Troy beat Dickens Hill and Northern Baby in the Derby and won the Benson and Hedges over 10 furlongs at York which has been a graveyard for many a hood horse Brigadier Gerard and Grundy to name two. Troy was very underrated as the 79 Derby had a really good line up. Also don't know why there is no footage of the 79 B and H race at York??
@@petecarter2618 Spot on, Troy beat Dickens Hill again in the Irish Derby, then went on to take the King George before being dropped back to ten furlongs in the Benson And Hedges (International today) and running a credible 3rd in the Arc, one of the best Derby winners and surprisingly one of the most overlooked when people are taking about great Derby winners, I have asked that question about why no footage of Troy's B&H win, and the best answer I got was there was a TV strike at that time so no one could get any footage from there TV, so if York Racecourse didn't have any archives there's probably no footage sadly.
There were some outstanding 3 year olds in 1979 with Troy the best of the lot.
Yet some call Troy's Derby substandard.
