It's because of my two "Cousin-Sisters" Nee-Cee & Gail that I was introduced to this wonderful album & to Mr. Pebo Bryson in the autum of 1976 while I was home on leave. I ran right to The Soul Shack record store in Washington,D.C. & bought this gem. This was one of the late Melvin Lindsey's regular songs that he played on The Original Quiet Storm on Howard University's W.H.U.R. R.I.P. Melvin & thanks for the great music & memories.
Wow! I use to listen to it back then also. WHUR was my station back then, and the Quiet Storm was #1 hands down. I even met Peabo at O'Hare Airport in 1996 standing in line getting coffee. Great convo and autograph.
Peabo Bryson possessed a powerful voice & he had incredible range. These two traits made him a versatile vocalist yet this man is so under-rated. IMO, Peabo could sing circles around most of his male singers of the day who were his contemporaries. His songs are timeless classics.
Heard this once one morning while getting ready for school in Manchester, UK back in 77. It then took me another 35 years to find it. His best in my opinion and sounds very much like a Norman Connors production. Technology cannot and never will replace the unique fusion of gifted musicians and recording artists working within the limits of their collective talent, experiences, skill, technique, ingenuity and imagination - not to mention the few visionaries heading up key record labels.
I was graduating high school and headed to Jackson State University as a freshman when this came out. I know music, and I love music, and this is absolutely, hands down, one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I love Peabo for this one, just hate I never got to hear him sing it live.
This song takes me to a place where few songs take me! His range is incredible! I auditioned for a popular band in D.C. around 76-77, and the manager was a DJ who got promo copies b4 the radio even played them. He came to rehearsal with the 45 of I'm So Into You and we laughed at his name, but nobody could sing the song! He was one of the best that ever did it!
I've been reading and looking at a lot of top 25 & 50 all time male R&B singers. I can't believe Peabo isn't on one of those lists. That's crazy! This guy should be on any top 10 male R&B lists.
A class act all the way. Ladies a mans heart ain't no game if he uses a song like this to express his love, take care and love him back. Not many men have true heart.
nina...I know, right! I was only about 10-11 y/o when this first came out but even then I could appreciate what a beautiful voice he had (has). And not just Peabo's voice that makes this song....it's the lyrics...the musical arrangements...everything! In general, I think his albums from the 70's were by far the best ;-)
70'S !!!!!!!!! JESUS I WAS 15 YEARS OLD AND I REMEMBER MY PARENTS HAVING BASEMENT PARTIES IN BROOKLYN NY!! AND I WOULD BE DOWN THERE DANCING AND HAVING A BLAST WITH THEM!! NEVER QUESTIONED THE FUN THEY HAD!! MISS MY CHILDHOOD MY MOM & DAD WAS IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE MY GREATEST HERO'S AND INSPRATION
This is the kind of song that makes you remember where you were and what you were doing the first time you heard it. You knew this singer was going to be a star. The kind of song that builds a reputation instead of resting on one.I was wondering the first time I heard it "Who the F*ck is that?
Robert Jenkins, I can Relate to what you are saying. I remember it was in june of 1977 about 2am in the morning, me and my cousin was up listening to the radio and this came on. my cousin said, Tape that....Tape that. This is still my fave song by him. a shame it hasn't been on the radio since then.
I LOVE THIS. I GOT THIS ON A CD I BOUGHT FROM OFF AMAZON AND I TELL YA THIS SONG BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYE'S AND MEMORIES TO MY SOUL... PEABO'S LIKE AN UNCLE TO ME, SEEN HIM SO MANY TIMES AND ONE YEAR I GOT A ROSE FROM HIM AT YOSHI'S ... I HOPE HE CONTINUE TO CREATE MUSIC LIKE THIS...
Another WHUR-FM 96.3 Original Quiet Storm hit. I have this on wax. Thanks Melvin Lindsey. Great work here.. debut album from Peabo. Flawless singing here nothing fake.
Didto, was there; shout out to Melvin Linsey! Remember just driving in the car with Melvin on with car full of people everybody quietly listening to song after song taken us in our own personal moods, mesmerized not in any hurry to reach out destination, as though on a cruise...my my my, RIP Melvin
This song is the bomb! About 3:49 into the song it mellows out so smooth and sexy and takes me to another planet!.....I have this Album can't get enough of this song! He blew me away back then!
*Screams* *Swoons* I NEVER thought I would find songs from PB's first album anywhere! Thank you sooooo much for uploading this!! This is my favorite song from that album.
Peabo IS the standard for singing Love Ballards to your Soul! I met him in 1980 and he was a gentleman to a gentleman, and show me tremendous courtesy as I once visited his home, while the legendary John Pate was visiting him! Remarkable.
I jumped on his band-wagon when this 1st came out, that's how I knew where all the other ballads he did came from ('Feel The Fire','I'm So Into You','Can You Stop The Rain', I trust you understand.
Reminds me of my freshman year of high school and my crush on Ernest Edwards. 1977 was so wonderful and Peabo Bryson made it easy to dream with his ballads.
This is when our great black artists made love songs the way it was suppose to be made. Feeling, expression, conviction, with soul. So glad I came up where I know the difference between the real thing and bullshit. Back then better times, better people, better places to go and of course better music. (Damn! I remember slow dancing to this at the club because the DeeJay always slowed it down. I would whispers sweet nothings into my partners ear while this song was playing "So where are you from? who are you here with? you sure smell so good baby or is that me?" right then she would laugh, "can I get you a drink after this record? you look so lovely in that red dress, I don't think anyone can wear that dress like you. How about I get your number and we... go somewhere, you know see a movie, take in a bite to eat, better yet there's a concert in town tomorrow, the Whispers do you wanna go?" "Sure, but you didn't even tel me your name." "I'm sorry baby I was so excited, your beauty took me by surprised, wasn't expecting to see something quite like you tonight, I'm King El the Third. Next day I washed my car making it look brand new, got my clothes out of the cleaners, looked at myself in the mirror a thousand times then went to go pick her up, get her door and made sure my afro and gentlemen manners was on point. The good days, no cell phones or social media , just plain good old fashion fun. They can have this chaos today. This right here was real music and I lived in it.
Just one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Peabo was and is still the man. He has captured a special moment in time to earn himself a place in our hearts forever more. God truly blessed this talented brother. I enjoyed some of my most memorable relationship while listening to and enjoying his great musical accomplishments. Peabo is simply a legend.
I know a man who sings like this to me and it makes me love him that much more. I know now what that true love is; from God within him and he is indeed a MOG. He sings his way into my soul almost every day. God bless our love!
Have no words for what this debut album brought to my life. I have been a fan since before being an adult. I always knew he was destined for stardom. He is the ultimate song stylist.
I have to say that this is my favorite Peabo Bryson song. Love hearing him singing in the falsetto register here, it's very comforting for me to hear. Also, I love those falsetto runs that he does at the end of the song (specifically, 3:49 until). Makes me feel like I'm listening to a fantasy when I hear that portion of the song:)
damn real music ,real singing , a man singing bout true love broken down in metaphores ..an artist sharing something we can relate to ..this is soul music gives chills , tear it up peabo, bout to make a grown man cry ..thing bout my highschool sweetheart damn she was fine and tight
I became a Peabo Bryson fan ever since I heard, "I Believe I Can Make It Better" one night while I was on Lock-Up at RCI-H("The Old Jail"), in Hagerstown, MD in 1977! I fell in love with "I Believe I Cam Make It Better"; and I still love it! Peabo could sanged Opera if he wanted to! His range, back then was simply goose-bump-causing! Power voice, musis composition; just a very will arranged set of music, you know?! Violins, french horns! Magnificent!
I heard this song when I was in Barcelona Spain, WOW, Peabo was the best, definitely one of the best male vocalist at that time, I still listen to it . All the tourist said it fit perfectly that evening.
Man oh nan...My favorite Peabo song...The song that tears me up...I'm singing this song thinking about my ex...I BELIEVE!!!!Peabo be SANGING this song no singing but SANGING
This is when I was first introduced to Peabo! I was so in love 🥰 from then on! This was one of his best, but was overlooked for some reason. He says he believes he can make it better!!!!!
I saw Peabo at Bethesda's Blues and Jazz Supper Club in the DMV a few months ago and it was amazing that his voice is as beautiful as it was 40 years ago. He gave a stellar show!!!

Lovely song, thanks for share it! #nowandTHEN #RnB
Why has this dynamic album not been rereleased?! Pure magic!

Heard this once one morning while getting ready for school in Manchester, UK back in 77. It then took me another 35 years to find it.
