fits all product.
Idk something about ripping off a grandpa just boils my blood. You know that guy reset the check engine light. You can tell pops was a standup guy, the other man wouldn’t even look his way….
Absolutely did, even just happens to have a scan tool handy to "check" why the light came on, it's only a vacume leak, just so happens it is some rotted rubber hose in the bowls of the engine that requires engine removal to replace😂
They erased the codes on that vehicle. There's no way a 1999 vehicle wouldn't have a check engine light on it. Buyer should've DEFINITELY had a mechanic with him!! Lesson learned old school!!💪🏽💪🏽
Not necessarily I brought a 1998 Subaru from a older lady for $500 in mint condition no lights at all the most I’ve put into that car was oil changes and tires until I gave it to my lil sis it’s a rare unicorn but can be possible lol
Older cars diagnostic systems weren't as large and took alot more obvious issues to set the light off. Newer cars have sensors for everything and can glitch with small spikes or dips in voltage
That man definitely turned off that check engine light. What a thief! One way to protect yourself against this is ask the seller for something like a 24 hour warranty . If there is anything the seller was hiding about the car it usually manifests pretty quickly within a few hours
Sir, with all due respect you need to have someone with you in the future AND pay a legitimate mechanic to check out the car before you pay & sign for it.
She only believed the defendant and his witnesses about him driving the vehicle ... the plaintiff kept saying that he was sitting idle in the vehicle when the light came on ... bad verdict
The law says if you buy a car without a warranty, it is an 'As Is' sale and it doesn't matter what or who the judge believes. The judge is restricted by laws just as well as the citizens who appear in court. I 'believe' you have issues of comprehension.
Even with that taken into account, his main issue was that he could not prove that the car seller was committing fraud. The plaintiff absolutely needed a mechanic to look at that car before any money passed hands. It sucks honestly, but this was a poor lapse in judgement that he had to pay for. It will likely cost him more money to fix the car and attempt to resell it as well. The defendant in all likelihood knew the car was crap, and I hate people like that. But the plaintiff didn't take any steps to protect himself.
Not in my state. A car is covered by the Arizona Used Car Lemon Law if a major component of your car breaks before the earlier of 15 days or 500 miles after you buy the car. If it breaks, you’ll still have to pay up to $25 for the first two repairs. The recovery for the consumer is the purchase amount paid for the car.
@@2LitProduction true enough. The ADOT Office of the Inspector General reviews complaints from people who feel they have been a victim of fraud and determines if anyone has broken the law. Haven't listened to the case yet to see what the circumstances are but I know generally if you buy a used car it is without a warranty...UNLESS the seller purposefully hid a problem...Such as knowing it has a leak and putting a piece of tape over it to prevent the leak from showing right away...Or in this case clearing the check engine light
When he’s asked at the end if he knew this would happen when he sold him the car, he said “no” but looks like he wanted to nodd his head before he shook it no. #bodylanguage
I'm so confused as to why they couldn't get temp plates in one state if the tags are from another?? Didn't go thru that when my mom and I moved from Utah to Oregon
All he needs to do is take the damn title to DMV in Georgia, title it, register it, put insurance on it and get his plates. Send the registration, insurance card and plates to the son in NJ. Have the son drive-it to a mechanic and have it diagnosed and/or repaired. If he can't afford to come get the car, have his son sell it. It's NOT THAT TOUGH!
People getting SO upset about the check-engine light! There's NO major problem that lights that light. In almost all cases, you can safely drive the vehicle for months with the light on.
Haha...the story at the end reminds me of: I used to know this old guy from England, John. One day where John worked, a call comes through to the management offices (John was the manager) and the owner of the place picks up the phone...and could be heard saying "Oh..yes sir! Just one moment, your excellency..."- then he turns to John and says in a reverential tone "It's *Lord Blyton* from England, for you!". John takes the phone and casually says "Yeah, Bill. What's up?"....
After watching thousands of cases like this, I decided there are more men who PRETEND to know anything about cars than those who actually do. "As-is" is as basic as it gets.
It's a shame that Adrian's uncle lost this case. If only Adrian learned anything from watching all these videos, like private sales are as-is and that it's cheaper to pay a mechanic $100 than to blindly purchase for a few thousand.
