@Empire of the Wolves Dude, he lives off his wifes money. Even his daughter's statement regarding supporting him shows that he's not one to talk. Its why he tries to embezzle the million dollars from the charity foundation and blame its disappearance on Lebowski.
Always hated how he treated the dude in this scene. Man just wanted a new rug, it tied the room together and it was soiled because the old bastards wife’s debt.

Dude is entitled to go after either party at his convenience.
