Brian Slagel, CEO/Owner of Metal Blade Records, interviews John Arch and Jim Matheos about their "Fates Warning" history. Order Here: www.archmatheos.com
The Specter and The Guardian are two of my favorite metal lp's of all time. Just want the band to know how much those mean to me, I still listen to them 20 years later and still love the music, lyrics, singing and how you guys brought it all together. Thanks from a fan. :)
maybe I'm crazy, but i love the sound/production of 'Guardian'. the immense drums, the subdued yet contradictorily razor-sharp guitar tone, and the angelic vocals.....sign me up from now 'till doomsday. FW (all eras) is a gift from the gods to mankind.
I think the ghost guy is right. Musicians all think their old stuff sucks. But other people like me are like, wait a minute, your so excited about Arch/Matheos (which I have listened to) but your old stuff kicks the crap out of The new stuff. How its processed, musically, lyrically, everything. The saddest question I could ever here is: "Who's Fates Warning?" Poor, poor underrated Fates Warning. Best band ever. \m/
Been listening to the first 3 albums every day for the past 4 years. My younger brother got me into them and i love him forever for that. Awaken The Guardian always brings a tear in my eye
"Specter Within" was the best album these guys put out. I dont know how or why but i when explaing to people what Fates Warning was, i called it "Intelligent Metal" John Arch is such a good singer, looking at him here, he looks like a dad, "just a guy" but his secret identity is super rockstar!! My second favorite release was "Awaken the Guardian" the second singer (Ray Alder) is a good singer but no one, NO ONE can fill John Arch's shoes.
I still listen to side two of The Spectre Within on cassette. The Apparition, *haunting*, Kirie Elesion, *mischevious*, Epitaph... *flawless*. That, and blight on the soul. Epitaph keeps me in check. Who wants to be; lost in silence, swallowed in vastness... drowned, in the depths, of a meaningless past...? Fuckin' Brilliant stuff, John. Amazing and scarifying.

Funny. I like their first three albums the best.
I don't know why Jim thinks old records are not so good, I think they are amazing.
Yes Jim Matheos is Greek.. I just asked him to confirm after the gig tonight in Toronto

The first three albums still sound great and are produced better than the over-processed and overdubbed stuff out today.
Matheos is really a talented dude.

Heartbreaking to hear them trash guardian. Well i love them and truly appreciated they included the lyrics to guardian.
I think it's time for another one of these, but this time for the incredible new Fates record! ;)
Gosh . . .
Love to hear the love for Epitaph. Probably my favorite tune out of the 1st 3 albums.
