The only thing to dislike about EF's is that unless you have an Si, you have to do a MPFI (Multi-Point Fuel Injection) swap before you can accomodate a VTEC engine; ideally an OBD0 B16a since it was designed to fit the EF and the EF was the first Civic to have them along with the Integra DA6.

looking into buying one a guy has posted for $300 and yes it has the d15b2 an it does need the engine replaced butttttt i wanna daily the b2 for now upgrade the suspension and brakes before i do a k series swap

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the D15 bottom end. Mine ran to 300k. There is way more information on these platforms and this engine and setup now are the EASIEST cars for someone new to turning wrenches to work on. I learned on this car and started with that same D15 and made 148 WHP with a VTEC head along with Bisimoto Cams and a header. I still own this car after 25 years and will never get rid of Biggest thing on this generation is the main relay under the driver dash/footwell will need a solder touch-up if you know what you're doing. Also, the distributor igniter may go bad but mine didn't go to over 200k. Lots of misinformation but you will live and learn to appreciate this car the more you live and learn. Good luck.

Look the short version is this; unless you buy an Si with a low mileage d16a6 that's been well maintained you should plan on replacing the engine in your EF hatch (if it hasn't already been done). The motors that came in these cars are 30+ years old at this point and most of their lives have probably been with underfunded owners that didn't keep up with their maintenance properly. The D series motor is very well built but if it doesn't get regular oil changes it's going to cause oil consumption and blow by issues. The less said about regular timing belt and water pump replacements (or more importantly the lack there of the better). What that means is that unless the car has a B series engine or already installed (or possibly a VTEC D16y8) you should budget as if the engine installed is going to be replaced and make any offer to the seller on the basis of that information. If you plan on buying an EF with a swapped engine then you need to known enough about the cars and the engines and the swaps to be able to ask smart questions about what you're getting. And if you don't get answers you like then then either walk away or drop your offer price. Nobody that owns a car this old should go into it without at least some mechanical knowledge and (if they aren't going to do the work themselves) a knowledgeable and reliable mechanic.

After install i noticed my shifter wouldnt center in neutral. I installed a better spring located under the starter. Now the left side springs back, but not right. Any ideas?

The very first mod you should do to a over 30 year old car are the suspension bushings. I would say every rubber bushing you can find on the car. 1. Suspension Bushings 2. Coilovers 3. Exhaust 4. Wheels

My biggest regret, I had a chance to buy a EF hatch black Si body with a B16A2 swap for $3,000. My bank wasn't in the sellers area so we canceled the deal.

Hey man! I loved your video. It's a good thing that you're trying to keep it real now. I know you're going to make something great out of that EF / ED6. I have had mine for over 10 years, and I just recently started to put some love in it because it's really expensive.

I got a 89 CRX with the D16A9 Motor. DOHC 124hp. Too bad the engine wasn't available in the USA. The car weighs 920k and is incredible to drive. The chassis and engine are really good. I didn't expect a small 1.6 liter engine to have so much torque down low. I have driven NA and NB Miata's for 9 years and the Honda engine is without a doubt superior to the 1.6 engine from the NA Miata. I also find it better than the 1.9 from the NB. The Honda engine feels livelier and loves to rev.

D15B2 is actually pretty reliable, my DX has been saving me money lmao, and they don’t burn oil so fast like the B-series would normally do

This hapened to me very recently, bought an A3 8L PD160 "frankenstein swap". Looking to sell it to buy an EF and this video helped alot! The swap is awsome tho its just no well done at all.

I’ve had 3 EF’s from the 1.3 GL to an EE9, and none of them I’ve needed to let warm up for 5-10 mins before driving, or had any idling issues at all. Key in, turn and start, then set off. I think your EF is knackered mate 😂

Wow, I got lucky. Just picked up a 90 with d15b. It’s not clean by any means and someone wired the engine with their teeth but I’ll make it run right. The engine has great compression

I have 3 of EF sedan.. EF its nice from everything. For power k swap or b series its too much for the ef bc it's very light. If you want it for show just lower it... 3 it's cool to have 1st for power and 2nd for show and 3rd stuck
