There was something in the air and water in the 70s. The amount of beautiful, powerful, inspiring music is seemingly endless. ELO should be added to the top tier of epic artists from that era. Really, I can't get it out of my head. Oh, no.
No computers, no stealing of music, people had to buy something to listen, now no money goes to artists. no motivation to make great music like in the 60 and 70s
I think this is amazing, but I can't say "Best" for the same reason I HATE GOAT comments. There are some things, songs, performers, etc., that just go to a higher level than 99% of all others. This is one of them, but I would include Days of Future Past with it. Which one is better / Best??? Neither... Both amazing!!!
A beautiful performance of a song that perfectly describes a longing to stay in the dream from which you just awakened. I would love to stay in the dream of the 1970s, when all this incredible music came into being.
Very well said....the dream that tells you there is something more out there for you...immersed in its sense while you dream, you awaken heartbroken every time!!! It can throw you off for days....the sense that something is not right. This song capture that essence....a longing for something upon which you cannot place your finger...but it is there.
Great Song thanks for the Show, I got my tickets for the final tour, my bucket list, I've never seen him before, and I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.
Sorrow confronts me as I look on the innocence I felt, the beauty I envisioned, the colors that blinded me, the freedom of my soul. Music made everything fresh and new when viewed through its chorus and notes. Looking back now, I can't get it out of my soul.
Such appropriate words for this music. I was 14 in Tampa Florida and saw my first bare boobs to this, and rock & roll fantasy by Bad Company. In a neighborhood called Seffner. What times of innocence and hope for the future. The way the cellos and the synthesizer combine to carry one's soul into the sky.... I absolutely love this song and what it conjours out of memory.
Hard to believe Jeff had severe stage fright at the beginning. That's where the dark glasses came in during live shows. The guy is a true legend. Been an ELO fan forever.
During these incredible years the driving force was the song and the beauty of the sound over everything! Seriously the 70's were the best time for music. Honesty and art and musicianship ruled Supreme.
This song has meant so much to me over the years! Love ELO! I first heard this song as a young Air Force man stationed in Guam (the land of beautiful sunrises and sunsets). This song really struck my heart for some reason. Maybe it was my homesickness, I don't know for sure, but I have been such a huge fan of ELO since.
It's a song about longing, about dreaming of a magical world when you are stuck in a rut in a bleak, joyless world... so yeah, I can see how someone stationed in Guam with island fever would relate to it. I was working for a while at Cape Lisburne radar station in the northwest corner of Alaska. Desolate, barren, windy, and depressing. Only accessible by plane.
