    I definitely think it is one of the most unique new laptops out there. The thing I respect about the Blade 16 is this time around both laptops get the same 330 watt power brick. I do believe the "Dual Mode" display is a gimmick though. You know that every LCD panel has a native resolution that is fixed by a grid of pixels. Dropping down in resolution can never look as good as native. I suppose it makes you reboot the laptop when you pick 1080p because it is doing some kind of image smoothing to make it look native when you restart.

    • @consumertechwarehouse
      @consumertechwarehouse  Рік тому +3

      That's right man. The pixels are already predefined. For some reason I was just hoping they found a way to still make it look native. It doesn't though. I think it would have been usable if the response time was fast enough to make 240 hz noticable. But it's not really. The faster response time does help though. I'm not sure why the restart is necessary to be honest. Maybe it is the smoothing like you mentioned and to switch it to 240 hz. BTW man. I keep forgetting to plug your channel. I always say I'm going to do it but then I get wrapped up with the filming, writing and all that other stuff and I never get a chance to. I will make a note next time.

      @@consumertechwarehouse I happen to believe the Blade 16 might have some kind of image scaler chip on the motherboard that performs basic image sharpening when you drop to fhd+ 240 hz. Why else does it force you to restart the laptop?

    Nice laptop. 40 series sure are beastly. An idea for you regarding latency. Perhaps rig up a shot so that you can see a controller and the screen, then film it in slow motion and push the button to shoot a weapon. When played back slowly, you can see the difference between the click and the action on screen.

      40 series beastly? If you have a laptop with 3070Ti/3080Ti the only sensible upgrade is a RTX 4090 laptop and these are stupidly expensive. CPU performance uplift is huge but I always disliked intel in laptops because of how hot, power hungry and inefficient they are. Not a single reason to upgrade a laptop unless you need that new i9 or ryzen 9 for some really demanding workloads.

    Great review! I just bought this exact laptop a few days ago. I’m still pulling myself off the floor at spending soooooo much money on a laptop. (Am I crazy???) I haven’t run it through its gaming paces yet, but so far the display is amazing just for normal use. I had previously tried an Asus Flow X16 2022 with mini-LED panel and this panel looks so much better with barely noticeable blooming. I haven’t seen Asus’ 2023 mini-LED panels though, maybe they improved them? I’m a tad underwhelmed at the speakers, but I’ve experienced the ones on the M1 MacBook Pro 14 and 16 and nothing in the PC world touches those. I don’t know why PC manufacturers can’t get this right. Compared to other windows laptops though, the Blade 16 speakers are very good. Just not compared to Apple. The only other issue I have with it is there is a tiny creak somewhere on the left side, which I’ve yet to pinpoint where it’s coming from. For $4300 that’s a bit disappointing TBH. I will keep running it through its paces though, unless something show stopping comes up, I will probably keep it, but we’ll see.

    • @consumertechwarehouse
      @consumertechwarehouse  Рік тому +1

      Hope it’s holding up well. I don’t have any creak on the left side. Maybe it’s a minor defect on yours? Could be software too. There were some THX updates that may have fixed some clicking or cracking sounds some folks were hearing. Also the razer’s mini led is way better than the scar

    • @shirokuro73
      @shirokuro73 Рік тому

      @@consumertechwarehouse I think the creak was something to do with how the bottom panel was attached. Maybe the screws were too tight or uneven. I opened the machine up to upgrade the SSDs and after putting it back together, no more creak!! Unfortunately I accidentally scratched the bottom panel with the screwdriver :-( It’s a tiny scratch though, you can only see it if you’re looking for it. I’ve since put a dbrand skin on the machine, so hopefully no more scratching! And yes, the panel on this thing is pretty much perfect!

      @@shirokuro73 that’s why I don’t open up any laptops on my channel. I don’t have a gentle hand and always cause some kind of damage. I ended up with a few more nicks on mine. But it doesn’t bother me.

      @@consumertechwarehouse I'm extremely careful opening and closing laptops, but accidents happen. The 4 screws on the front side of the bottom are angled and it's a bit of a pain to get them at the right angle. While screwing in one of those screws, my hand slipped and screeeeeeeech. I was still within the return period when it happened and was still debating back and forth on if I should swap it for a Scar, or even a Blade 18. But when I damaged it, that pretty much put paid to that idea. So I'm keeping it and so far, I'm happy with it.

    Great review. This video confirms that Mini LED is not that great. Yes, they come with great contrast and high nits but that flickering and blooming si horrible. I can't live with seeing that every day.
    I don't know why everyone is hungry for 1000 nits because i have a 300 nits IPS in my old 2018 MSI and most of the time i use 30 50 % of its brightness. If i set my maximum brightness to 100% it burns my eyes. Again, we talk about a 2018 MSI IPS panel with measured 297 nits.. Yes, outside i cant see too much, even at max brightness, but who plays games in direct sunlight? The most important spec for me in the display is the contrast and color accuracy, followed by Backlight Bleeding.My old MSI has 1410:1 contrast and the new 18 inch 2023 laptops have around 1000:1.. Seems like a BIG downgrade... Now about the new Razer: Looks like a nice device but the 18 inch 4080 is the one to get. Unfortunately that hey messed up the trackpad on this generation, you press it by accident and there are more people complaining about this. Cpu performance is not that much different compared to the 12 gen because the laptop is too small and its getting to hot. 4080 GPU is big update on all laptops this year. 4070 is just a 3070ti and not worth the price.. Razer 18 is a special device but way to expensive...Aourus17x with 4080 and Predator Helios 18 4080 is on my list, but i'm waiting for more reviews about the displays and thermal performance before I buy. (Internal Heat pipes of the Predator 18 looks like a sad joke as well, buy maybe the fans are good?. Who knows.. Scar 18 (non strix) had my attention, but everyone is complaining about the cheap build quality. I read good reviews on Reddit about Aourus17x build quality and thermals (it has 4 fans and vapor chamber) but it's only 17 inch :( I'll wait for more reviews I would be happy if you could test the Aourus 17x and Predator 18.

      90% of the people for some reason look only at the peak brightness. No sane person would run their screen at 500nits+ all the time unless they’re outside or want to burn their eyes. My G8 OLED and Blade 15 OLED are bright enough for indoor usage at 70% brightness and get even brighter with HDR, colors are amazing, blacks are perfect, no blooming, no ghosting, it would be a perfect panel if burn-in risk was eliminated completely.

    Blooming isn't the only potential issue. Is there loss of detail with small highlights--e.g., a starfield? Or the dimming of a line of white text on a black background? The answer to both questions is a resounding YES. And that's a big thumbs-down from me.

      Yeah I mentioned there's some issues with micro contrast and that it can't even pick up the small squares on the HDR Calibration app. After using it next to my many OLED screens, tv, monitor, and phone I found that the brightness gives a real HDR contrasty punch that OLEDs just can't produce yet. When you move your mouse cursor over a dark area on the screen (for example one of the black areas on the default wallpaper) does it become noticeably dimmer? Or, for example, opening the Windows Security app and clicking into a sub-category like the Account Protection screen, does the white text "fade away" in spots? I see both of these on mine and I'm trying to figure out if I'm just seeing what everyone else is seeing or if my screen might be defective. (On a positive side I used to see the same issue in the HDR Calibration as you show in the video but something recently fixed that - I think maybe an Intel driver update, but I'm not sure exactly.) In my opinion, I was drawn to the Blade for its look. I have been researching a laptop for a year, the bad thing about the Blade that I have seen from last year and this year's model is the little details. The first thing is fingerprints to me if I'm going to use it every day every hr every min I feel is going to look like a mess with fingerprinters all over, yes you can clean it but Damm I'm sure I'm going to get annoyed trying to clean it all the time for years to come. 2nd seems like the laptop is very sensitive to getting scratched/damage, me personally if I'm going to waste 4,5 or 6gs for a high-end laptop I don't want to think I need to be careful speciallysomething that costs $$$$. 3rd I feel the mouse tap is huge, to me it overkills the look it stands out too much, they should have kept it in medium size. 4th is missing number pads which takes away from how a laptop should look, yes you can buy a number pad on the side but why should we when your paying close to 5 to 6,000 for this laptop ( including warranty, tax, and shipping that's how much you would be paying in the end of the day). Performance I think regardless you would get what you pay for, but you can get same Performance or just a tiny less in other laptops for a way cheaper price. So my summary yes regardless Performance wise Blade is really good you can't go wrong, but details are a big factor to many of us and those are my details Cons. Hope this helps anyone looking for a laptop as my self, if you guys want to know what my year of searching outcome is, I'm thinking of buying the Msi Titan gt 77, I feel for me is the perfect fit for my casual use. 🙂🙃

      The fingerprints are pretty bad but not as bad as it did on camera. I personally don't think those are deal breakers from using the blade for years now. The only thing that you're really missing here is the lower CPU performance and it kind of sucks when playing competitive games. Especially now that it's getting hotter here in FL. Thanks man. I would love to get my hands on a GT77. The only way I would do it is if I could get a maxed out variant. So I'm looking out for that

    • @killerra

      Thing about the GT77 is it isn't built like a $5k laptop. Thing should be a unibody design or at least completely all high quality metal for that price, but MSI is using the same toy like build quality the Titan class has always had while increasing the price.

      I agree with your issue on the fingerprints and chips, razer should offer a white color, but that would ruin the ascetics as the color is meant to show off the logo, and you will have brighter RGB effects.
      But I disagree on the number-pad, they are basically useless because you have a top number row. And trackpad’s have grown in size.

Right now I am studying animation so display is pretty much essential for me since i have to draw and color. And could you please tell me about how RB's service quality is, I mean they and infamous for their customer service, is it still like that and how has their laptop had so many issues (I don't want to spend my money on something that bites me back)... A lot of the issues you're seeing with razer is for older devices. Their newer ones hold up well. That being said, when you have issues, dealing with razer is a pain and it could take a while to get service and replacements. If you're really worried, buy it from adorama or best buy and sign up for their warranty or total tech through best buy or Adorama's VIP program. I have links on the description of the video
