    Hands down the XJ is the best factory built jeep

    My two favorite off roaders. I wish I could decide between them. I love the extra storage space in the XJ, but the convertible top on the TJ is great. And both are SO capable!

      Absolutely, if there was a perfect world I want the Xj wheelbase on a tj frame lol but yes love how practical the XJ is. Very capable 🙏🍻

    Watching this brings back so many memories! I recently traded my Tacoma TRD Pro for a Tundra (needed more towing) and now am looking for a second smaller trail rig. I have owned 3 XJ a 98 TJ, a few CJ a Commando, J10 and 65 Wagoneer. I was looking at a newer JK but after reading so many stories of engine problems and the extra weight, size , cost and intrusive electronics I find myself looking at the XJ or TJ rigs again. It is funny, when I started wheeling NOBODY wanted the XJ ha ha ha, you could buy a clean one with low miles for a grand, now a clean rust free one with 130k will fetch 10k or more. I really appreciate your video as it shows them side by side, with capable trail mods. Oh and just want to mention, that dog looks like its having the time of its life ha ha.

      Nice 👍🏼 that’s an awesome fleet of Jeeps you have been through, what jeep do you think was your most favorite? XJ and TJs are always great choices, but I’ve actually begun to considered buying a2dr jk rubicon. They are dropping in price and IMO the best years of 3.6 pentastar (2015-17) they are pretty reliable engines and the transmissions are great. They just need to be properly maintained. That’s probably what I would buy as I’m not really interested in the newer pentastar engines, I like the jl looks but they added the egr cooler and changed the rocker design on that engine so when one fails is sure to destroy the cam. Just my though if i were to buy a newer wrangler thats probably where I’d look but will see lol thanks for watching i appreciate it. 🍻

      @@ATEMOFFROAD Favorite had to be the XJ for the utility, good size and storage and a bit more relaxing on the freeway.... but my TJ was easier to work on and much more reliable than all three XJ ha ha ha. Most the older stuff were just toys or projects, the Commando and J10 were pretty usable but not much fun to daily for highway. I appreciate the advice on the JK, I have looked at them quite a bit, I watched your repair video on the ticking fix. Dosnt seem to over complicated, considering the creature comforts and drivability do you think it is more of a 50/50 rig than a TJ? Looking specifically at 2 doors also.

      @Scablands_Scavenger i agree the XJ is it period. I really want a 97 or newer though, but I did love my 87. I’m actually looking to import a RHD from Australia, the market is much cheaper and they have the diesel turbos there. Still working out the bugs with shipping but with the help of a friend we are finding XJs pop up for as low as 1k US there. Jk is 50/50 one other thing about the 2dr jkr is the front axle is not split shaft with disconnect, like on the JL that can be another weak point up front and all jeeps 2018 and up even the gladiator has it. It’s just another thing to upgrade. which is unnecessary on the JK. But personally if I wanted another wrangler it would be 04-06 tj rubicon 4.0l I’d go that route over the jk, they are getting really overpriced and because of that somewhat rare, especially one that’s not all cut up. But every once in awhile one pops up and I’m too slow to pick it up. 🍻

    I love the xj. AMC was the best time for them. I had one root beer brown manual transmission. Lost it wheeling in the snow like 20 years ago. Fell through ice and sank in a 5’ deep water hole. I’ve never wheeled in the winter again after that.

    That TJ is looking good, even with that sweet XJ bringing up the rear.
    I run a E locker in the front and posi in the rear. Front E locker has always worked better than a rear locker in my experience. Never had any luck with only a rear locker.

    i could be wrong but it seems like you guys need lower gears. It looks like you are struggling somewhat to keep a smooth consistent momentum going into the obstacles. IDK, but it might be worth looking into. I had a JEEP JK Rubicon. It had 4.10s and I ran up to 37s no problem. I also had an early bronco with 4.56s and 35s and it was perfect with a granny low 4spd tranny. Sure makes wheeling nice and smooth.

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  10 місяців тому +2

      Yes both Jeeps can definitely use a set of gears , just keep in mind both are 5 speed manual trans, so things will look a bit different from Automatic in some cases a lot. Plus driver in the XJ is new has never offroad before. 🍻
