Most of the time I ride alone, but a couple of times a year I get together with my good friends for a ride. I have one friend who I would ride with all the time as we ride about the same and stop about the same. But he lives 2,000 miles away. So it's alone for me, thank you for posting this and I truly enjoy your content.
i am taking off tomorrow morning on a 2-week solo trip on my DCT Tour from Utah to CO, TX, NM, AZ and California (I'll even be passing by your neighborhood on my way to Yosemite!), so I guess this answers that question. I go on maybe one group ride a year, but it isn't my favorite thing to do. Going with a riding buddy or two, however, is great.
I have a great group of riding buddies, I truly enjoy their company, comradely and banter. But for me, I love being alone on the open road, especially on a multi day ride or long adventure. I just feel so much more free to do my own thing in my own time!
I rode 120 miles today after my buddies canned our meet up it was forecast to rain. And it did for 110 miles, not bad rain and I was somewhat cold. Still I rode gently and enjoyed it 👍
I do mostly solo riding, but do enjoy a small group occasionally. I am a member of a CMA chapter and we do attend some large events. We generally split up into groups of 4 riders max. That is much more manageable. As a 70 year old, I do not tolerate hooliganism on a group ride.
Group is fun but…alone is best for me I’ve found. To many personalities, to fast or to slow in terms of pace. I don’t feel the need to have to hit 1000 miles per day. I like to smell the roses if you will. I don’t chase women and I don’t drink so there’s that. If you’re going to ride in a group, my recommendation is no more than 3 to 4 guys, take some small rides initially, day trips are good. You must make sure the compatibility is there.

You have an amazing grasp of the obvious...

I am now 58 and mostly ride alone. Good to see someone else's similar point.

Same here, solo is more fun. Occasional group rides.
