The dress tradition is a tradition my mom follows as well, and she wants to get re-married for various reasons. She proudly wants to wear a different colored dress because you know, I exist and am proof of her "impurity". I find it stupid, and it actually ruins the the reputation of the woman if she wears a white dress during marriage if they aren't a virgin. It's like they're neglecting their previous actions as if they committed a war crime. It's not something Christian, but it is a tradition that comes from who-knows where, but it essentially means that a white dress shows purity, and not being a virgin means you're impure.

I’m a Christian and I’ve never heard of the white dress thing. That sounds like an ancient rule from the Old Testament that nobody cares about. Also why force your religion on someone in the first place? As for the second one, the mom lied to her son and that was wrong, but that doesn’t necessarily make her an a-hole. She loves both of her kids equally and doesn’t want her son to think he’s any less than his sister. The grandma is the one in the wrong in this situation.
