you have to come over to my instagram at @leafy.lane and show me all of your progress shots! if you want one of the propagation cones, they're from www.rt1home.com
I’ve tried the tooth picks method on 3 seeds, waited 4 months nothing comes out. A BIG THANKS i try your method on 4 seeds 2 weeks ago and I’ve got 2 with small root coming out. I’m soooo happy. Thanks thanks I love AVOCADOS😍 you are the best. Stay happy 😁 Tania from Mauritius Island 🌴
Make sure that you cut the top of the bottle lengthways & then tape it back together again.....this way you can easily remove the sprouted seed when you need to.
We started our seed on February 24th opened it March 26th and have a small root popping thru! Yay 😀 we are so happy! Now we are about to transfer to the water bottle. Wish us luck ! Jess and Mom (Cindy)
Rather then peel the skin right away let the pit sit out for a few days to weeks and dry out. The skin naturally pulls away and then you can almost blow it off it comes off so easy. Love the little cone with a string idea. Looks hella easy to DIY with some microfiber string (like you use to clean bike spokes with) and and a coffee filter/cardboard.
My cat got to one of them and it cracked in half but still had the root... I've kept it in water and it seems to be growing just as fast as the whole pit. Think this will grow?? Thanks for the tutorials, this has been a fun project ☺️
I've always done the toothpick way, with success...my cats just killed my latest avocado plant that had TWO stalks! 😒😥 So I have a new pit & today I'm trying your zip-loc method. (Another way to keep pits (with roots) out of water is to use a funnel) 💚🥑
Thank you very much, all my life ok 40yrs of my 62yrs of life I have tried to grow a avocado 🥑 seed, they would never grow, and thanks to you I now have three seeds growing in my kitchen window, they make me so happy 😊. Ty ty ty!
Hi, I've got 7 avocado seedlings growing in jars using the toothpick method and after 30 days they all grew roots. I agree with you about not being able to throw a seed away I do the same. Thanks for your video I'm going to try it your way too.
Already started doing this to multiple avocado seeds a couple weeks ago and their already rooting all of them!! Thank you! Please make a video on how to care for the actual plant!
I ordered my propagation coooooone! And just put my seed in the paper towel! I'm so excited... Oh and so you don't end up with a million avo seeds around your home... I keep seeing shaved avo seed is good for something. Lol I'm not sure what, but I'm about to search a video. Anyway, that'll give you an alternative use for your avocado pip lol!
Hey, I enjoy your videos and have tried twice already 😄 Totally forgot to peel the 1st pit so I tried again and the skin came off so easily. I rinsed it under warm/hot water and it peeled right off! Hopefully it roots. Thanks for the tips
@ Ikea Fauntleroy, You can place it anywhere. I put mine on a warm place. Like by a window. No need to change paper. I've grown 3 so far, and had success germination.
Hi! When you put the pit in the baggy, do you seal/zip it shut or do you leave the bag open. I was reading that you should leave the baggy open and put it in a dark cabinet
found this through your IG picture 😂 I tried the toothpick method and they didn’t work! I would get a short stubby root and then..... nothing. I’m gonna try this and hope it works!
I tried this but I haven't got to the water part yet BUT YES the seeds in the bag have nice big roots I'm just waiting for them to get a little bigger.
Very cool ! I've done it this way as well and it grows ! Never managed with the sticks either ! I've been putting the seed into the fridge but from what I see from your experience, there's no need, right ? (it was for the humification) Thanks !
So far so good. One of them is growing really well and the other is growing slower. The few that I did the toothpick method on are duds. I killed one by breaking the root while moving it. I'm so excited about Miss Ava (the one that's growing like crazy) lol.
When the plant grows big does it keep growing even if it is kept indoors. It is beginning to get cold windy out here I m planning to bring my avocado plants indoors. Please advise
Ok, I have a couple of piths sitting in water in my kitchen window now. One has split and the larger one has done nothing yet. They are at 3 weeks and 1 week respectively. Could I go ahead and try this method with the week old pith? Or should I start fresh? Thanks! Really enjoyed the video
I love it when you burst out laughing, so cute! I just set up a pit with toothpicks like 2 days ago, I just peeled all its skin off. I have another avocado to eat tomorrow and will definitely try your ziplock bag method ! If you love cute plants you should try sprouting lemon seeds and planting them, it makes the cutest plant.
Hi brad. So I cut my beautiful but weak looking 3 leaf stem because i heard it would grow back stronger but it hasn’t shown any signs of growing back. Did I fuck up?
Hey! So I have a question so I cut back my avocado plant (it’s in water). I don’t happen before but now it building like a slime on the roots, is that normal? Did that happen to you too? And if it’s unnormal do you know how what it might be?
I accidentally broke the root off my avocado pit. It was growing so nice but I forgot it in the bag in the cupboard and the root was super crooked in a way that I couldn't put it ontop of a vessel with the root in water. I tried to stupidly but gently straighten a bit but it broke off. Will one grow back if I throw it back in the bag and in the cupboard???!!! I'm so sad.
Ok I'm going to try this method because the toothpick method is Not working they start to grow but fungus gets on the roots I constantly change the water & when I try to remove the fungus sometimes the roots fall off. I hope this works🌱🌿🌞😉
even with this method it can take a long time or not work. thats just mother nature just being mother nature. the toothpick can work 100% but the strike rate is a lot less :)
Hiii I'm trying your method and it's working, but now I have to put the seed into the water and I don't know exactly where I should put it. Can you help me please? Ps. You're really cool 💕
Does the paper towel need to be replaced or moistened at all within those ten days? I’m so excited to try this method! I’ve tried the toothpick method and I have two pits that have cracked but it’s been 3 weeks 😭
okoko osisi awesome! yeah it does work but I personally found it worked very slowly and not every time but this method has a significantly higher strike rate in my experience 😁🥑🌱✨
So after watching 3 🥑 seed starting/germination videos I realize ive done my seed wrong 😑 by not peeling off the skin. So ill be redoing it and trying both methods again.
Hi! As soon as i watched this i was begged my husband to buy me avocados. Took the pits out of them, peeled the coating, wrapped them in wet paper towels, chucked one in a plastic bag and one in a sealed container. It's been more than a week, but i still dont feel any roots growing (i try to feel around the plastic bag to check for the root). What seems to be the problem?
yeah it varies. its never the same time as we're dealing with Mother Nature. I've done tons of them and sometimes they're supppppperrrrrr fast and sprout in 7 days and sometimes they can take up to 4 weeks or not even sprout at all. just keep at it :)

Tania Abellard yay!
You can cut the top of a plastic water bottle off and put it inside to bottle. The avocado will sit right in the bottle top.
it is a good method, but when the tree matures, the root might get stuck in the neck of the bottle.
Make sure that you cut the top of the bottle lengthways & then tape it back together again.....this way you can easily remove the sprouted seed when you need to.
You can also use the top plastics(cover) of frapes or coke floats
Once you rinse the seed, use a spoon to peel the skin off. It makes it so much easier and it comes off in larger pieces
We started our seed on February 24th opened it March 26th and have a small root popping thru! Yay 😀 we are so happy! Now we are about to transfer to the water bottle. Wish us luck ! Jess and Mom (Cindy)

I’m bored in quarantine imma try this!!!!!
haha best quarantine project
My cat got to one of them and it cracked in half but still had the root... I've kept it in water and it seems to be growing just as fast as the whole pit. Think this will grow?? Thanks for the tutorials, this has been a fun project ☺️
Great thinking 👌🍃🌴☘🌿🌱🌲

your tape trick just saved my life XD

I smiled the WHOLE TIME! Thank you!! 👏👏👏👏
It even worked on the seed I had with toothpicks I the windowsill for 4 weeks! Whoo hoo! Sanity saver. You’re an avocado GENIUS!!!! Thank you!

This really works. My avocado seed cracked open after two weeks. Thank you so much for the tips.
Now I have to eat my 5 avocados tomorrow! 😆
Britt Mosher haha!
Hi there! How do you know the avocado is ready for the next big step, namely being planted into soil? Thanks for your response!
Shana Graf they can stay in water for a very long time but I would plant it once it’s mature 🌱✨
Going to try this!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much for this, I tried it and it grew beautifully with my first attempt!!
yay!
Brilliant video, love your personaliy and quirky content. Love you dude
Joshua Hewlett aw thank you! 🌿
I ordered my propagation coooooone! And just put my seed in the paper towel! I'm so excited...

I will definitely going to try it. Thank you for this awesome tutorial.
you're welcome!

Amazing, I can't wait to try this in the morning!
Kelly Nickle yay!
This worked for me and I see a root on the seed! Thank you!
Allen the Avacado is growing so well. I am so hooked on this I now have Angela the Avacado starting. I will post pics
I just put my avocadoseed in a bag, soooo excited what will happen!
Alena Schäfer yay!
Thank you for making this! What a game changer
Katie Stovall I know right!! works basically every time!
my avocado just started cracking in the ziplockbag!
Hey there! I put my seed in the bag last night! Where did you store the bag, and do you have to refresh the paper towel?
@ Ikea Fauntleroy, You can place it anywhere. I put mine on a warm place. Like by a window. No need to change paper. I've grown 3 so far, and had success germination.
E Al thanks so much
Loved the sticky thing trick
I am sooo going to try this !
Helen Fontana yay!
I did the tooth pick method took 3 months now I have a healthy small tree☀️
This video was very helpful thank you!❤️
Lynette Miranda Bravo thanks for watching!
Did you re-wet the paper towel in the 10 days the pit was kept in the bag? Does it need to get any light or can it be placed in a cabinet?
Nicole Gonzalez it should stay damp as the bag will be humid. some can take longer to sprout. I kept mine in my pantry 😁
where should I store them once they have leaves? outside for more sun? Or will they be fine indoors ?
Hi! When you put the pit in the baggy, do you seal/zip it shut or do you leave the bag open. I was reading that you should leave the baggy open and put it in a dark cabinet
I seal all of mine as it helps keep it super humid in there which is what helps it crack and grow a root
found this through your IG picture 😂 I tried the toothpick method and they didn’t work! I would get a short stubby root and then..... nothing. I’m gonna try this and hope it works!
I tried this but I haven't got to the water part yet BUT YES the seeds in the bag have nice big roots I'm just waiting for them to get a little bigger.
TravisBrown so good!!
Where do you get those cool tube lights and what are they called? The ones standing up leaning against the wall?? Great video!
Very cool ! I've done it this way as well and it grows ! Never managed with the sticks either ! I've been putting the seed into the fridge but from what I see from your experience, there's no need, right ? (it was for the humification) Thanks !
Early Yogis thanks for the comment! yeah try keep it out of the fridge but can’t wait to see your results! 😄
At 6 mos follow up, the one's planted directly in soil are bigget and stronger than one's started in water then transferred to soil.
Trying this today!
Maria Rodriguez yay!
do you placed the Ziploc bag in the dark or in the sunlight?
I just did 2 of them! I can't wait to see what happens !!
yay! keep me updated
So far so good. One of them is growing really well and the other is growing slower. The few that I did the toothpick method on are duds. I killed one by breaking the root while moving it. I'm so excited about Miss Ava (the one that's growing like crazy) lol.

So damn helpful and informative haha! Imma grow 20 avo plants around the house haha!
haha sounds amazing!
😂 that's what I'd say!!
Stacy Stalstone yeah when I first tried it I tried it with ones I already had over water
omg thanks this helped so much
Josephine Chapelan yay!!
I love this, how long did you leave it in the bag for? I will not be able to throw the seeds away now 😆
Karen some of mine took 10 days and others too a few weeks so keep and eye on them 😁
I love it when you burst out laughing, so cute! I just set up a pit with toothpicks like 2 days ago, I just peeled all its skin off. Melodie Poulin haha you gotta make yourself laugh I guess 😂 great idea thank you!
Tried your technique on a mandarin seed. It’s sprouted a root! Whether it can grow to a plant may be a different story
HI, I was very interested to know what happened to your seeds? Did they turn into a plant?
Please let me know. Email me at above thank you
Hi! Thanks for the video... do you have a link to the white avocado holder?
ambravernuccio search for rt1home on Instagram
should you change the paper towel out at all during the 10 days in the bag?
Lan Le only if it goes moldy which can happen
Hi brad. So I cut my beautiful but weak looking 3 leaf stem because i heard it would grow back stronger but it hasn’t shown any signs of growing back. Did I fuck up?
I would love to do this. I'm OBSESSED with avocados. Also, will it have babies?
Mya Papaya definitely give it a go! If you plant it in soil it will grow into a tree! 🌳
Lol I’ve had a pit in a cup of water for like two months but it has a little bit of a root now so it’s just chillin :)
Grace Lodgard hopefully he grows soon!
Hey! So I have a question so I cut back my avocado plant (it’s in water). I don’t happen before but now it building like a slime on the roots, is that normal? Did that happen to you too? And if it’s unnormal do you know how what it might be?
Hi
I’m doing this I don’t know should I put the ziplock in the freeze or under the window ?
Tnx !!!
elgifu elgifu I leave mine in the pantry
What do I do when my pit rooted out the bottom and the side..If only the bottom root is in water will it still grow ??
I've never tried this...because I always have success with the toothpick method.🥑
Alison McWonderland awesome! 🌿
Do you have to keep wetting the paper towel or just leave it for a week?
Rebecca Collins nah if you seal the ziplock bag you won’t need to keep wetting it as it’ll stay damp 😄
I kept mine in a Tupperware box, is that still ok? its been 4 weeks but im not sure if its because of Melbourne winter making it grow slower
not 100% sure as I've never tried that but should work!
I'm so sad.
Can it grow to not so sunny shelf in my house?
Before peeling off the skin, soak the pip in water for a few hours, the skin will come right off
Does the water need to be changed, and if so, how often?
sticky tape?? that’s just so clever
Question, do you fully zip the bag or do you live it semi-open?
I'm curious about this too. Leave the bag open or closed?
Lourdes Rincón fully close the bag 😄
BRAD CANNING thanks for the response!
@@bradcanning Thank you!
Ok I'm going to try this method because the toothpick method is Not working they start to grow but fungus gets on the roots I constantly change the water & when I try to remove the fungus sometimes the roots fall off. I hope this works🌱🌿🌞😉
After you wash the avo off let the seed dry the outside skin. Makes it peel off in bigger bits
Thanks so much I just planted my baby
My roots are SO curly... I can't get them pointing down without potentially breaking them... Tips?
What if you did the same but in a jar? For the bag part
Ryan M not sure. haven’t tried it before. I think it would be slower but you can give it a go
I used Saran Wrap and rubber band to elevate my seed.
imma try again with avo
I confirm this! I have 2,5 babies:D one is still in bag but the root is showing :)
Can you link jars?
Soak the pit in water for an hours, the skin comes right off very easily
where do i have to stock the bag?
Fabiola Escalada Rivas anywhere but the fridge. I put mine in the pantry
Where we put after it grow
Where do you leave the bag after you put it in the paper towel?
mrodz52 I leave mine in the pantry
does it need to be a ziplock back? or could I just use a small plastic bag :)
Trying this ! 🥑🥑🥑🥑
Julia McDonald yay!
I am growing 7 avocado pits and a few of them are already starting to split.
I just did the opposite and did not peal put the toothpick method then put it in soil and now it’s three feet tall in six months
even with this method it can take a long time or not work. thats just mother nature just being mother nature. the toothpick can work 100% but the strike rate is a lot less :)
Sooooo my pip got a bit mouldy -_- it's been in the bag for about 15 days and nothing's happened. Is this normal?
Jade Christina was the skin peeled off?
@@bradcanning it was. I am attempting again, so fingers crossed it works out this time :)
Do you sell the plants that you propagate?!
Hiii I'm trying your method and it's working, but now I have to put the seed into the water and I don't know exactly where I should put it. Can you help me please? Ps. You're really cool 💕
Where did you find that light up banana 🍌?
Does the paper towel need to be replaced or moistened at all within those ten days?
I’m so excited to try this method!
I’ve tried the toothpick method and I have two pits that have cracked but it’s been 3 weeks 😭
Leana Wong hey! sorry for the late reply! it shouldn’t need to be wet again as the moisture in the bag keeps it damp but keep an eye on it 😄
Were should the ziplock bag stay?
sebelge I leave mine in the pantry
Definately trying this method, the toothpick method does work though, I’ve grown at least 5 avocados using toothpicks 🤷🏾♀️
okoko osisi awesome! yeah it does work but I personally found it worked very slowly and not every time but this method has a significantly higher strike rate in my experience 😁🥑🌱✨
How long did it take before it started bearing fruit (an avocado) to be eaten?
@@Lady-br3zy it will take anywhere between 5 to 15 years. And it may not even bear a fruit even after all that long
I got 6 of this now....
:))))))))))))
So after watching 3 🥑 seed starting/germination videos I realize ive done my seed wrong 😑 by not peeling off the skin. So ill be redoing it and trying both methods again.
yeah its super important!

But I will try Ur method
😍❤️
Did he closed/zip the ziplock bag?
Iliana Moreno sure did
ummm I just started 4 pips with the toothpick method and now I watch this😂
Do you use tap water to fill the vases. I'm hoping for an answer. But it looks like there's no paying attention to your older material. 😢
I think I planted mine upside down. :( the root is still growing though
