My great grandpa is Leroy Smith, one of the original miners. I've recently learned about his story and my grandma has made it known to us about what happened that day. I've always known we had ties to Bigfoot stories but I had no idea just how monumental his story was. I'm 90% sure my dad has the same rifle that leroy used to shoot at the "mountain devils" in the story. My grandpa had a gold mining claim called the Vander white that they eventually abandoned because of this incident. I plan on going to this location this spring to see what I can find.
This guy could talk about his collection of plaid shirts and I’d still listen.
I never thought at 24 I would be listening to bedtime stories from a former SEAL, but boy does it hit the spot.
