    1. Work SUPER hard
    2. Gather/Join great people full of talent and work ethic
    3. Pay attention to SIGNAL, not noise
    4. Don't follow the trend
    5. Take risks now when you're young and don't have much obligation

You have Elon on campus after all the LA traffic, and you give him less than 5 minutes (with pretty bad sound recording).
He is visibly under prepared by any standard, but his sheer presence let me feel my tuition paid off lol.

I was beaming with pride at my daughter's graduation from USC Business School, my alma mater. I was thrilled to hear Elon Musk speak. He was fantastic. Elon is a shinning example that "high beta" people(aka risk takers) move the world forward. 3X he was near personally bankrupt by his companies that became huge successes. In the one failure and your done forever world that I come from it is refreshing to see a risk taker succeed spectacularly 3X from near business death. Lesson here is pain that doesn't make you weak or kill you makes you experienced, stronger and better and someone to take a chance on. I would back Elon in any venture.

    These two quotes....
"So, work hard, like, every waking hour. "
    "Rather than reasoning by analogy,
you boil things down to the most fundamental truths you can imagine, and then you reason up from there.
And this is a good way to figure out if something really makes sense, or is it just what everybody else is doing.
It’s hard to think that way, you can’t think that way about everything.
It takes a lot of effort. But if you’re trying to do something new, it’s the best way to thing.
And that framework was developed by physicists to figure out counter intuitive things, like quantum mechanics.
    It’s really a powerful, powerful method. "

his 2nd advice is very dangerous for startups though, in fact it's a suicide idea. Spending everything to make the product better it's a suicide mission for startups. The ideal plan would be start off with a great/useful product and spend 80% of money on marketing and 20% on R&D.

    • @aryamanchoudhary2779
      @aryamanchoudhary2779 3 роки тому

@@blackbox1024 you can't just generalize like that. If you're an electric car startup like tesla you better spend most if not all of your money on RND at least in the early stages. However, if you're something like a platform-based company like airbnb, you're gonna have to up marketing efforts more

Not many of them exceed it.

    • @sun281jon

Kenny CanHe The opposite is true. All battery will never be a viable alternative to fuel combustion because those 60000ib tractor trailers rolling down the highway will never be able to run on an electric motor charged by a battery. The battery would weigh heavier than the cargo, and it'd take a week to charge.

clinkit The power of the motor they use (310kW, 600 Nm)in the tesla S enough to run a 60,000lb truck and if they optimise the tranmission ratio will help too, but you prob won't get great mileage on it at the moment.
You're talking about a very young industry here, it's stupid to speculate that something will "never be able to run" if they have never tried to use their technology to work on a truck.
