    Thanks so much for posting this and all the info. I was reluctant to buy a ultra frame pool. I didn't want have to take it down in the winter, or it not last because of the sun damage being up all year. We have very mild winters in central Texas where I am and I was hoping I would find the info you have posted. Thank you!!! and thanks for the updates!

      It stands for four years now and freezes every winter. No corrosion, no leaks , pump functions OK everything still perfect. Except for the flimsy cover. I had to replace that after three years.

    Only way to go if you don’t want the legs to snap. Watch for rust after 1 year or so. Best to put rustoleum bed liner undercoating on the edges by the elbows and the elbows themselves. Learning from experience.

      Thank you. I think it also might depend on the quality of steel that is used. Now after four years I do not see a trace of rust anywhere on this pool. But indeed I also see on youtube Intex pools rusting away very fast. By the way: I drilled holes in the rubber feet from the small stairs so the water can get away when I take it out of the pool. Otherwise these stair rust away very fast.

    I left my Intex Prism 10 x 20ft pool up all winter in NJ - trying to open it up today, but the black rubber hose couplers have shrunk and I am not able to put in the parts to reconnect the hoses :( don't kno what to do now?

    I see a lot of testimonials of persons leaving their Intex up over the winter but all of them say to drain it below the hose levels. I am quite happy to see that you have had success leaving it full. Do you have any special advice for winterizing other than what you mentioned in the film about disconnecting hoses, storing pumps, etc? Do you use pillows, any special cover? This will be my first winter with my Intex; I'm hoping to have the same success =)

    Hallo Harry,dus als ik jou goed begrijp heb je niet een speciaal product in het zwemwater gedaan om het zuiver te houden tot na de winter?En kan ik iets van drijvers ofzo in het zwembad leggen zodat het ijs over mekaar schuift in plaats dat het verder en verder uitzet?

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  Рік тому

      Sorry, sorry dat ik zo laat reageer. Het gaat zo goed met dit zwembad dat ik de site soms negeer./verwaarloos. Ik had natuurlijk ook nooit verwacht dat ik zoveel bezoekers op een simpel filmpje zou krijgen.
      We zijn nu jaren verder en het zwembad staat nog steeds (december 2022) als een huis. Soms kijk ik al of ik alvast een nieuwe moet kopen en klaarzetten in de kelder. Maar dat lijkt helemaal niet nodig. Het enige dat gaat roesten bijvoorbeeld is het trappetje in het water. Maar dat tast de sterkte van het zwembad weer niet aan. Als ik het zwembad afsluit verhoog ik het chloorgehalte iets. In de zomer gebruik ik nu vrijwel geen chloor: alleen een drijver met zonnecel en koperanone: dat werkte nu twee jaar prima! Meestal gooi ik er gewoon 3 jerrycans van 5 liter Javel in. Dat is chloor dat hier in Frankrijk te koop is voor 1 euro per 5 liter.. verder gaat er een groot glas met anti-alg in. Ook hier in de supermarkt te koop. Die dosis is eigenlijk te hoog maar ik kan me niet voorstellen dat een half glas van dat spul mijn zwembad algenvrij houdt.
      Het allerbelangrijkste is voor dit zwembad: koppel alles netjes af, maak het 100% choon, droog alles, spuit het vol (vooral alle rubbers) met een siliconenspray en pak de onderdelen in in plasticfolie.

    Do you leave your pump out through the winter ?

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  4 роки тому +3

      No, I take away the pump and te filter and the hoses. I keep the taps on the pool in closed position. Spray everything with silicone especially the rubbers and wrap everything in plastic. I keep it in the shed/cellar at say 6 degrees celsius. If you keep the pump and the hoses attached to the pool it is very likely that you damage the pump and and the hoses and the connection whem it freezes. By the way the pool stands already for four years now and is still in perfect condition! The only thing that breaks down is te cover: it held for three years..

    In fact nothing special. I was worried the valves might break but they didn't. I just use the thin sheet that comes with te poolset but to prevent the sheet from sinking or hanging down I put three cheap airmattresses underneath floating. In the water is only anti algue. The water is not moving for four months. I had about 30 cm of ice in this pool (about a foot).When you lower the water, the pool looses its shape and there comes a lot of stress on the metal and the nylon joints. When the pool freezes when it is full of water everything can move a little when the ice expands and you get no damage. I think that is te trick. In this pool I only use chlorine, salt will cause corrosion after two years.(The idea of lowering the water in winter comes from real concrete pools with liner and with heavy thick covers. When they freeze they get damaged. So to prevent the frost from getting deep you have to lower the water level in those pools. I also maintain the 'real'pool of the neigbours in France and there I have to take these precautions ; )

    • @valerieehernberger439
      @valerieehernberger439 7 років тому

      Thanks for your fast reply, Harry! That makes a lot of sense regarding the stress the frame would take by lowering the level of the water. In fact, that was the big concern I had when considering lowering it like all the other videos show for this pool. We are in Nebraska USA, our winter months can be pretty brutal, lasting 4-5 months, so this will be interesting to see if I can have the same success. We do have the salt system. doesn't that system convert the salt to chlorine? I clearly have no pool experience, haha!!

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  7 років тому +1

      Hi Valerie, there are a lot of pros and cons for the salt system. And you'r right salwater sytems produces chlorine, but it's the salt that is causing corrosion. An expensive pool will be damaged if you do not take all the precautions. And since for holyday-homes people stay away for months the electrolytic cell breaks down rapidly because it is not cleaned regularly, then the heater if one is installed . etc. etc. But as far as I know the intex saltwatersytems holds for at least 4 years but it's not suitable for me. I haven't seen my pool now for two months and it is working on an automatic chlorine dispenser.

    Hi Harry,
    Could you please tell me how thin your concrete slab is? To support those 8,000 gallons of water? Thanks a lot , Fab

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  5 років тому +1

      The slab is 12 cm thick. But a metal framework is also installed in the concrete...furthermore it is essential that the soil is 'old' and not freshly dumped. In my case I had an extra problem: the slab had to be built on a slope…So I dumped all the stones of a whole old farm (!) beneath and under the slab to prevent any movement in later years. Now after three years it still holds perfect.

    • @fabthieb

      @@harrykramer6727 Thank you so much for the info! I am planning to build the exact same pool next month at the back of my garden which is 8,20 meters large. And this pool included the feets is 7,87m long. I want to build a concrete slab for a long term use. The workers told me 12 cm as well for the concrete but with also aboit 10 pillars. Is that necessary or not? I was thinking to make it 15 to 20cm actually but I am really wonder about those pillars. Please give me your advice? Thanks a lot, Fab

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  5 років тому

      Well first: I am not a builder. I just had this crazy idea of making a pool on a steep slope and came up with this design myself. The builders made the calculations. They dug first half a hole and removed the earth. Then they filled the slope part with heavy rocks and stones from an old farm. On top of that came a layer of about 20 cm of fine gravel filling all the spaces between the rocks and stones. On top of that came the slab that had also the metal framework in it. I think you need pillars as a foundation when the ground is clay or clayish. (at least here in the Netherlands they do that..)The pillars must then reach a sand or rock bottom. In my case for the pool, the underground was a very dry and old sandy red-earthy ground that had not been moved or disturbed for ages so very, very dense and hard. No pillars were used. If you have a garden that has been dug up several times you might consider the pillars. 20 cm seems to solve the problem with moving soil I think but then again: a slab that sinks one centimeter causes a lot of trouble for a pool...For me: now three years later the slab is still ok, I see a few haircracks but it did not move a millimeter. Good luck!

      @fabthieb 5 років тому

      @@harrykramer6727 Thank you again! My garden is pretty new about 10 years old. I will definitely make the pillars and a 15cm slab to avoid any move for years. I hope like this it will not move 1cm as you say. Thank you!

      It's not just the slab, that is just part of the cots: its making a horizontal foundation on a steep hill, building a concrete wall and covering it with natural stones. It took the stones of a complete old farmhouse tot make the foundation. Look at the whole video and you will understand this took a week work for three people with a lot of large equipment.

      Well if you look at the whole video you will notice that the pump is not on the wall side. The problem with placing it next to the wall is that it is difficult to put the pool up. The steel beams have to lay flat on the ground first. But when you have the help of a few axtra people you might consider moving it to the wall after you have put up the pool (no water in it ofcourse). But the whole pool weighs about 175 kilo's and is not easy to move. Good luck!By the way the pool still stands and is in perfect condition after 4 years..

See also part 7. ua-cam.com/video/dOWuziz7n2EM/v-deo.htmlost important: you need a powerfull pump. One thing do not pay too much for this device. About 75 euros or 80 dollars is OK.

      Thank you very much for the advice. Its
      my concern: my 6500m3 / hour (1717US gal) - the pump itself alone if i

    • @harrykramer6727

      Yes for sure, that is enough, I have the same pump. See my videos to guarantee an unobstructed flow. I advise you to replace the sand with the new product called 'Interline Fiberclean'. I just changed the sand in my pump with this lightweight stuff. Cost you around 30-35 dollars to replace 25 kg of sand. You absolute get more power from your pump, backwash takes only seconds. I'm very satisfied with this new stuff. Another advantage: the weight: I can lift the whole pump on my own now ; ) The sand was already not in good condition after one year. The intex autocleaner took care of it while it blew into the pool...

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  3 роки тому +3

      Yes it is! It stands for nearly six years now. No damage at all. I only had to replace the two foot tube under the skimmer. That part is made of thin plastic and the chlorine in the skimmer broke it down.
      For the rest: the pump and the filter and the long tubes in and out are still OK, but they are made of thicker plastic. Even the ladder is still ok, although inside there may be some rust but not vissible. No rust on any other part of the pool.
      The only thing that broke down in three years was the flimsy poolcover. I am experimenting with all kinds of cheap covers but nothing seems to last for more than one winter.
      The pool was frozen several times now comletely: one solid block of ice every time! No damage.
      I will upload new videos sure. The only thing that you will notice than is that there are some bleached spots on the bottom. Someone did not now where to put the chlorine tablets and just threw them in the pool. Aaaaargh...
      If it (ever) breaks down I want exactly the same pool again.
      Another point of attention: the concerte slab on the slope did not move one millimeter.

    Just a quick advice. You should never run an intex pool pump with an extension cord.

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you. Yes, you are probably right, but...: the pump only comes with a simple short 2.5 meter cord. So, it is for a pool this big nearly impossible to find a normal plug nearby. I think many owners need to use an extension cord.
      But maybe to reduce the risk of an electrical shock: cut the power when you swim in it. I never do but that is at my own risk.

      @harrykramer6727  6 років тому

      Hi, Yes I understand your doubts.. When you look close to my video you will notice that I have moved my pool about a foot. To put the pool up you have to lay down al the U shaped supports first but than my pool could never stand where it is now. I put the pool up with only one extra person and moving the pool took quite some time, inch by inch very difficult. The bottom of the pool has to stay flat and the everything straight. So I think in your case lift the whole pool with I would say at least 8 people and put it where you want it. Then make all kind of corrections. Good luck!

    • @SimoneOconnell
      @SimoneOconnell 6 років тому +1

      thanks so much for the reply one other thing you did not drain the pool half way in the winter.do you think its best to keep it full to the top with water .did you drain any of it ?

    • @harrykramer6727
      @harrykramer6727  6 років тому +2

      Best not to drain the pool: if you do as many people reccommend, you will notice that the pool will get out of shape with a bent frame and a lot of strange pressure on the liner and its connections with the frame:. That is not good for the pool if it lasts the whole winter in that position. If you fill the pool for the first time (you only have to change water in a pool every eight years or never if it rains a lot) you might think the pool is braking down: it looks very strange all those bent sides. Suddenly when the water is rising above the inlet/outlet the pool it will get it's nice rectangular shape with a lot of shocking strange clicks and cracks but don't worry. Liner and frame are in perfect balance when the pool is filled. Just keep it in that position summer and winter full of water.I will publish very soon my next video I made two weeks ago. The pool was frozen 100% from top to bottem: one chunk of ice, but came out well after thawing. So best advice is in winter: disconnect hoses and pump and do not touch the pool anymore the whole winter.
