The way the trackpoint is supposed to be used, is allow you to control the cursor while keeping your hands in typing position. Picked one of these up for $129. No power adapter but that’s $20 on Amazon. Also only had 8GB RAM and a 256gb drive, but I already had a 16gb RAM stick and a 1TB Samsung nvme in my parts bin. Should be good to go for several more years now. :)
I’ve been using my 480s with i7, 24g, 2tb nvme, mx150 for two and a half year now. Not sure it’ll go for as long as my t430p but this thing is a beast. Paid $250 and upgraded the ram and nvme
1) Screen brightness - is it really as bad as people complain?(I assume yours comes with basic fhd) 2) You said screen drops to 48Hz while unplugged - is that significantly noticeable? (I've been reading many posts about t480s and never heard about this downside before) 3) How does your new battery from ifixit hold? To my understanding, they don't sell OEM batteries anymore. 4) You said that Win 11 win ruin the laptop - what do you mean by that?
(Mine is a T480 not T480s, but it also has the 48Hz when on battery feature as well.) Personally I don't think it's noticable. I guess if you're going for competitive gaming, or if you are really focusing on the frame rate when playing 60fps contents it might have an impact, but otherwise I think it's fine. If you really don't like it, at least on T480 you can disable the feature in the intel graphics control panel, and I believe the same can be done on a T480s too. On a side note, T480 has this nesty habit of dropping screen brightness sneakly when the majority of the screen is dark when on bat. It makes reading dark themed websites really eye straining. Thankfully it can also be disable in the intel control panel as well. The worst part is the brightness change is just subtle enough for you to not notice outright, but enough to make the viewing experience aweful. The same "feature" might also be present on T480s idk. Just bear this in mind if you feel like the screen is getting harder to read for some reason, and disable the dynamic backlight in the control panel if you want.
