Super stoked to see this video and hear about y’all’s sailing adventure! NZ always seems to have zero wind or 40knots 😂 I was happy to hear how much you enjoyed the blow once you settled in, fantastic experience 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you. Haha, spot on with the wind - all or nothing. It was a great time, especially the rough weather, a real sense of achievement and feeling alive.
Stoked to find your channel! This voyage is epic and super inspiring to watch. We are living aboard our Gulfstar 44 in Whitianga at the moment, planning to take her offshore 2026 season to Fiji. We were in Blenheim for 6 years surfing Kaikōura, often with Al in the water, and I remember briefly meeting you at Chch women's surf comps. Very cool to see and follow your sailing adventures. See you on the seas/in the waves. Ellie, Pete and Ocean.
A great video with some exciting sailing, I'm retired from work now but in younger days I have sailed out of Wellington and around the Sounds sometimes crewing with people I've met through doing engine repairs on their boats and excepting payment by sailing and enjoyed every minute of it. Sailing out of Wellington you have Cook Strait to contend with strait away 🤔🤔🤣🤣🇳🇿🇳🇿
I wondered where you disappeared to, kept looking at the gap between the poles wondering what sailing adventure you were doing. Nicely filmed tells the story well. Next sail to the islands?
Haha, yes off the piles and on adventures. I think the only logical thing next is the islands. But, we'll see, I am still deciding. I am looking forward to some more exploration around northland.
Thank you my friend. A great time, learning a lot and now loving the beautiful Bay of Islands. It's nice to sail shorter distances and in protected waters, I am not used to this luxury.
Great trip, no wind then to much. Can't beat a Contessa. Woundered why you did not use your Hydrovane, would have been great in those strong winds. Enjoy the north island.
A little bit of exploring around northland before the next big leg - a little undecided at this point but either Pacific Islands or more remote NZ islands.
Great video, great voyage. If you're still in the Bay of Islands, you might like to come over and visit the Russel Boating Club in Matauwhi Bay. Bar and bistro are open Wednesday, Friday and Sunday in winter from 5pm.
Thanks, yes I plan to stay for a little while and do some exploring. I have already had the pleasure of stopping by Russell Boating Club and had a great meal there! I will be back!
To make your next trip more authentic both you need to get mokos and wear grass skirts.. it would be really nice if you both also learned how to use poi's, I'm excited to teach you both how to eat boilup! Homai Te pakipaki
Well done Lucy and Evie. Thanks for sharing your lovely sailing experience and sights. Loved it!
Ah thank you so much. We had a great adventure :)
Kia Kaha guys. That was an impressive trip. Done it a few times myself in similar yachts. Builds confidence.
Thank you! Every trip I do like this just keeps building my confidence and of course experience. It's great fun.
I have just found your channel. It is wonderful to find a kiwi sailing channel. And the video was good. Have subscribed.
Thanks so much. My videos are pretty basic but I will look at doing a better job on future adventures I think.

Loves this episode. What a crew and boat!
Thanks so much.
Thankyou for sharing. Go you! An epic adventure. I'm glad you found that the scariest sail was also your best. Congratulations.
Thanks for the comment, it was a good little adventure.
Yaye ladies x 3 - women of the waves & wind - wave warriors 🙏🏼🐚🩵
Ah thank you for the comment! We felt like strong women out there.🩵

Cook Strait is always fun... haha
I like your boat!
Thank you - a Contessa 32, she's a beaut!
That hot water cooker / kettle is great
It's so good, I just made a gimbal for my jetboils and it works so well.
Well done, and a nice chilled vibe to the trip
It was a very chilled vibe, even through rough weather.

Brilliant, that is a trip many sea dog might avoid , all kudos to you both
Thanks so much, it's great that my boat handles it so well.
This is GREAT, Lucy. I kinda teared up at the end. Well done. I hope you are enjoying the sailing in that part of Aotearoa as much as I did. Aroha

Great confidence, teamwork and skills-building experience!
Thanks, learning a lot each time.
Great sailing again! You thinking of a windvane? Autopilots juice thirsty and weak...
Look forward to the next leg
Yes, I have a wind vane that is a bit broken. I need a new set up - I'd love a Hydrovane but I just can't afford one. Would be a dream.
Looks like great fun! Do you ever drag Al out for a sail?
Haha, yep! He's keen to do some bigger trips now too, so stay tuned.
Awesome. Some exciting Sailing. I hope to make that trip one day on Unreal.
HI David, Unreal Lovely boat. I looked after her for the Kelly's for quite a few years. Hows she going?
It was an exciting trip, really good fun and a sense of accomplishment once we came into the Bay of Islands.

Agree, can't beat a Contessa! I do not have a Hydrovane but would LOVE one. I do have a CapeHorn wind vane but it is a little bit broken.
Sorry though it was a Hydrovane. Had one on my CO32, a brilliant bit of kit. Great video 👍⛵️✅️
What's next on your sailing adventure?

Shark dolfin or orca?!
watching ubtwo sharkbaiting yourselves makes me nervous 😬
We were unsure, a whale of some description but we didn't figure it out. I might ask an expert.
@@duncanmcdowall haha.
I thought orca at first, dorsal fin not high enough?
@@frankharris4694 yeah dorsal too small I'm sure.
Great sail... Wondered where Nerrissa headed off to...
Thanks, yes, northland for the moment.
