I enjoyed watching this episode. Great you were able to hang on in there despite weather and electrical issues. All the best for the race. Admire your determination and will follow your progress with interest.
That's a challanging sail! I liked your backup nav solution. I am going to adopt that idea, very clever. Watched a couple of your other videos and very impressed with the thoroughness of your fit out.
Early on in this trip, I had lost the steering oar when some large waves came over the cockpit area - I had a lanyard on it so I could retrieve it but I couldn't reattach it for use in those conditions. Another lesson learnt and something to consider for the future.
Great to see Lucy. I bumped into your channel way back in your Cracklin Rosie days and was stoked to see you move to Nerissa K (Contessa fan here)...have been following your channel ever since. Well done on getting out there in the race, but bummer about having to turn back! I was watching the fleet tracker and couldn't believe it when you made your u turn. But great decision. Looking forward to seeing your next move!
Thanks so much. My videos are fairly basic but gives a small insight. Yes, I was devastated to have to turn back but a fantastic experience overall and always learning. I would never have pushed myself in these conditions otherwise.
Test by fire. Thought I saw on an earlier video that you had a wind vane self steering. Did you take it off. That storm must have built your confidence. Well done. 👍
Yes, so much learnt and built confidence in my boat and myself. Early on in this trip, I had lost the steering oar for my wind vane when some large waves came over the cockpit area - I had a lanyard on it so I could retrieve it but I couldn't reattach it for use in those conditions. Think you need to go back and do some homework.... Like a lot of solo sailors things go wrong, and your first job is to keep you and the boat safe....NOT stop and film everything.. (And yes i solo sail and live on my yacht and have had things go wrong from time to time, its part of the sailing lifestyle!)
Thanks for your comment. Yes, as I only had my IPhone as my navigation/gps and for photos etc. and to be honest filming was not a priority for me. I had the race committee tracking me so nothing to prove to anyone else, only some pics and footage for my family and friends.
Thanks Wayne, yes most of the time it did not even cross my mind to film - in the dark, when I am trying to keep everything under control. Thanks for your support! Lucy.
Great episode sailing ⛵️ thanks for sharing. Greetings from beautiful tropical Hawaii islands ⛵️ 🏝
Thanks - I hope to do some sailing around beautiful Hawaii. I have surfed there and it's a very special place.
Fantastic film. Proper raw sailing and very inspirational.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it, Lucy.
Well done. Hand steering for hours is no joke. Good job.
Thanks, long days hand steering was exhausting.

I was surprised that you didn’t mention the wind vane self steering. Fair winds
