    Second Conditional in English
    🤔When do we use it?
We use the second conditional to talk about unreal, impossible or imaginary situations.
    🤔How do we form it?
The structure of the second conditional has two parts: the conditional and the result. We can use these two parts in any order (Condition → Result, or Result → Condition)
    Condition: IF + PAST SIMPLE
    Result: WOULD + INFINITIVE
    Examples of the Second Conditional
If I won the lottery, I would visit my friend in Australia.
If I were a giraffe, I would have a very long neck.
What would you do if you had more money?
If I spoke English more frequently, I would be more fluent.
    I'd feel better if I didn't have a cold.
I'd go to the beach if it wasn't raining.
If I were you, I'd take the job!
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Third Conditional in English
    🤔When do we use it?
We use the third conditional to talk about something that did not happen in the past.
    🤔How do we form it?
The structure of the third conditional has two parts: the conditional and the result. We can use these two parts in any order (Condition → Result, or Result → Condition)
    Condition: IF + PAST PERFECT
Result: WOULD HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE
    Examples of the Third Conditional
If I had been tall as a child, I would have played basketball.
If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
I would have gone to the beach yesterday if it hadn't rained.
If I had seen her, I would have said hello.
What would you have done if it had rained at the weekend?
I would have been angry if we had lost the game.
She would have come to class if she hadn't been busy.
    Mixed Conditionals in English
    🤔When do we use it?
We use the mixed conditional to talk about the probable result in the present of something that did not happen in the past.
    🤔How do we form it?
The structure of the mixed conditional has two parts: the same condition of the third conditional and the same result of the second conditional. We can use these two parts in any order (Condition → Result, or Result → Condition)
    Condition: IF + PAST PERFECT
    Result: WOULD + INFINITIVE
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Examples of the Mixed Conditional
Let’s look at some of the same examples we used with the third conditional, and talk about their possible results in the present:
If I had been tall as a child, I would be better at basketball now.
If I had studied harder, I would have a degree now.
If I had gone to the beach yesterday, I would be tanned.
If I had seen her, I would be happy.
If we had lost the game, we wouldn't be top of the league.
If he had got the job, he would be living in America now.
    Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the nice video, Greg!
I was wondering if it would be possible to use the contractions like this:
I'd've been angry if we'd lost the game….or is it a bit too much to contract both would and have?
    QUIZ
    1. If I were you I would look for another job
    2. If I had bought the house 15 years ago, it would have cost much more
    3. If you didn't work so much, you would have more time
    4. What would you do if you met C.Ronaldo?
    5. If she had called me, I would have answered

      Hi Franco!
5/5 on the answers. Well done!
Regarding your question, YES, we would definitely use contractions like that in spoken English, but not in written English (not even informal written English) as it looks messy. Generally, in spoken English, we use as many contractions as possible.

Hello, and thanks for all of that useful information. My question is about Mixed Conditional , as you said:
If he had got the job, he would be living... Shouldn't we say : he would live...
    I mean would plus infinitive?
I'll be really glad, if you answer my question. Thank you in advance.

    • @EnglishWithGreg
      @EnglishWithGreg  3 роки тому +1

He would be living... He would live... In both cases 'would' is followed by an infinitive (be / live). The first option (be living) just puts a little more emphasis on the continuous action of 'living'.

How to formulate present perfect sentences to conditional sentences? For example....
    Situation one ...
(1)I have just eaten so, I can't go out with you for dinner....how to formulate this present perfect sentense(I have just eaten)
If I did not eat, I would go out with you for dinner. Or
If I had not eaten, I would go out with you for dinner.
Any teacher has never discribed about how to convert conditional from present perfect....they always discuss about past situation but what about recent past which has connection with present....can we use second conditional or we have to use past perfect in those types of situations....please guide about recent past which has connection with present.....second situation
(2)He has killed his wife so police will arrest him.
If he did not kill(or had not killed)his wife, police would not arrest him.
    Situation three...
(3)He has killed his wife so Police has arrested him.
If did not kill( or had not killed) his wife, Police would not have arrested him.
As every one says Second conditional is used for 'present' and 'future'.....dose the 'present' mean 'present simple' or' present perfect'?
Third conditional used for past tense.does it mean 'past simple' and 'resent past(present perfect)?...
Please guide me I am very eager to know your answer...

I'm afraid not. This is something that "did not happen in the past", so we need the 3rd conditional...
