  • This is a presentation that I was asked to create for an internal leadership team at Apple! Such an honor to make something for a company I admire so much. The goal was to create something that would spark the creative spirit and provide valuable insight for capturing better portraits. I aimed to create a quick-paced presentation that was engaging, inspiring, and helpful. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Thanks!

    Super clear, pragmatic, pedagogic, iterating, inspiring portrait tutorial full of essential info's and beautiful & high density human images. Mind blowing deconstruction, synthesis and presentation of the process. A must for any portrait photographer. Thank you so much Chris......... and Apple :-)

    Thanks, Chris it's great to see your approach towards crafting a portrait and I've recently started connecting with the subject during the shoot. Having just a general chat about them, family and holidays really makes them relax, which results in a better portrait.

    I love your work Chris, and thoroughly enjoy your teaching as well. I will say that many of the best portrait (and even headshot) photogs I have seen tend to have in common an engaging personality. Take Peter Hurley for example. His Head Shot Crew thing is wildly successful and he is a premier headshot photographer in NY. But if people think they can reproduce his style without his personality, they are kidding themselves. Sure his lighting setup is easy to replicate, but all the personality factors are unique to him.
    With you Chris, you are a happy feeling person who seems to always be smiling, yet not "in your face" like Hurley. Even your voice carries a smile. And I think that even with all your skills and experience, this is a major factor in your work. I know I can never be a Peter Hurley, because I am just not that person. But I can work on emulating your peaceful, happy calmness... I think. For me, that's the thing I need to focus on the most, so thanks for sharing your style with us.

    What a great presentation. That bride overlooking the mountain - wow. I liked how you analyzed it. Is it hard for you to go through this analysis in your head while actually shooting?

    • @chris-orwig
      @chris-orwig  7 днів тому +1

      yes! it's all intuitive when you are shooting... trusting your inner voice. helping the negative voices quiet down enough to hear that inner truth

    Lots of great points and of course some wonderful portraits. I was interested particularly in what you said at the end about breathing and asking the subject to take a deep breath. Is that something you often do?

    • @chris-orwig
      @chris-orwig  6 днів тому

      Yes! I do it 99% of the time I find that taking a deep breath is such a good way to ground and recenter… and perhaps it even allows the soul to drift into view.
