Album of the decade!
As I love this album ....so glad to find this interview, as I was really curious to see where they got the song ideas from.
Yes!!! Arch/Matheos!!!
John looks like an insurance salesman. Hard to understand how so many years later he is still a monstrous vocalist. Great album!
+Justin Gulbransen He had a 17 year break.
+verve92 17 year break and he sounds as good if not better than he ever has. They need to make another album!
Arch/Matheos at Kepp It True XV!!!! in Germany!
4:40 John Arch is a MASTER bike-rider then...
Can't wait to see them on tour !
Both genius here
Jim is a beast on the guitar but pretty soft, albeit well spoken in person.
He's also got a great sense of humour e.g 5:26
Can't wait to hear this Masterpiece.
So that's Brian Slagel? I know this is about Arch/Matheos (which is hands-down the best record in its genre in, man, maybe a decade), but I've been seeing Brian's name on great Metal Blade records for 25 years now; how about a shout-out to the man for all he's done for metal? MB's not just a cornerstone of the scene, its frickin FOUNDATION. Thanks for everything, Brian, including making this incredible reunion record possible.
It sounds like the album was a very natural process and that they took all the time they needed. I guess this really benefits the record and could make it a true masterpiece, the first parts sound stunning!
Nice interview. Those guys seem really cool. I can't wait to hear the entire record!
This album is better than I expected. Just amazing. The drumming is really really good. The drumming sounds similar to Mark Zonder. This is a masterpiece!!!!!
@Methrt3 me either,,i am sooo happy right now
I know this is a petty and strange request... any chance you two would be willing to try and rewrite No Exit with Arch as if he had never left, just completely create a new album with the sketch of the old ideas? It would be a dream come true and satiate my "what if" hopes of long ago. (I love Alder on No Exit, but just always wondered). And rerecord Specter and Brocken with good production quality!!!
Rerecord everything Alder did.
John, I would like to thank you for taking care of your voice! Thank God, I bet you never put a cigar to mouth! Just goes to show you when your career is on the line, smoking is non-existant!! Definately going out to buy two or three copies for myself and for friends who recognize the magic of prog. rock!!
Really made my day when I heard about this, it is a redundant play in my custom shop, Been a fan of Fates since I first saw them in the 80's with John at Blondies in Detroit. Cant wait for the new Fates album coming, and the next Arch Matheos. Can't get enough of Joey Vera and Bobby together, Awesome rhythm section
Like many others, I have been waiting a long, long time to hear John Arch's unbelievable vocals paired up again with the skill of Jim Matheos' compositions. I would have been happy with a mediocre release just to hear Arch's voice again, well this is not mediocre. This is as good as prog metal gets in any era: 80's , 90's, now, then, future! I'm glad these guys friendship made this cd possible. This is sympathetic resonance in action: collaborative writing and ideas inspiring each other.
@moinmoin666 I know I nearly fainted haha
Honestly he sounded better than ever
Can we have a new set of interviews for "Winter Ethereal" por favor :)?
@jackmarsilva It's not his career. Technically it never was his career. He never made a living from it. He crafts furniture I believe. So if he hasn't smoked (who's to say he hasn't? Russell Allen smokes and still has a monster voice.) or drank much or whatever then it's not been for his career's sake. His career has never been on-the-line.
