  • Narciso Eusebio is a traditional Mayan healer and forest gardener who has dedicated his life to preserving his indigenous cultural knowledge of food cultivation, forest management and plant medicines.
Living on the edge of the Mayan bioreserve, on the border of Guatemala and Belize he has witnessed first hand increased temperatures, drought and unusual weather patterns caused by climate change due to the effects of deforestation for logging and agriculture.
The resulting loss of primary forest, biodiversity and essential medicinal plants and changes in the weather and seasons inspired him to attempt to reverse this trends by creating an abundant forest garden as a model not only for his community but for the world to learn from, in order to save biodiversity and grow food in a way that conserves water while benefiting wildlife and the environment.
In this video we tour Narciso's 50 year old Mayan forest garden, we forage for food and learn about many of the medicinal plants and their uses growing often voluntarily throughout the garden.
The Mayan forest garden is recognized as a core inspiration for Permaculture due to its way of mimicking a natural forest and working with nature rather than against it, where biodiversity is encouraged and sharing with the animals, insects, birds and reptiles is as important as the yield for humans.
Archeologists think that The Mayan's managed the forests of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Belize for over 8 000 to 10,000 years developing many of the world's most popular food staples like tomatoes, squashes, corn, chocolate and vanilla while living in harmony with nature.
As the climate crisis around the world worsens with unpredictable weather patterns and record temperatures and unprecedented droughts we have come in search of the solutions from the indigenous people still living the Mayan way today to guide us back to a more sustainable way of living that can restore the lost ecosystems and save planet earth!

It was a pleasure to meet Narciso and tour his forest garden with him, this video is only touching the surface of the wealth of knowledge Narciso has about all the medicinal plants and herbs that grow on their own without planting seeds. His forest is also full of so many fruiting trees too not everything is ripe in this season, so I hope to return to see his garden at another time of year aswell. 💚💚💚

"And I had a dream about a long, long drought, and I see all the trees brown, the soil brown. All, only three trees that were standing were the banana bread not fruit and cocoyam.
When I woke up, I started to think about the meaning of it. So the meaning is that these plants will send roots like the trees and roots deep in the ground. And the others, like the banana, contain a lot of water in them, so they could withstand maybe a long period of dry weather. And it is happening already because, you know, some waters or some rivers are disappearing. And things will not get so good unless we get together and plant something.
Uh, plant something. No matter if you don't need it, but other people will need it, you know? So don't plant because you don't need it. You plant because you think about other people who will need, and it will be best for the plant because the more green the plant is, the better life people will have. So that's why my aim is to plant all these same kinds of plants that contain a lot of water to make like a model for the people who want to continue living.
Because if you don't have, you know, maybe you don't have food, but you have a piece of sugar cane, you could eat a piece for the day, and then you survive and other things that are around you know because Mother Earth is like a living person. It's sad because then what I don't see right is that there are so many vast areas, cleared areas that are in danger because, you know, there's nothing to hold them together.
So, and I think the planet needs trees to keep it together, you know? Especially when people are living on slopes, they should not cut the trees around this group. And if you've got trees, you've got humus because the trees' leaves are falling, and the humus is growing. And then that's what the earth needs too because the earth is like a human, like I'm telling you. It needs its food. We've got the technique, so that's it."

Why does someone need a job when you grow all your own food? What your suggesting is that someone like narciso needs a job pushing paper work In some useless office or creating products for entitled western, disempowering indigenous people from being self sufficient, and end up living on imported food.
