I’m getting so much joy watching Abbey with the apples. She’s having a blast. When she took a bite of the apple I laughed so hard. I just love your videos so much. 😂
I love this. How active she was while cutting the fruit, she was truly into the activity. I’ve also been watching you all for a very long time (since you all were in your old house!) and boy, she’s so grown now! She looked very much like a young lady.
I grew up with a grandma that dehydrated all kinds of stuff. Loved it and the fond memories. I miss her so much. You've inspired me to get one and do the same for my autistic son. Thanks! ❤️
Sorry you and Abbie had a rough few minutes Mom i love how she watches things like cutting the apple because she is interested. Thats so amazing! Goid job Abbie!!
I worry for you guys. I had a very sweet 1st cousin who's son was like Abby. He got older and bigger and heavier. He got really physical with his mom and dad. He was so sweet at the same time. He didn't mean to hurt his parents and boy did he love them both so very much! The anger would come from nowhere when he got into his 20's. Both parents would sport black eyes and bruises. It just got to be too much and they HAD to place him. That was a couple decades ago and there are resources now. I think of your family often and pray for you just as much!
😂 I died when Abbie pickup up the whole apple and bit it and sat it back down real quick so u won't see 😂😂😂😂 she is hilarious and she was having such a good time..... She was smiling and giggling so much
I've had a dehydrator for a few years and I use it all the time. My favourite is green apples but I also love getting the rind of lemons and dehydrating them and then I make it into powder to add to baking or an extra flavour in lemonade. It means that I don't waste any part of the lemon. You can also boil down the pith to use as a sour note in sauces, broth and cakes. I don't tend to do that with the pith.
Asa, Amazon has a kitchen thing that peels, cores, and spiralizes apples. Abbie could turn the handle and make it happen. It’s reall cool and has a suction disc to hold it on your counter. I think she would like it.
I can relate, 7yr old grandson ASD has those uncontrollable moments too. for people who have never experienced those moments the key is, never to take it personally. cheers to Abbie and Cilla
Honey - Local made honey from your area will help reduce allergies. I do it as certain pollen floors me! Thought behind it is if you have it in your system it doesn't affect you so bad! Works for me!
Oh sweet Abby.... you sure changed my entire mood with your laughter. Such a joyful time with dad in the kitchen. Found myself smiling so big before i even realized it. 😊 Made my day ❤️
Love you guys! I was curious as I saw you and Abbie making the dried fruit and throwing away the banana peel if you ever thought about a small compost system outback for Abbies garden. Thank you for sharing your lives, it makes me so happy watching you all...great people ❤
I used to work in the DD field in voc. I had a 40 yr old autistic man, nonverbal w/bad pica. One day I was walking out of the office with his snack and stopped and turned around to talk to my manager. He got impatient and I'm pretty sure just went to tap me but ended up hitting me so hard I flew across the room 5 ft. And unfortunately he hit me just right (also had a previous injury there from transferring residents) that it popped 2 ribs out so instant tears started leaking even though I tried not to. He got so upset that i was hurt that he started hitting himself in the head, which is something he NEVER had done before. Then he just started petting my face. I felt so bad that HE felt bad cuz in the end it was my fault. For stopping a task (his snack, especially being so food focused), turning my back, and getting distracted with my manager. I'll also add that I was the only staff who TRULY talked to him like a human and could even take him to stores without him ripping open any food item. It hurt him that he hurt me...
I'm so sorry that happened to you. But you seemed like you were an awesome therapist/friend to your clients. I hope Abbie felt bad for doing that to her mother. I just wonder why it happens to her all the time and not her Dad.😢
@@oh_thats_kris I'm not sure why mom gets it more and dont want to speculate. It could be something as simple as dad having a deeper voice so get through to her on tough moments. I loved working in DD but my true passion is elderly/hospice so that's where I landed.
there are fruit mats for dehydrators to prevent sticking. Also you can make your own fruit leather "aka" fruit roll ups. You an also dehydrate stuff from Abbey's garden
Love the concentration Abby has in doing a task. The focus she keeps even when distracted. Focusing right back at the task all the time. Thank you Abby for Teaching me. I have a hard time staying on task. Once I get off task it’s hard to get back on.
i would suggest placing the dehydrator outside away from the airflow into the house to keep the smell out when dehydrating jerky...Dad used to fish, we wouldn't waste one bit. Head and tail for crabbing, innards. guts for fertilizer, fresh salmon, canned salmon, and frozen salmon. He made a smoker and placed it in our yard...the salmon jerky was amazing...that was 55 yrs ago....he also hunted and we did the same with the deer & moose meat.
Farmers market here means from farm to table. No chemicals etc used to grow produce. From Ireland and watching years. Love Abbie and how far she's progressing in life.
I have an air fryer that has a dehydrator setting that I’ve been using to make jerky with chicken instead of beef. I have made apple chips and cinnamon apple chips but I have not yet adventured out to other fruits yet.
Its really incredible how excited you guys become whenever you find a new activity for Abbie! Great role models, thanks for making such positive videos.
You can also sprinkle cinnamon on the apples. Idk if that would be to complicated at first for her, but for the future. It really change the taste and sensory in the mouth a bit.
It's just part of the anxiety with autism since my brain bleed and tramatic brain injury it effects part of the nervous system we don't underst it it's just reactions to things
I make dehydrated apples all the time in the summer. I would probably suggest you put your more dense fruit at the bottom where the heat source originates. That way you can take off the thinner less dense fruit first on the top tray first because it needs less cooking time than the thicker fruit. I wouldn't advise you to use wax paper. It will cover the holes that allow the hot air to travel between the layers. Also I think wax paper will mess up your trays.
Oh gosh I hope Asa sees this question bc I would love to know. As I hear Abbey laugh its great bc I can hear her voice and its like as if I can hear how she would sound if she spoke with a talking voice. My question is , do you hear that as well? Like do you think that maybe you can hear how she would sound if she spoke?
Love this. Love hearing abbies giggle. Cilla, i know its hard when our kids have moments where they act out. My 3 used to headbutt me, pinch me and my oldest used to hit me or punch me(she is diagnosed with an explosive mood disorder) thankfully she has learned coping skills that she still uses to this day at almost 17.
Oh man, you’ve made me want to get a dehydrator again!! I used to love making jerky in the dehydrator-was so popular with friends/family it seemed like I always had a batch on the go.🤣It did however make a mess of the dehydrator trays (that needed a ton of soaking afterwards) & made the house stink of jerky for days (cause it usually does take a couple days with jerky unless it’s super, super thin (thin cut-more snappy in texture). I used to cut it a little thicker cause I preferred the chewy/bendy texture🤣. I wouldn’t say it was a bad smell, it was just tedious smelling it for days on end. Just make sure with jerky that u add the required amount of salt per pound/kg meat, the thermostat is set for meat, & that it’s very much properly dried😉. Hopefully Ab wouldn’t pinch 1/2 dehydrated jerky…cause that wouldn’t be good for her tummy.
It's a process!! I sprinkle a little cinnamon on the apples, (either before or after) and also, sprinkle a wee bit of fruitic acid, or a fine spray of lemon juice to stop the fruit from turning brown...you'll get the hang of it..and you have your mom to give you some tips!!!
Abbie cracks me up! She makes a bad day better. I love dried fruit but have to watch how much I eat of them since I am diabetic. At the grocery store I shop at I will pick up bananas on the reduced price bin to make banana bread
Get a spray bottle and fill one third lemon juice and 2 thirds water and spritz your fruit.. it will help it not brown so much.. I love making venison jerky
We pay top price for produce here in the store and much are bruised or rot in a few days. In the summer our farmers markets have the best…from farm to table…better prices.
Thank you for tipping that lil boy, it really shows your heart for others
Young man earned it! He was very helpful.
How can you not smile and chuckle when Abbie is so happy and laughing.
i chuckle and smile so much when i hear abbie laughing and giggling....she's the best huh!!1
Take a bad day and add some Abby giggles and everything seems so much better! I had happy tears in my eyes while joining in Abby's joy!
I was laughing so hard with her 😅 she’s going to keep y’all on your toes nothing boring for Ms Abby ❤
I’m getting so much joy watching Abbey with the apples. She’s having a blast. When she took a bite of the apple I laughed so hard. I just love your videos so much. 😂

Yep! I did too! 😂😂
That mischievous look she gave as she dropped the small pieces then looked and took a bite :-) She was being so silly on purpose:-) I love it

i know you and Priscilla always hear her laughing, but to us in the audience who don't hear it too much, it's gold!!
When Abbie bit the big apple I lost it, hahaha. Her zest for activity is so sweet.
Thanks!
Sorry you and Abbie had a rough few minutes Mom i love how she watches things like cutting the apple because she is interested. Thats so amazing!

I just ordered the dehydrator. Thank you for the link!
Such a great activity. My son loves dried apples. Add a little cinnamon on them before you dry them and it adds a little extra yummy flavor!
I Love her laugh

OH MY GOSH the side eye she gave Asa when she bit into the whole apple was priceless.
I love Abby I want to let you know she’s a real angel god bless herShe’s really a blessing

I’m cracking up with her laughter. It’s so cute and heartwarming ❤
I look forward to seeing the end project!
The dehydrating fruit is a great activity, if you can keep Abbie from eating the fruit.

Did you know you can dehydrate apple sauce or other fruit sauce if you have a specific dehydrator sheet and make a fruit roll up kind of deal.
5:39 she definitely mouthed yeah that she was ready!!!
Abbie laughing and biting the 🍎 🍏 was funny. Sorry Priscilla abbie had a moment . Hugs.
Abby taking a bite of the apple made my day 😂 😂
