i just recently found out Huey is a distant cousin. My great uncle is John Henry Newton from Monroe, La. im from New Orleans, La. Wow. i intend to find his family and connect with them.

You can find some great rare footage of Huey at diva.sfsu.edu/, but you have to really sift through a lot of random crap for it. There's footage of him at press conferences, in jail and some videos of him getting released from prison and whatnot. Also, the Civil Rights Digital Library has 2 great fairly long vids of him too.
Oakland was a totally different city than it is now. Yeah it was somewhat diverse, but nothing like today. According to reports there are over 150 different languages spoken in oakland. That means we have lots of citizens who speak more than one language. It's sad what oakland has become. It's definitely not an American city anymore.
And oakland is racist in a different way than what it was in the 60's and 70's. Back then it was mostly police racism towards blacks. Most of our white citizens lived away from the ghetto parts of oakland . And we had a lot of white support when it came to the panthers. Now it's the foreigners who have moved to oakland, or should I say migrated, that are very racist. I have a message: If your going to move to America, accept the different cultures that comes with living in the free world. I've lived here for almost 60 years, and it's insulting when I walk down the street and get discriminated against or get treated indifferent by people of other nationalities who have only lived in oakland for a few years. This is my home. And I'm not racist, nor will I ever be.
Beautiful Brave and Brilliant black men fifty or more years ago stood up for Black American against racist white police.. and other inhumanities against us… Many were killed in cold blood.
