But if she can, so can I. And you're an awesome husband, doubling back to get her through the hard part. WooHoo from me to you two.
Me and my girlfriend ran the 100k in 21:15hrs, having only done a few months of running in our lives and never anything longer than 15 miles. We only got to the start line because of this channel, and made it to the finish because of this channel. Congrats to jen for her stellar time and both of your hard work!

@@israelvlbs I think all three of these thames path videos do a good job at highlighting the reality of the distance. 100k isn’t like doing 10k, ten times. I don’t know a lot about running, but I did learn a lot about ultras when we did it: - Nutrition and hydration are the most important things to get right - You’ll feel great for 5,10,15,20 miles, be conservative, when it starts to fall apart it falls apart very quickly. Don’t speed up. - You must be ready, and willing, to meet suffering head on. You will reach stages where you know you can’t go on, and somehow you must. It’s both a glorious and terrible thing to experience - Finishing probably means not running every km, and that’s okay. - Small injuries and niggle become big problems in long distances. Avoid blisters, hotspots, pressure points, chafing like your life depends on it. - If you have access to bag drops at x distance, use them. We did not use our 50km bag drop and later regretted carrying too much during the day and not having enough clothes at night. - Write a race plan for your target time, write a race place for a time 5 hours slower than that. I finished this race inside 12 hours a couple of years back. No terrible heat, no running in the dark, and I went into it feeling fairly well prepared (sub-3hr marathon previously, etc). I was still a mess by the finish line. I couldn’t eat or drink for much of it (nausea), and I could barely walk at the end. I had to call someone at 80k to have a good cry down the phone. It doesn’t matter how well trained or fast you think you are. Ultra distances are so much about mental fortitude, which you both clearly have bags off. Kudos to her for giving it a go, and for getting it done 👏
Jen Rocks!!! You were right when you said you’re 2 different types of runner. That’s a big part of why she succeeded-all of those other events that distracted her were great cross training and teaching her what she’s capable of. She was mentally focused on her goal and believed she could achieve it. I did my first long distance bike of 112 miles years ago. Only trained 37 miles on my longest ride because I Had only acquired my road bike a few weeks before the race. Threw my bike in the dirt at mile 55 and thought about quitting. Ate my emergency snickers bar and knew I’d finish no matter what. Finished in the dark 2 hours after they took down the finish line. Stabbing pains in my legs the next day but didn’t dampen that sense of accomplishment. Totally worth it!
I am beyond impressed. I can't begin to imagine going that distance, and doing it without masses of training is so impressive. Jenna must have a huge reserve of will power....

Hey mark, love the channel. I have just completed my first race / event in 5yrs after shedding 45kg and counting. I had stopped events like ironman, tri and marathon a few years ago and up until Feb 2023 had written off any notion of fitness. I had accepted the hole I had dug. Then something changed - I felt I deserved more. And I went for a run and started to look for inspiration. I take a lot of motivation from your channel. Hope to thank you in person one day - but until then keep doing what you’re doing. It’s changing peoples lives :)
This is one of your best videos. Jenna ground out an incredible achievement with a whole lot of tenacity, endurance and sensible pacing. Very, very well done to her!
Jen is a legend! Despite clearly possessing lots of athletic ability, her "take it as it comes" approach to sporting challenges is truly refreshing. I will try (unsuccessfully, no doubt) to emulate this approach in future. PS. I love this channel. Your videos are entertaining and informative and i appreciate the snippets of family life that you throw into the mix
I love how you showed her journey and that someone who doesn’t do a lot of running can attempt an ultra after only a year. Some people run for years and thinks long runs are out of their ability. I love show that you can try anything and it’s more about trying something hard than finishing first.
I also ran the same day, but in the Netherlands and took on the Winschoten 100KM. It was bloody hot, but I ended up in third place with a final time of 7h42min33sec. One of the biggest achievements in running I have done so far! I was so tired, I missed the ceremony 😂 So I’m super proud of Jen for doing what she did and continuing on after that 50km in the heat! Good on you!
@@kristjanchapman3567 I have a hard time believing you can run at 7:26 mile pace for the whole 100k unless you run like a sub 4:30 mile or something like that and you trained like a mad man in XC and Track and Field from as early of an age as 7 years old. Just amazing. The Mental shift Jen have done over the last year, on how to attack a Challange/problem. Accepting the Suck and fighting to complete something just make me smile =) Personally this is one of the best vids I have seen in a long time well edited a good tad of humor. Huge Grats to Jen Seems like you have found a good balance now with Fitness/life... And well done on the support side as well Mark .. =)
What an achievement! 🙌 Congratulations Jen! You really did smash it out of the park. Also the "Try screaming at me motherfu..." comment had me in stitches! 😂 Really do love this channel and the stuff you guys get up to. Proper motivating & entertaining. Keep it up. 👍
Jen's dedication and effort to go all the way is incredible, what an achievement. Mark made the best support crew she could ever have. Well done both, specially to Jen for completing ! Would love to see you both run this together.
I've followed you guys when you come up on my yt feed (I'm sorry!) but over the last couple of years I think? Sporadically enough to really appreciate your fitness evolution and I just want you to know you are FREAKING INSPIRING. Blessings to you!
Congratulations Jen, very well done. Courageous, and truly inspirational. Excellent support work Mark. You both should be very proud of yourselves. Thoroughily enjoyed the video. Good luck in future endeavours.. Best wishes, From Sydney, Australia.,
Holy moly! Gongrats to Jen. That was amazing. I'm slowly training towards my first ultra and seeing Jen complete hers gives me support I don't really have otherwise.
😂 thanks. At that point I just needed to know if there were serious issues she may be having or just annoying bits. And even bits can be fixed. Chafing for 5km is no fun and easy to ignore till too late when it could be addressed with done lube in seconds. And as you know…..dizzy, disoriented etc is not ideal 😂
I found this channel about a month ago and as a long term watcher of various fitness and bodybuilding channels over a number of years i can safely say i have never been so motivated. I am NOT a runner! I am 41, always struggled with weight yoyo's and binge eating, depression etc, had 7 serious heart attacks the first of which at 22 years of age, and following the 7th one 12 months ago had kind of given up on ever being in shape again as i know suffer with heart failure. Mark and Jen's video's have changed this for me. I'm back in the gym, eating properly and am even now going out daily for brisk walks and yes, even the occasional jog! Small steps in comparrison to 100k ultra's but my point is although my goals are very different to most watching these videos, the motivation, mind-set, and positivity is real, not to mention the humor, great film references and relatabillity. I never comment on stuff, but i really have just gotta say thanks, the effort clearly shows in the quality of the content and is helping me and many others to make serious changes towards living z lknger and happier life. Awesome 👍🏻
This video shows many things. It shows how great your channel is to entertain and make me laugh. It shows what a great and tough athlete Jen has become - wow, congratulations!! And it shows just HOW GOOD Mark is at motivating and at supporting shaping a mindset. For Somebody who likes to listen to you, you make a great mental trainer! The change in Jen's mindset is staggering, it is her achievement - and I believe Mark helped it a ton!
@marklewis thanks for putting this out on the regular UA-cam. I'd love to be a Patreon but that's not in the cards right now and I've been following your journey for a few years now. Amazing video. Great job Jen! Great job Mark!
Another excellent video, I ran the 2015 100k and boy did this bring back memories and remind me about all the things I ddi wrong too. 53 now and wiser and hopefully I'll give the 50k a go next year as a fun target.Big high five to Jenna and so jealous of her recovery. Of course I got up in the middle of the night and went to the loo afte rmine, only to faint and break my ribs against the corner of the bath, but hopefully have learned not to do that again. Look forward to the next content.
WOW! Congratulation Jen!!! The shot of crossing the finish line brought back some feels of when I stumbled across an Ironman finish line after a highly underprepared race. It's amazing how the mind can take you right back to those big experience moments... This video was very well edited such that the whole time I was thinking she might not makes it based on the title of the video being "tried"... To live vicariously through the finish line of this one was a good feeling! Cheers!
I just did my first marathon this summer, and I was aching so badly by mile 22. I couldn't imagine doing another full marathon plus after that! Major kudos to Jenna for making it through this!!
Jen did a fantastic job of managing the heat. She stayed hydrated, stayed electrolyted (if that's not a real word, it is now) and found bits of shade whenever possible. Well done, Jen! I don't do stupid long runs, I do stupid long bicycle rides. As a big dude (much closer to Mark's "before" photo than his "after" photos) heat is my kryptonite. I DNF'd a big ride last year in a freak heat wave. I set a PR for the first 300K (under 13 hours over hilly terrain, mostly at night), then the heat hit and the wheels fell off. It took more than 3 hours to ride the final 50K over relatively gentle terrain. I had nothing in the tank. I ended up with full-on heat stroke -- shivering and chills (despite the oppressive heat and humidity), dizzy, slurring my words, unable to walk straight, no appetite. It was debilitating and super scary. I was a living (barely) example of every symptom Mark looked for in Jen during her run. Again, well done, Jen. You're a certified bad-ass.
That is an incredible performance considering what Jen has done before. I’m becoming more and more convinced that going way slower than you think you need to at the start is the best way for these events. 100km in 17-ish hours is fantastic, and in that heat, even more so.
My husband supports me on cycling and running adventures. I achieve so much more with his support and interest in all the tech & gear. Teamwork - it’s brilliant. We each need to train differently and get motivated in different ways - bloody lovely to do bigger rides or events with his back up (and vice versa).
So impressed with you both. Jen outstanding run and Mark awesome support. It takes an amazing mindset to finish any race in such tough conditions and in such pain/discomfort. My wife is running the Chiltern50 today. She's taken a fall but is struggling on - she’s about 50% slower but has her best buddy with her supporting her (I'd be there but we have a 3 and 7 year old running riot around me - think I'd rather be doing an Ultra). I did the SouthCoast Ultra couple of weeks back and Jurassic Ultra earlier in the year. Running total 16 ultras completed since 2018. Leaving for the Sahara Challenge in 2 weeks. It's addictive this form of torture. Great content. Awesome determination - you both inspire us all. Thank you.
I've been following your channel for years and this video inspired me to sign up to give this very Ultra a go later this year, having only done a half marathon 10 years ago as any distance before. Been training since January and I've discovered a new found love for running. Just about to set off for a 17 mile run 👍. Thanks for the great content.
Huge congratulations to Jen! Super inspiring to see someone struggling but keeping on pushing through. I’m a new runner and even 5k feels so out of my grasp. I think I might just try it and see how I get on ❤
There's some apps out there to work on building up to a 5k with run/walking and progression. I use couch to 5k, starts with 1 minute running/90 second walking intervals and builds up from there.
huge congrats to Jen, amazing that she went there and dealt with it (without the usual moaning / complaining we have come to expect from this channel ;) ) - a true inspiration and reminder that we are better than we think, more resiliant that we acknowledge. You should both be super proud. I hope plenty of plant based meals were simply destroyed in the days following, you earnt it (Jen).
Congrats Jen! Mark, you and your wife are a massive motivation to be positive and just do something with the right mindset. Your content and humour get me out of my own issues. Thank you.
An awesome accomplishment for Jen!! I do really appreciate showcasing the different approaches to fitness and challenges that you and Jen have! Lovely perspective.
I found this really moving and was emotional watching Jen cross the finish line. Good for her! As someone with a similar view on fitness/sport, she motivates me so much! Congratulations 🎉
Well done to Jen!! She must have such a strong mind to persist like that. Great support too, rushing out to meet her when her devices went flat. Great team ❤
Brilliant. Well done Jen. Absolutely awesome. Great content for the channel. She is clearly "fit" (Not in a click bait way (But she is that also)) but even so there's "fit" and there's 100KM ultra run / walk fit !! Hats off. Chapeau
What a truly amazing achievement by Jen, from start to finish it looked like u both got it bang on, massive congratulations to Jen - I just loved the way you went back and got her to make sure she was safe and to help her thru the toughest part, as always, you filmed with wit and fun throughout - love you both x🫶x
Absolutely Epic! Jen you are tough and resilient. Running in heat, keeping a good pace, dealing with tech issues, and above all running alone in the dark is terrifying for women in ways a man can never understand. You're inspiring.
Fantastic video, Congrats to Jen! I am at the beginning of my running journey, which will last for a long time, I hope, and this gives me encouragement and ideas to push myself. Who knows, one day I may do this run.
Well done Jen! Very much mirrored my experience of the run. I lost my head torch, my feet were in serious shambles for the last 25km and tendons in my feet are still not happy now! Seriously well done!
First off, congrats Jen at your amazing performance. We’ve followed you on your fitness progression so each new achievement is so inspiring. And I love the support you gave her when she needed it the most. She’s my new favorite Lewis champion. I’d watch Jen calmly jogging in at 31st place over a Mark duck pond metal moment any day.
Mark i think everyone would benefit from you showing a video that consolidates your beginning (like first attempt) cardio exercise, heart rate, and pace all the way to now. Lot of us who are just starting even coming from team sports or just weights have a lot of discouragement with being so slow unless our rate ticks to high levels. And a lot of these youtubers are already way ahead and giving advise from that POV
Amazingly inspiring effort from Jen. I love how her quiet, apparent, laissez faire attitude counterpoints your "do or die" one! You make a fine team. ... nicely produced video too!
Mark, I think we can all agree that Jenn has surpassed you as the favorite on the channel. What a beast she was! Stay above average my man! We all love Jenn!
Just wow! Amazing job. Mark while I love most of your videos this one took it over the inspirational top. Congratulations Jenn on an amazing accomplishment!
Jen is absolutely amazing! What an inspiration! ❤ And you're a superstar for rescuing her when it got tough, despite it not being the easiest thing to do.
Well done Jem absolutely smashed it. not only did you overcome the distance you also over come a childhood fear bravo 🙌🏼 look forward to seeing what’s next for you both. ❤
Brilliant to see, especially after recently completing 1st 100km. It brought all the pain and emotion back. Jen has proved she is made of the tough stuff 💪
Blimey that really is very Impressive, I’m intrigued whether I would enjoy something like this or not - I guess there is only 1way to find out!! As an ex-rugby player I’m generally fit although don’t test my body as much as I could and heavily rely on what I used to be able to do as a measure of my fitness and athletic ability. This video has really inspired me to keep challenging myself. You’re only as good as your last game!!! Thank you and keep up the hard work xxxxxxxxx
Well done Jen that was amazing. I was also one of those 600 odd finishers and the heat was such a factor so just finishing is an achievement regardless of time 👏
This was an awesome and inspiring effort! There have been examples of women taking up ultra distance sports a bit later in life, discovering a latent talent and going onto represent their countries! Could this be Jen's future???
Inspiring, I've just started back jogging and I'm picking up injuries, first Achilles tendons and had to take four weeks off and now the top of my foot after doing a run last week and I'm only doing 7k, looking to break myself back in over the winter and see how far i can get. Do weights three times a weeks and will regardless. well done Jen gives us all something to look up to and I'm a man.
I Usually dont comment YT videos, but this one was amazing, loved every minute of it. Narration was on point and Jen was amazing. Would be interisting to see a follow up video with all your decisions regarding, calories intake, water, electrolytes, gear use, when to lub and change shoes, etc etc. Would love to see all the decision making that went in to it.

Huge Grats to Jen Seems like you have found a good balance now with Fitness/life... And well done on the support side as well Mark .. =)
Congrats Jen! Mark you got a great skill in telling the story of her amazing achievement.
What an achievement! 🙌 Congratulations Jen! You really did smash it out of the park. Also the "Try screaming at me motherfu..." comment had me in stitches! 😂 Really do love this channel and the stuff you guys get up to. Proper motivating & entertaining. Keep it up. 👍
"Heatwave" of 32C, or what we in Australia call a cooler change in the weather
Jen's dedication and effort to go all the way is incredible, what an achievement. Mark made the best support crew she could ever have. Well done both, specially to Jen for completing ! Would love to see you both run this together.
I've followed you guys when you come up on my yt feed (I'm sorry!) but over the last couple of years I think? Sporadically enough to really appreciate your fitness evolution and I just want you to know you are FREAKING INSPIRING. Blessings to you!
Well done Jen 👏 fabulous achievement and very motivating❤
Congratulations Jen, very well done. Courageous, and truly inspirational. Excellent support work Mark. You both should be very proud of yourselves. Thoroughily enjoyed the video. Good luck in future endeavours.. Best wishes, From Sydney, Australia.,
Holy moly! Gongrats to Jen. That was amazing. I'm slowly training towards my first ultra and seeing Jen complete hers gives me support I don't really have otherwise.
Awesome achievement Jen! It was very exciting to follow during the day!
And Mark, you were an awesome support that day!
Cracking effort Jen, really impressive. Next level support as well Mark…absolutely loving the content, both a huge inspiration.
This was great! Jen did amazingly well. And I have to say as a Paramedic, that patient assessment at 19:25 was spot on... well done.
Awesome 👍🏻
Awesome effort Jen. The human body, when it is looked after, is truly amazing
Bloody hell Mark, even I got a bit emotional when Jen crossed the line, what an incredible inspiration, well done!
I swear this is by far the most entertaining channel...well done Jen...🎉
That was awesome from start to finish! Too many good monents to comment on. Well done Jen and great support Mark!
Jen super well done and determination and still going when watch stopped.
Mark was almost 100% without cheek to you this video so really was proud. 🎉
That is an incredible performance considering what Jen has done before. I’m becoming more and more convinced that going way slower than you think you need to at the start is the best way for these events. 100km in 17-ish hours is fantastic, and in that heat, even more so.
OH MY GOD well done Jen !!! This is so inspirational, Thankyou so much for finishing. I’m going to go crush my goals with this in mind!
I think I might just try it and see how I get on ❤
Go for it!! Even if you have to walk for a few minutes, who cares- you'll have completed your first 5k race and gotten a PR to aim to beat!
There's some apps out there to work on building up to a 5k with run/walking and progression. I use couch to 5k, starts with 1 minute running/90 second walking intervals and builds up from there.
Very impressive from Jen. Mark great support and fair play running back to meet her when it was getting really hard for her. Great video.
huge congrats to Jen, amazing that she went there and dealt with it (without the usual moaning / complaining we have come to expect from this channel ;) ) - a true inspiration and reminder that we are better than we think, more resiliant that we acknowledge. You should both be super proud. I hope plenty of plant based meals were simply destroyed in the days following, you earnt it (Jen).
Congrats Jen!
Mark, you and your wife are a massive motivation to be positive and just do something with the right mindset. Your content and humour get me out of my own issues.
Thank you.
Fantastic Jen, kudos! I ran that day but retired at 50km, the heat was intense. I am immensely impressed with your achievement.
Brilliant edit and video and what an achievement from Jen! Amazing to see her progress on her. 👏
Thank for your humor, Mark. I love the sarcasm and quirkiness of your humor! Good stuff!
Well done to Jen!! She must have such a strong mind to persist like that. Great support too, rushing out to meet her when her devices went flat. Great team ❤
Mark some people are blessed for finding someone in their life. You are so lucky you have Jen.
PS. What you did at the end is what every must must do.
Jen, that was really impressive. Your attitude is priceless…….keep smiling and moving on. Mark, great job with the support (and pool exiting pics)
Absolutely Epic! Jen you are tough and resilient. Running in heat, keeping a good pace, dealing with tech issues, and above all running alone in the dark is terrifying for women in ways a man can never understand. You're inspiring.
What a great video. Jen was fantastic - 31st in that heat and minimal training. And her mental attitude is so solid. Amazing.
A truly incredible performance, congratulations Jenn!
What a brilliant video. I watched both your previous 100k runs and was looking forward to this year's installment. Incredible effort from Jen!
Amazingly inspiring effort from Jen. I love how her quiet, apparent, laissez faire attitude counterpoints your "do or die" one! You make a fine team. ... nicely produced video too!
Well done Jen!!
Good on you both for having an amazing upbeat inspiring attitude to both yourselves and the audience. Well enjoyed watch!
Jen is an absolute machine. Her rambles to the camera towards the end were so dry and hilarious. 💪💪😎
You guys are highly entertaining and Jen is a rockstar!! Absolutely a rockstar!! Please pass that along!!
Mark, I think we can all agree that Jenn has surpassed you as the favorite on the channel. What a beast she was! Stay above average my man! We all love Jenn!
This one made me laugh and tear up. Go Jen! And awesome job supporting her, Mark!
Well done Jen! And great decision to act as backup mark. A great team effort
Wow, ABOVE AVERAGE for sure. What a trooper she is, impressive stamina and great results. Congrats Jen!
Total respect to Jen. An immense achievement. We will be watching this again and again.
Brilliant to see, especially after recently completing 1st 100km. It brought all the pain and emotion back. Jen has proved she is made of the tough stuff 💪
Mammoth effort Jen. Everyone is so proud of you. Great support from you Mark.
Incredible effort Jen, I need to take a good look at myself and step things up after seeing you achieve this 👏🏼
Blimey that really is very Impressive, I’m intrigued whether I would enjoy something like this or not - I guess there is only 1way to find out!!
Absolutely fantastic. Well done Jen and Mark for supporting. Incredible watch. 😊
Really impressive achievement from Jen. Massive respect for the mental strength to keep going.
Well done Jen that was amazing. I was also one of those 600 odd finishers and the heat was such a factor so just finishing is an achievement regardless of time 👏
Cracking vid Mark, huge props to Jen for doing this.
I am blow away by Jen's GUTS. Way to Soldier On, Jen. Absolutely inspiring. Cheers from Canada.
Brilliant video, had a good few laughs! Well done Jen, that's a f**kng amazing effort! Great team work
This was an awesome and inspiring effort!
Brilliant video. Well done Jen for doing that. And also mark for doing a good job crewing. Great to hear more from Jen!!
