I used to go to my local “touge” road frequently in my integra but I noticed even though I would tell myself I’m going to just have fun and go the same speed I kept taking corners faster and faster. Never had any scary moments but driving back home I always just thought how stupid it was and the million things that can go wrong. What sucks for me is the nearest track is 2.5 hours away and that road is also my only source of “performance” driving but the negatives outweigh the positives.

That is a perfect way of explaining it and I can totally relate to that.

that's totally reasonable especially since sim racing is getting more and more popular

i used to drive the touge at night and a month ago i drove a road i didn't know ( in the woods where you have no reception ) and pushed it a bit too hard and went into a wall so yea was very fun since you can't call anyone and i had to walk 15 mins to a place to find some signal, afterwards try to locate where i was and then find back to my car for it to get towed.
touge is fun but i don't think i can drive on the touge alone anymore if i don't have friends with me who've got a toe truck lol i cba going through that bs again

i mean ur pretty lucky realistically. 15 mins walk isnt that bad, plus u obviously werent injured, at least not too bad. but yeah, having friends with u is good

HEAVY on the authenticity of touge culture, just a year ago this was a very niche and underrated hobby that only true car enthusiasts knew about, and now everyone knows about it which isn't good at all. You have people who, like you said, just fish for attention online and whatnot by doing gnarly stunts and going for the fastest runs by double laning... not good. I know this "touge" youtuber who has 0 clue what he's talking about despite owning crazy jdm cars, and ofc his audience is made up of people who don't have a license yet so they eat up the content and are influenced to think he is what's considered knowledgable. It's very noticible especially on tik tok that its just a trend to these car guys at this point.

This is why we moved to track racing, won't see the posers there 😎😎

I live in the hills of Portugal, so I drive the touge because I live in the touge, and I do push the car sometimes. In my experience, you WILL have CV Axle/Driveshaft breaks regularly, you will run through tires much quicker depending on road surfaces, a good coilover/shock and sleeve setup plus a good alignment will be necessary, tie rods will fail, bushings and bearings will die frequently, and you will eat break pads. Its an amazing thing to do where I live because there isn't traffic and its mostly non residential, but the money pit it can become is something universal, and you should be ready to have to replace on average 150-200 dollars/euros/pounds of material per month if you plan on doing this more than once per week. If you're still adamant, please pick up an easy maintenance, momentum based car, think any 90s hatch like Civics, 106/206, Clio, Fiesta, Golfs, and things like the Miata. I would advise against a BMW, they are quite heavy and expensive to work on. Id also recommend to get base trims, or the less powerful engine options like the D14 in the Civic, the 1.5 in the PSA's, things like that. They are fast enough, trust me. Focus on suspension components, tires and keep your maintenance standards high. Ergonomics are also important, so make sure you are comfortable with your wheel and shift knob, and if you are somewhere where seats arent strictly regulated, an upgraded, more bolstered seat is a nice bonus. You don't need 4, 5 or 6 point harnesses, your belt will do, but the seat can keep you in place in sharper turns. If you are willing to get your hands dirty, carbureted cars also are a plus, since you can tune your Air/Fuel to match your altitude. A cam gear is also nice to adjust cams to help out in hillclimbing or downhill, depending on your local place. Outside of car materials, I'd highly recommend a set of racing gloves for good grip on your wheel, flat shoes like Vans or similar, and plenty plenty of practice in techniques like heel and toe, Slow-in-fast-out. Keep to your side of the lane at all times, and remember that driving is meant to be enjoyed. Don't rush it, and you might end up liking the touge for cruising and not for doing runs. Happy driving guys!

Been chasing suspension/steering/drivetrain components basically since getting the car. Not always the cheapest car to beat on.
I got all my backroad shenanigans out of me when i lived in Tennessee with my Fit during the height of covid. However, out in Washington, I am more interested in taking on performance driving course's with offerings out in Seattle, and dumping the money into making the civic a track weapon, and getting a fit later on to daily in stock form, and baby a lot more than my old one.

Definitely can relate with getting more into track stuff! I just feel much safer having a controlled environment and feel like I would be able to extract everything because of that

touge is just driving fast down curvy roads. "the touge" usually just means someones favorite touge-driving road

It literally means "mountain pass" in japanese, but it refers to very narrow mountain roads that have a lot of tight turns.
