This was so well-made and informative! I can't believe you only have 2.38K subscribers. This channel deserves more.
How does this high quality hands on with display tech comparison have only 20 views??
Keep up the good work and thanks for the video!
Quality content! Been looking for a comparison between the mini led display vs ips panel and couldn’t find it for days. Great review!
THIS IS EXACTLY the video I need it! Thanks you man! You have won a subscriber with me today!
Great music in the video, great video sir! Subbed and thumbs up! I purchased the 4060 model 16, comes next week, can’t wait! I always wanted a razer laptop was the price always shied me away but screw it I went for it!!! Wish me luck!
Thanks for the comparison bro, Ive been searching for ages
Thanks for this video! It was really informative! Just ordered a Blade 16 today!
Nice visual review. Thanks!
Great review. Lots to look forward to with this year's Razer Blades. I'm really curious about how well this particular Blade's performance compares to last year's Blade 17 with a 3080Ti in it. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I'm pretty excited about the 2023 offerings! The 17 w/ the 3080Ti averages about 15500 in 3DMark's
Firestrike Extreme (most testers seem to opt for the "Extreme" benchmark). I just ran the Firestrike Extreme on my 16 and it got a 21505.
@@TheStockpile thanks for checking. Lots of good performance all around! Will definitely keep my eye out for this model and maybe pick it up later this year.
I wish there was a 1600p Mini-led option. 4k on a 16 inch screen seems like overkill, but I’ve also heard that the 1080p mode isn’t exactly sharp.
Man, I'm a fan of MiniLED but I can't see it being better than the 240Hz OLED. OLED has faster response times, faster grey-to-grey transition, higher contrast, pure black colors, and none of the halo effect of localized dimming in miniLED displays. That being said, miniLED is getting closer and it's a definite improvement over standard LED LCDs, and it doesn't have the potential burn-in that OLED does, which is obviously its main selling point vs OLED.
Edit: great backing music. Well done video.
I wouldn't say the MiniLED is better, per se. I was just blown away with how good it *is*
MiniLED in laptops right now is usually about three-four times brighter than OLED displays with no risk of burn-in which is a big consideration when there’s so many static UI elements in Windows. But yeah OLEDs are still a bit better.
Like how you review. No one does that, especially the screen competition.
Awesome video! That music gave me the Interstellar vibe
Thanks for posting this. I too have been looking for more information / reviews on this exact model and will most likely make the purchase now. It checks many of the options I am looking for including being able to game with my buddies while traveling. Watching HDR content on the go isn't such a bad thing either. My home monitor is the Asus PG32UQX and seems very similar to this setup, while being protable. Enabling that HDR option is Windows is the ticket. Good Stuff!
Why such music? I felt like I was watching Interstellar...
I wish more UA-camrs could implement this! Stop with ear rapping music in intro and outdo!
banging video, well done
Lot of good tips ty
Love the video. The song so emotional 🥲
Razer is an emotional company. Their products can make people cry tears of joy AND pain.
Nice and fast review. Been waiting for it ever since the announcement of this laptop. Could you do a 3d mark time spy test as there are plenty of data about other 4090 laptops tested using time spy for better comparison? I also really care about the palm thermal issue, especially under loaded test. I think you mentioned it but very quick, not so sure about that.
Just for the sake of science I ran Time Spy on my laptop. 19136 for me (just a stock run- no overclocking). This seems like a good resource too: www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/111supb/razer_16_4090_updated_scores/
I love the comparison. Been eyeing the 15 OLED '22 for a looong time now, and finally have enough to pick one up. Should I get it, or should I save a little more for the new '16 LED screen? I want to be able to run Cyberpunk on Ultra, and do decent, Blender 3D work. i have also been eyeing the new Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14-inch OLED. Your advice would be highly appreciated.
At this super expensive laptop price point who get the mini LED is the right choice that oled will burning dead spot at the end
Hallo friend :)
Thank you so much for an awesome review :)
May i ask which type (serial number ) of the blade 15 you have ? Every 15 version i saw had that ugly plastic chin under the display.Your doesnt have it.Or m i blind ? o.O
And if so is it because of glossy type of a display ? Because if so i would rather go for 15 version because it is not as thick as 16 version.
Thanks for answer and have a nice day :)
What an amazing review! Mine is about to ship with this exact model and not only was it a great review, you gave great tips!
Just don't forget that Razer has the notorious problem with low quality batteries. They bloat on almost every unit, which is a fire hazard if not taken care of in time.
@@benjaminabel I went with razer this year because they expanded the chassis so much. A ton more room to breath for the unit and lower temps are being reported across the board
@@brandonsargent7105 I hope that's the case. I decided to stay away just because it's the same story every year. I hope yours will have zero problems!
@@benjaminabel Razer added an option in Synapse to stop charging the battery at 80%. If you *primarily* use your laptop plugged in this is a good option to use- it will definitely help prevent the bloating.
how true when u said " almost feels like we should have waited", that's relatable hahaha
If you turn on HDR you will be amazed at how bright this thing gets. The first time I switched to HDR I understood the 1600nit max brightness that I read about in other reviews.
Yes, 100%. I pinned a comment related to HDR. Also, for anyone interested: When using HDR on the Razer 16, there seems to be an auto dimming malfunction. More on that in another video perhaps.
why all miniled laptop screen has yellowish white instead of cold white ? i dont like warm color tone on my aero 17 miniled
I thinking to buy one, is display quality about Mac book?
Also, I much preferred my Blade with the Gorilla Glass display. The glossiness produced a sharper picture with more vibrant colors than you get on these matte displays, and the glass added rigidity to the chassis. I hate that they got rid of that option. It really put the build quality nearly on par with Apple's MacBook Pro, and removing that is a step back.
It all comes down to preference I guess. I have a MacBook and hate the glossy screen, but I grew up using matte screens for the most part. The glossy screen adds way to much reflection in public, which is where a laptop is taken a lot of the time.
@@trvnq it doesn't "add" reflection. It's not like light avoids your laptop. It comes down to how the reflections are treated. On glossy screens they're more acute over a smaller space. On matte screens they're dispersed over a wider area. For me, I've had laptops and phone screen protectors where this washes out like 3/4 of the display. You can even see it in this video. But the best screens are the MacBooks which have an anti-reflection costing plus glass. The dispersion isn't as bad as regular matte screens so you don't get blown out colors, and you get glossy vividness without reflections that are as strong as uncoated options.
It's definitely a preference thing. I have so much going on in my office at this point that the reflections are overwhelming. I really prefer the matt screen and I don't personally feel like much sharpness gets lost with the 16 screen.
Love the review....... I have a question regarding the storage on this device as I've seen it partitioned at 900+GB twice in your review...... So is it both slots occupied as in 1tb on both of them or is it 2tb on one slot and empty on the other slot?
Thank you for this wonderful review
Nice review 🙂👍
How are you liking your blade 16? I just ordered the same model. It will be my first blade laptop. You mentioned you have had a bunch of blades. How have they been treating you? Many issues?
The Blade 16 has been fairly good. No major issues. Definitely a few little quirks, but overall I think it's a great laptop.
@@TheStockpile would you say the Blade 18 can be better in thermal an overall performance? or not much
Is FHD mode resolution is as sharp as a native FHD? Some says blade 16 native resolution is 4K, once switched to FHD you can feel the blurry image...
Great comparison. I've been trying to decide between the Blade 15 OLED and the Blade 16 Mini LED. Given that the Blade 15 OLED is $1,100 off right now, it seems like a winner. Many Mini-LED reviewers have noticed an uneven brightness between dimming zones creating a blotchy effect, mostly on gray backgrounds. With Asus releasing 16" OLED creator laptops with 3200 x 2000 @120 Hz, maybe Razer will add one next year.
Very good content, you're the first one to review this on UA-cam as far as I can tell. You should get some good gaming benchmarks on the 1080p mode, that's gonna be fun. It should perform close to the desktop 4090's on say a widescreen display or something of higher resolution. Of course so will all the other 4090 laptops if you have them on 1080p, but this seems to be the best size and screen type for that available right now (too bad it's so pricey.) Also, you should stop taking Ambien, take more vitamins, especially vitamin D, and get off of pharmaceuticals (safely.) A healthy diet, reading, and exercise will do more for your spirit and health than any drug, and it makes games more fun as a relaxing downtime.
I imagine this laptop is a gaming beast in 1080p, although I'm not much of a gamer these days.
Long term it *is* probably best to get off pharmaceuticals like Zolpidem and I absolutely agree about healthy eating & exercise 💪🏼
@@TheStockpile Reading is actually really good for the mind and body too, and burns a lot of calories that people don't realize. Just think about how many fat bookworms you know. Not many. Also, most of the time when I find I'm sick of gaming it's because I need more mental stimulation, and reading does that, then when I game again I'm more engaged and relaxed at the same time.
It won't come close to desktop 4090, it was shown to be up to 50% faster in all regards.
@@joseseverino4078 I was comparing this on 1080p to a 4090 at at say 2k or 4k, not at the same resolution.
the 4090 option is not available might have to go for the 4080 will there be a big difference?
I also have a razer oled 15 2080 super, grabbing the new 16 mini led 4090 as well
very calming
Excellent comparison. Mini led looks good, if it had a glossy finish it would have been so much better in my opinion.
hows da battery life inn fhd mode like wathing video or normal work
Hello,
Have you tried running programs such as Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, or any particular productivity/content creation apps on your Razer Blade 16 without charger plugged in? If so, how does it perform?
It all depends on your power settings. The laptop can run Adobe programs just as fast on its battery. I think what you're asking is how well it runs Abobe programs with it's performance settings *reduced*. I'll have to report back on that!
Thank you for the video. I would also like to hear how is coil whine from screen? Many HDR screens have that
Can you check something for me? On my Razer 16" Mini-led there is a shadow on all sides and corners when displaying a bright white or light background. I believe the MBP also has this issue. Mind putting up a bright, white, full screen background and letting me know what you see? Thanks!
Very good review
One of those usb c ports is a thunderbolt 4, making it possible to use an external GPU later in the future or other things.
I love 14 inches, I add a monitor 99% of the time I work, sometimes on a train or something, I might want to work more but I wouldn't imagine anything larger than 15.6. It would need to be thin and light and yet at least with entry level dedicated gfx.
I like the new Razer 16 but the Oled on the 15 looks more crisp !
Finally thank you idk why razerblade 16 reviews are so hard to find everyone is buying the 18,i think 18 in is a bit too big for me 😅
Aaand... "subscribe". Really nice review, sir.
What's been your experience with swollen batteries owning so many Razer laptops? I own the 15" 2019 2080 which I had to replace the battery on after it got so swollen that I couldn't even press down on the touchpad anymore. I've been thinking about the 4090 16" and use it as a desktop replacement with a docking station, clamshell mode vertical stand style. However, I'm not sure how the battery would handle that.
Had a battery in my 17 Pro bloat really badly. Other than that I have not experienced any battery issues. On the 16 I would expect even fewer issues as they seem to have got some of the heat issues sorted out.
I believe that it's partly due to a design issue with Razer laptops being extremely slim with a metal chassis that spreads that heat down to the area where the battery is housed. I also have Asus, Alienware and Lenovo laptops (don't ask, it's an expensive addiction)...all of them can get hot to the touch above the keyboard, but only my Blade gets fairly warm below it. The good news is that this year's models seem to run a bit cooler and Razer extended their battery warranty coverage to two years in 2022.
On a side note, if you use it the way you plan, I would just take out the battery since you'd be plugged in all the time. Problem solved.
I am just debating if its worth paying 600USD more for a 4090 over a 4080, I am getting a XMG though not a razor.
Is there any setting to remap power button? Switch between Del and Power for example, or disable it?
I'm not sure if the power button can be remapped but here's their guide for remapping: mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5569/~/how-to-remap-keys-or-buttons-on-a-razer-laptop%2C-keyboard%2C-or-mouse
Great video! Yes, I think what’s impacting the contrast is that matte display. I know the reflections on glossy displays can be a distraction, but it’s a trade-off for that amazing contrast and wet colors that you get. That’s what I love about Apple laptops. Although I am a PC gamer, so I’m always chasin that RTX!
Thinking about getting this. Would've gone with 18 if it had mini LED like this. My only concern is thermal with intense gaming.
Can you please tell me the name of that music in the background it’s very relaxing!
I wonder why are no touchscreen RTX 4000 series laptops out there.
Only my opinion, but I don't think touchscreen are used much on laptops like these.
razer are good laptops i got the razer blade 15 and its good but the major problem is that i got bloated battery after about a year and after changing the battery, the battery life barely passes 2 hours so that has led me down a bit so now i decided to get the gigabyte aero 16 rtx 4070 with i9-13900h
heads up warning, I cracked my 15 advanced 4k touch screen corner, sent off to get repaired by insurance... Razer have no screen stock to fix them or laptops to replace them. So look after your machines!
How's the idle fan noise? I've got one too and the only issue I have with it are the fan startup and shutdown noise. It's sounds like a milk float! When the fans are higher speed it's fine just at the lowest idle speed and when spinning up/down.
The only other negative I can think of is at min brightness the mini-LED zones are very obvious, so much so as to make it pretty much unusable.
Other than that it is an incredible laptop, the thing that impresses me most is the performance you can get in the balanced mode which is really quiet considering only losing ~10% performance. Especially if you undervolt the CPU and CPU!
I hadn't noticed the start up / shut down noise. Idle fan noise comparable to other models- sort of a quiet hum. I work in a room with a bigger fan so it's not something I hear.
@@TheStockpile Thanks that's good to hear, sounds like I might have some defective fan motos/bearings, I have an RMA started at the moment though it;s going through the Razer customer support quagmire at the moment!
@@helmhammered I hope it gets sorted out for you. I poked around a bit at my screen and don't have any obvious mini-LED zones. HOWEVER! After a few days of use I will say that the Razer 16 is a *hot mess*. Synapse is perpetually crashing. Enabling HDR caused the 16 to start auto dimming the screen with no solution (i.e. Display settings, battery settings, Intel Command center- all ignored). Eventually the 16 started to malfunction and was performing so poorly that it couldn't even stream UA-cam content. I reinstalled Windows 11 last night and it seems to be much happier.
Got my 4090, seems the mini-led is not so accurate for the back lighting. Example, my mouse pointer looks daker where in the black area. Also, there are darker back light at the 4 edges of the screen.
But it is great for the movies, videos and gaming, the color is vivid.
I think I know what you're saying. The backlighting along the edges seems to be the actual viewing angle of the display. Move your head in front of the edges and they will lighten up. Not impressed by the angle viewing on the laptop. Still, this is a solid unit.
Revolutionary
I just don’t really get this display, the 4k 120hz is great but the 240hz 1080p makes no sense, the second mode should have been 240hz qhd or 360hz fhd. I’ve got with the scar 16 because of that.
I'd say the 180p mode is a gimmick. That's the only resolution that can really be offered. UHD / 4 = 1080p (more or less). But if you really care about FPS and screen refresh rates it's a functional gimmick.
Can we buy those skins separetly ?
Yes: www.razer.com/gaming-laptops-skin/Razer-Blade-16-Skin/RC21-01978501-0000
Can we call the 4090 what it is? Its a 4080. The 1080 and 2080/2080s were correctly called their named. Not the 3080/ti and ''4090''.
Otherwise have fun buying a 5070 called a 5090ti next gen for even more money.
@@TheStockpile Do you remember the blade 17 with the gtx 1080? Despite being heavily throttled and overheating, it was within 13% of the desktop 1080. Meanwhile well cooled gtx 1080 laptops were within 5% of the desktop 1080.
And look at where we are now. ''4090'' is 50% slower.
can you check the battery situation for normal usage. As well as the screen brightness. it should be double the Razer15
@@TheStockpile thank you, I just want to know which one is better for less power consumption that fits normal users like us. Btw, your Hue videos were the ones that made me change the lighting in my house 3 years ago😅
@@dav171991 Screen brightness definitely isn't double the 15 (at least not the OLED). Also, enabling HDR content on the 16 has caused all sorts of problems. I did a Windows 11 reinstallation last night so I'm hoping I'll be able to use this thing soon and I can run some more tests. Hue lights FTW!! 🤙🏽
@@TheStockpile Do you think that the mini led option worth it at this point? I am consider it only for the brightness.
@@TheStockpile To be honest, I am between getting the 4060 model and the 4070 mini led but I want to know whether the brightness worth it for using it outside your house. I think the difference is about 1k CAD. Most likely I am going to use it at 1920x1200 resolution anyways to save on battery but I would like to hear more about the brightness for screen. My main use is to code and run some designing application. No real gaming or anything that may require an extra ordinary GPU
cant decide over the legion pro 7i, the acer predator and the eluktronics mech 16 now...
seriously dont understand why they dont come out with numpad. even 17' inch im using no numpads.
Only speaking for myself here: I don't see any value in having a number pad.
I've watched a lot of Razer Blade videos through the years and one prevalent comment is that, "Razer computers are not reliable, and have bloated battery issues". Since you have been so loyal to the brand and have plenty of experience with their laptops, Do you think those comments are factual or just gossip? Maybe from people that enjoy trashing the brand because they can't afford it.🤔
I am very curious about this issue as well. Im on the verge of selection my 4090 laptop, and opt for the Blade 16. However lots of bad reviews when it comes to reliability and service for Razer. Anyone able to help?
I am very loyal to the brand and, all told, my experience has been mostly positive. I did have to have warranty work done on a 14 years ago- that was smooth. My 17 Pro had a bloated battery issue, a RAID drive problem and eventually stopped working (although at that point we didn't really use it). Many of my laptops have had some small issue- a rubbing fan, a driver problem- little stuff that, frankly, laptops from other manufacturers have. However ,*all told* I've found my Razer products to be robust and reliable. That is my personal experience. I've used my 2021 Razer 15 daily without any problems. I am aware of the concerns about reliability but I tend to to think people's expectations of Razer are simply higher so when failures happen - and they definitely do - it's a bigger deal.

You should turn on the hdr in windows 11 before playing these hdr youtube vido, I have the same blade 16 model and turn on hdr in windows is gonna make a big difference, the brightness will be way higher
Yes, this is a good call. I pinned a comment related to HDR. Also, enabling HDR has caused all kind of problems on the Razer 16. Hopefully I can address those in the future video.
It already looks pretty close but would you say the blade looks closer to oled with the hdr on or more washed out?@@TheStockpile

A quick note on HDR, since many people have mentioned it- The HDR setting on the 16 absolutely makes the display brighter- it's not something that can even be filmed accurately. However, using the HDR setting blows out colors to the point that contrast is lost in color rich environments. In some cases, HDR can cause screens to look dimmer and lose saturation as well. If anyone is experiencing this, here is a helpful article about the issue and its solution: www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000035037/graphics.html
I would love to hear an update after 2 weeks from you
