We had a 23 frontier was a great solid truck. Not surprised about the results in this video, Toyota put a lot of money into this truck, more than i would say Nissan did for the Frontier. Can't go wrong with either though. Both are awesome and owners of both i would imagine are very happy with their purchase (maybe less for the Taco considering the prices :D)
The Tacoma hands down has better articulation, but you each took two different lines in that last obstacle. Both you and the Jeep put your passenger front tires in the deepest part of the hole (in the water). The Tacoma put that same tire upslope from that hole. His passenger side front end never dipped down because the tire was upslope and so the driver side rear end didn't have to lift very far. Once again, he does have better articulation, but that last obstacle was an apples to oranges comparison.
Wow! Just came back from an offroad trip and camp out with a group of friends here in California through Big Bear, down Rattlesnake Canyon to Johnson Valley, through the high desert and then to Cleghorn 4x4 trail. Our boy with his 24 Frontier Pro 4x was struggling BAD on these tight, exposed and endless trails and switch backs. We all found out just how bad his trucks turning radius and heavy steering is on the trails, and we had to save his truck more than once using straps and even one of our winches so he wouldn't get it stuck or die. We were so glad it wasn't heavily modified or else, who TF knows how much worse it would have been with a lift, larger tires and more weight and such. It was the only truck that we had to stop for regularly and get out and guide, just so he could make a simple switch back. 🤦🏾♂️ He's only had it for a month and after his ordeal this past long 4th of July pre weekend, he already made up his mind and is going back to a 3rd gen Tacoma lol! He literally traded his 19 Tacoma TRD pro for it and is now kicking himself for doing so. Long story short: the frontier is not trail friendly and I would recommend that you NEVER go solo on some isolated and potentially dangerous or advanced trails. I go solo on my Taco all the time with my kids and lady, but wouldn't do the same on a frontier. I guess I love my family too much. Also, he tore the F out of the back sides of the rear seat back rests folded down, since they are lined with weak cloth, after putting his fridge and some other materials that he would carry on his Tacoma for the trip lol! How TF you don't line them with hard materials like the Taco and other trucks?
thanks for watching buddy and thanks for the comment. I will say it is well known and I will 1000% agree the turning radius on any Frontier at awful, that’s for sure..
I used to drive frontiers off a cargo ship . They were always a pain in the ass because the turning radius was so bad compared to the other vehicles . The ship has very tight turns to get onto the ramps to exit . I would’ve figured the newer frontiers had a better turn radius

Nice vid!. The Jeep with straights will still be best off road, better lockers, no requirement for 4lo lockers too. Colorado ZR2 or trail boss is also pretty appealing if off-road is your thing. I'm not a fan of the way Toyota designs their A.D.D actuator with the "fused failure point" in the passenger side front axle...no thanks :). Previous gen had the same issue as the TFL truck.
On that last area of the trucks driving back and forth, the Tacoma takes a different line than the Frontier, making it look like the Tacoma performed with less wheel lift. The Tacoma still has great articulation from stock, but I don’t think it out performed any one’s rig. Plus, that Tacoma had me cringing with those side steps. While I own and love my Tacoma’s, I don’t really consider one manufacturers platform completely superior to another’s. Impressive performance. Taco's ATRAC seems much improved. The fact that you can get Pro-4X in my area for less $$ than an SR5 still makes the Frontier a better buy. Use the remainder for boog sug.

They're not really recovery hooks. Two square plates with a hole in the middle. It's great being a Frontier fanboy these days. 😂
Obligatory booger sugar. Also, I don't think that gladiator had his front sway bar disconnected. When I go off road, I take a 19 mm socket and 3/4" wrench with me. With my cordless Ryobi electric rachet, it takes me about 1 minute to disconnect and then zip tie those bad boys up out of the way. Gives way more flex. Hope that Taco lasts. The new ones don't seem super durable (Truck King had a clutch blow, and TFL blew their front diff). Still love the simplicity of a Frontier. Do they make long travel kits for it?
Toyota will fix the issues. Every company will have them with new manufacturers on new model releases. They will make the parts even stronger than the competition. Toyota is the largest company.
I’m a JT fanboy, but I’m pretty sure this JT didn’t disconnect his front sway bars. Disconnecting the front sway bar allows for a lot of articulation on Jeeps.

@@4wdAdventurz You keep having fun....trying to decide if I need a Frontier in my life...seeing as how capable they are (thanks to you)....is making it easier for me....
Booger sugar. Haha Would you rather have a 2024 Taco? Or do you like the frontier better? I wish they still offered the frontier in a manual! If that was the case I’d already own one. I’m torn between the frontier and new taco. I would be getting the manual if I went taco though.
You would. Everything so much more basic and easy to use (and fix). For me, that's huge. And you can get a top trim Pro4x for $20k less then a TRD Pro. 😳
I gotta say If you want better suspension performance, I would look into a titan swap. My 16 became a different truck when I did it. Turning circle gets tighter too.
For what I do, the articulation I currently have is sufficient. I have been thinking about doing it Titan Swap on top of the drop bracket lift. Just a lot of money for 3 inches of travel. Lol
@@4wdAdventurz Hey, you can do quite a bit with 3 inches. But I know where you're coming from. I will say though that the added track width helps quite a bit in the stability department. Dollar for dollar, you're getting further on the trail if you add traction add mechanical lockers instead of the suspension. But The truck becomes much more fun to live with with a titan swap.
Only 2 broke out of 54,000 produced. People need to stop being so dramatic over a .00000081% failure rate. In a year, nobody will ever talk about it. Toyota will be king again. Nissan has their issues. GM has them. Ford has them. They all do. Especially when you take them off road. Things do break.

Couldn’t give me a new Tacoma over my 24 Frontier. I don’t run my vehicles this way at this point in my life. I’d be dead and buried before I’d own a four cylinder turbo midsize truck.
If it was a v12 instead but with half the power would that be better? Don't see the issue with the engine besides gloating to your buddies "oh yeah she's a v8 hehe" if it makes the same to even more power with better metrics overall
Idk why all the hate on Toyota from you when all they are doing is slowly complying with government regulations set forth for all automakers, just as other brands have already done and are still doing. All new iterations of all midsize trucks in the USA will be going to turbo 4(or other, i.e., diesels, hybrids and even EVs)due to tighter emission and fuel consumption regulations(most already are and/or are no longer V6 powered) . This includes Nissan, after they move from this current generation Frontier to the next. Just like the 3rd gen Taco and current 4runner, it will be the last of its kind, so all your sh*t talking towards the new Taco is for nothing. Most full size trucks are already following that path as well, and are discontinuing their respective v8 powerplants. This Nissan is nothing special and already pretty dated. Not a bad truck at all, just like a 3rd gen Tacoma is also not bad at all.

That Tacoma doesn't look "stock". First the wheels are sticking out the fenders like 2", so either those wheels or spacers. And did it look like it was sitting kinda high for an SR5? Plus, I bet that particular lift on the frontier isn't helping it off-road any, except maybe in height/clearance. If you're going to be wheelin' often, a free 5 min deal, remove the rear sway bar.

thanks for the comment, buddy! These are all great trucks. Like you said, just comes down to what you’re using the truck for in order to pick the right truck lift that’s right for you.
thanks for watching!
Buy what you like. That is all that matters. As for longevity when the new taco gets around 100000 miles we can talk about that then 😂
Guy in the jeep needs to disconnect his front sway bar
Those sounds that the Toyota make when the ATRAC system starts to work make me feel unease. It sounds like it’s shocks the front differential system.
Yes! Haha. I was like wtf when I first heard it.
ATRAC has been around for 20 years now... it sounds dramatic but it works! These new generations are a bit quieter
May be better off road, but the frontier is nicer/better value in every other aspect. I originally wanted a taco...until I drove the frontier
100%
The frontier doesn't do anything better than a Tacoma. Is just a better value. That's it
@@matthewserna7475 yeah I would agree with that.
Booger Sugar!! That is AWESOME...subscribing now just for that.
😂 thanks buddy
@@4wdAdventurz You keep having fun....trying to decide if I need a Frontier in my life...seeing as how capable they are (thanks to you)....is making it easier for me....
Which trim is the Tacoma? I don’t see any TRD stickers.
SR5
I been wondering what mods do you have on the frontier ??
suspension wise it’s a 6 inch lift on 35s
Booger sugar. Haha
Would you rather have a 2024 Taco? Or do you like the frontier better? I wish they still offered the frontier in a manual! If that was the case I’d already own one. I’m torn between the frontier and new taco. I would be getting the manual if I went taco though.
I'd stay frontier. Honestly, I just don't think they are worth the money. Great trucks but over priced.
booger sugar! Your Nissan is nice, man! I think i'd like one over a Tacoma based on price, but still on the fence
You would. Everything so much more basic and easy to use (and fix). For me, that's huge. And you can get a top trim Pro4x for $20k less then a TRD Pro. 😳
Drove a new frontier for a week on vacation and thought it hadn't been updated since year 2015 or 2016
The exteriors I think look great. The interiors, however, definitely lack imagination.
@@joma13344 locker is next on the list. I’m honestly not against removing the whole 6” kit and doing a Tswap

😂 what do you mean!? I killed every obstacle..
Should have told us about your Frontier for those who are new to your channel!! awsome vid tho
Yes! Your not the first person to say this. Next video, I definitely will. Thanks for watching!
Booger Sugar!
$39,000 for a base SR5??? Wow. But it didnt break like was seen in a couple other vids from other channels.
@ryanb8736 2 broke of the very few filned on UA-cam videos.
A very HIGH %.
Do you really think none of the other 1000s on the road haven't broke?
Really?
@@whodey59 Only reports we have from corporate and dealer networks are a few transmission temperatures are running a little hot. So corporate has the team on it to replace the transmission coolers with big ones.
Everyone is blowing it way out of proportion. It happens all the time in the beginning on new models. In a year, nobody will remember it. That’s how online culture is. It’s all a fad.
Also the ones to keep complaining are the one who won’t even buy one anyway. It’s their way of having satisfaction because they can’t afford it.
One of the main reasons I wanted to make a video like this..I feel like there were getting a bad rap. Had to see it myself..
I like my engine parts on the inside of my engine LOL
😂😂😂
Frontier pro4x has a 54:1 crawl ratio and the Tacoma trd pro has a 40:1 crawl ratio.
I honestly don’t know what that means, I have a 24 frontier 4x4 and haven’t tested it yet off road.
@@martbrown2775 it’s the ratio of torque at the wheels of your truck at your engines flywheel. This is in 4LO and in this instance it’s really when you’re crawling over an obstacle at a slow speed but getting as much torque to all the wheels as possible. This is also applied for towing. The higher the ratio the better it will perform really.
Seems like that Frontier has an issue with front end articulation. Need to disconnect the front sway bar and possibly add a larger rear sway bar to push more of the work onto the front end.
Rough country is the issue.
@@JakeWashatka Maybe partially. IDK how their shocks are setup in the front.
@@Jay-me7gw Hundo p the issue. Basically stock travel which sucks on the Nissan front End. Really should titan swap it and it’ll be a whole new truck.
@@JakeWashatka Woof, yeah, I just looked it up and it sounds like they only have 6" of wheel travel stock!? My GX460 had 8 stock and was around 9 with extended travel coilovers.
I think these new TNGA-F Toyota's are getting 9ish inches of front travel stock
@@Jay-me7gw lucky to get 6 out of stock Nissan/rc. Geometry sucks. Tswap changes the game and gets you up in the 9-10 pretty easily. Toyota focuses more on the offroad stuff so it wouldn’t surprise me.
Booger sugar and still watching
What did the Toyota driver mean when he said he installed a rear dif breather in case it gets wet? Shouldn’t that be factory. Isn’t it just a small rubber hose routed up under the hood?
The factory one is right on top of the diff. I extended it up to my rear taillight.
Yes. This also common among the frontier guys.
Nobody is giving you a 4th gen Tacoma or 3rd gen. Lol. Enjoy your Nissan.
But it's made in Mexico, every truck owner's dream
@@chibbyylol what are you? 16? Maybe read up on these new powertrains and educate yourself before making such a moronic statement. Better yet…. YOU go buy a brand new 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro and we can sit back and laugh!
Do you think the stock suspension would have had more flex than your Rough Country lift Booger Sugar?
Maybe a hair…
I have Pro4x, always hard to stomach when a Taco does something better. Not sure why I care, I love my mine, Love your content, keep it coming!
@@kallankawI got a sv with a m226 rear locked and Bilstein 5100s kit from ado with uca's and there isn't much tacos can do better than mine.

Guess I just need another cup of coffee Ha!
@@kallankaw yes my front suspension with the 5100s and the ado uca's definitely helped with travel and better articulation. The rear maybe not as much but definitely better than stock.
Good video, thanks. Boogers. What tire is on the Tacoma? Kenda Klevers…I paused just right on the rewatch.
Kevlar AT's
Or somthin like that lol
What was that sound from the Tacoma on the first obstacle when he gunned it? Was that a tire rubbing the wheel well? Didn't sound good!
Yeah I think it was rubbing a little
I hope for his sake I'm wrong but the way things are looking he should have stayed with the 3rd gen or gotten a frontier.
You might be right
@@4wdAdventurz I thought originally it was just insanity why they were offering what they were for used tacoma's compared to the 24s but now I'm thinking it's strategy to push them out as quickly as possible before 100% of the issues are common knowledge. Trust me I would have done the same thing if I had one and they offered me a crazy deal like that but not now with engines 💩 out.
@@JohnnyRebLa yeah I’m curious how these trucks are doing after 3-5yrs. What other issues come out…
Yea I've seen the manual transmission go and the front diff blow on the taco 4th gens now.
@@thedude828-ed2nnyou saw two videos… as did everyone else! Two UA-camrs break their trucks and now every new taco is a piece of trash! Y’all need to relax. Still waiting to see the Tacoma outperform the Frontier....not seeing it. They all did fine, so what's the problem?
The articulation of the suspension was far better then the Nissan's. That's it really. It didn't do anything the Nissan couldn't do, just made it look a bit easier..
@4wdAdventurz well yea, more articulation is always nice but I wouldn't call it outperforming. Still a great video though.

Ayeee.. 😂
Pics sales bill or it didn’t happen that way. 🤷🏻♂️
Bugger sugar! 😂
The tacos departure angle is ruined with that tail pipe placement
