I am an English Teacher in Indonesia. I tell my students to learn grammar and pronounciation by mmm english. thank you emma for your very helpful videos.
1.We had been waiting for the bus an hour, when finally the bus arrived. 2.He had working at the supermarket for a long time, when one day he became the manager. Or past perfect simple: He had been worked at the supermarket before he became the manager. 3. He had been spending the afternoon cooking, when the dinner guests cancelled. Thank you for lesson. I had been watching your video, when I found the answer for my question.
I have chosen you as my teacher since the day I've discovered you on UA-cam. You are a good teacher you have a good knowledge, I love your english as well as your pronunciation and the way you explain.
Hello Emma! You explain so well and I am so glad I found your channel as it has helped me so much! YOU ARE A REAL HERO 🥰😍. Here are the answers of all the situations: 1. If I got a promotion I would buy a new car. 2. If I cook spicy food my child won't eat it. 3. If her dog ran away I would feel horrible / If your dog ran away would you forgive me? 4. If I ran out of coffee I would buy some more. It would mean alot if you checked these for me as I have a extremely important exam tomorrow. Thankyou for your time 🤗
3 and 4 should probably use suppose since your supposed to imagine it. for example: 3. Suppose your dog ran away, i would feel horrible 4. suppose i ran out of coffee, i would buy some more
First situation: If i got a promotion at work i'd afford the car. Second situation: If i cook a spicy dish my child will not eat it. Third situation: Supposing your dog ran away would you still ask me to take care of it? Fourth situation: If i ran out of coffee i wouldn't work productive. Thanks for your healpfull lessons espessially for conditional ones(I learnt this part of grammar with the help of you).👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your answer for the third situation doesn’t make sense logically if the dog ran away then the dog will be lost she wouldn’t ask you again, there is no dog. Am I right ?
Thank you Emma, great explanations and examples! These are my answers: If I got a promotion, I would buy a new car; If I cooked a spicy meal, my child would not eat it; Supposing that your dog ran away, I would feel horrible; and the last one really applies to me: If I ran out of coffee, I would be very upset.
Very well explained Emma! I find that it's necessary for my students to revise the conditionals regularly so they remember the grammar. So, videos like this are very useful.
Situation#2- If I cook spicy food, my child won't eat it. Unless my child eats spicy food, I will not cook it. Situation#3- If your dog ran away, I would not look for it. Situation#4- If I ran out of coffee, I will quickly buy at the grocery. Supposing I ran out of coffee, I'll be upset for whole day. Looking forward to receiving your feedback in this regard. I love watching your channel. It enhances my English skills. Continue to share. Thank you.
I've started listening to one of these a day or so, it's great stuff for anyone who wants to know more about the English language. If I learn one thing in each video I watch it was well worth it!

I have a question: In the first conditional, can we combine present + present? I am in America and I was taught at the University it's possible!!!

If I remember my friend's birthday I'll get her a present If anybody at work had talked to me about the possibility of a promotion, I would be able to afford it If my friend asked me to take care of their dog I would feel horrible if the dog ran away 😓 ı guess I am wrong
Your second sentence does not use the type two conditional. It is called a Mixed conditional sentence because you used the Past perfect simple tense ( had talked...) with the Present simple as a result of the past ( would be able to afford...)
Jyothi Sithara As long as he finishes his homework, he can go out to play. If he does not finish his homework, he cannot go out to play. Both sentences mean the same idea. They are examples of “Zero type conditionals” where the first part of the sentence ( If he does not finish...) is in the Present Simple and the second part ( he cannot go out ) is also in the Present Simple. They are not 1st nor 2nd type Conditionals. First uses a form of Will, whilst Second uses Would. In the examples you can see that there are both made up without the use of the auxiliary verbs Would or Will. There are also other exceptions you need to study as well...
Jyothi Sithara As long as he finishes his homework, he can go out to play is a First conditional type sentence. You can use the “If clause” here as well and say: If he does not finish his homework, he cannot go out to play. It is the same idea. As long as you write things down, you will be able to revise ( and keep. record of...) them. If you do not write things down, you will not be able to revise or keep a record of things.
1: If I was promoted at work, I would buy an expensive new car. 2: If I make a spicy dish for dinner, my child won't eat it. 3: If the dog ran away while you were on holidays, I would feel horrible. 4: If I ran out of coffee, I would have to buy one.

If I had a promotion, I would buy a new brand car. if my child ate spicy food, I would cook something like that for dinner. Unless the dog run away, I won't worry about that. If coffee ran out, I could drink water.
"If I was promoted i would buy a new car" "If I cook spicy food, my child won't eat it" "What should i do if your dog ran away" "If i ran out of coffee, i would be very upset"
0:55 If "ifs" and "ands" were pots and pans, there would be no work for tinker's hands. Here's another one: If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts , we'd all have a merry Christmas. TBH I have few others but who cares anyway?
Hi Emma, thanks for another great video! I'll give it a go.. 0. "Unless I forgot to buy a gift as always, she would be really happy." (another perspective) 1. "Supposing I got a promotion, I would be able to afford the new car." 2. "If I cook that spicy dish, my kid will never take even a bite of it." 3. "Supposing your dog ran away, I would never forgive myself." 4. "If I ran out of coffee and were deprived of my morning dose, I would regret that all the day long."

If my boss talks as you do, I will understand everything 😁
many thanks.
If I remember my friend's birthday I'll get her a present
If anybody at work had talked to me about the possibility of a promotion, I would be able to afford it
If my friend asked me to take care of their dog I would feel horrible if the dog ran away 😓 ı guess I am wrong
Great!!
Great!
