I can't help but admire Mark's dedication to keep up with so many different genres at once and select the best for more casual consumers through videos like this one. I don't listen to nearly as much music as he does, but I did think a little bit about which songs I've been enjoying the most over the past few months, so here are my favorite songs of the year thus far: 10. "Hiss" by Megan Thee Stallion 9. "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" by Taylor Swift 8. "6:16 in LA" by Kendrick Lamar 7. "Sad Boys Don't Go To Heaven" by Rosendale 6. So I will admit I don’t get modern rap at all I have not like a mainstream rap song in well over a decade (of course Kendrick is the exception). So what’s the appeal of Hiss I don’t get it
@@RyanSchilling-fg9qn At least to me, Hiss's most profound appeal is on the lyrical level. Given all the misogynistic discourse surrounding Megan over the past two years, it feels incredibly cathartic to see her clap back with quotable line after quotable line while dismantling her detractors and asserting her own power. Combine that (although these points are admittedly more subjective) with a nice, punchy flow and a beautifully mixed instrumental, and you get the song I apparently listened to the most over the entire season of winter.
I saw Nourished By Time live a few weeks back. It was a solid show. It's also a safe bet that the next time I see him it won't be in a small club. He's on the come up and I am on board

Hey mark can you put your top 3 songs of the album when you reveal it in the future? I never have time these days to listen to much new music or even watch longer videos of yours and its nice get a good quick taste of an album to see if I should listen to more
he got rid of it in 2020 because it didn't feel like it was worth the effort... definitely empathize though. for what it's worth, there's usually a good chance that the song he's playing during the entry is somewhere in his top 3.
I feel in my own taste, my favorites tend to pluck from the middle of your list. It's interesting the way that goes. Katie Pruitt is currently at the top for me, pretty easily, though I'm excited to see who could top her at the same time, for an album I love but I'm not even sure if I like it more than Expectations she's just so great.
Number 15 is an incredibly valid choice and I'll hear no other argument. Nourished By Time's next record is gonna be a BANGER if this is any indication
Album best so far this year 1. The Last Dinner Party Party Prelude to Ecstasy 2. Rapsody please don’t cry 3. St. Vincent All Born Screaming 4. vampire weekend Only God Was Above Us 5. Beth Gibbons Lives Outgrown 6. Molly Lewis On The Lips 7. Everything Everything Mountainhead 8. Lupe Fiasco samurai
For me my ranking is 1- What Happened To The Heart by Aurora. This is by far my fav album of the year. The vocals are otherworldly on this album one listen to Dreams will be enough to bring any human to tears. This is what music is supposed to be. Not only is it my fav album of 2024 but my fav album ever made. Dreams is stunning, starvation is life changing, my name and my body not mine are genius. The whole album has not a single flaw and makes every other album I ever heard (besides her other 4) sound just slightly worse in comparison. 2- hit me hard and soft by Billie Eilish 3- Im Doing It Again Baby by Girl In red 4- 3 by for tet
@@RyanSchilling-fg9qn Yeah it's strange that it's gone under the radar... maybe because it was released around the same time as too many other big releases. It was well received by critics at least :). She was already good but she reached a new level with this album imo.
i did NOT expect ttpd to make this list, but it’s a welcome surprise, since i genuinely like it for all of its campy drama, sad to see adeem missed the cut, but it’s not as good as white trash revelry, so i get it, and i’m glad to see one night stand getting the love it deserves, it’s great. also surprised that THE GREATEST missed the list, that song is amazing.
It’s not a good album imo it’s her 4th worst midnights, reputation and self tilted are worse. Not saying it’s bad but I don’t think it’s very good. And to have it on the list and not the new Aurora or new Billie Eilish makes 0 sense to me
@@RyanSchilling-fg9qn I get it. I don't think TTPD is a good album (tho I def agree with Mark that the anthology is less interesting than the first half - at least the first half has a point; the rest is mostly just pretty with some highlights, but I find it mostly forgettable), but the tolerance for the first half will be entirely dependent on how much you think Swift's anger is understandable and if she succeeds in portraying herself as an unlikable person and is aware of it. Mark relates to her, so the album has a really good score. I wish Mark and others stopped pretending Swift and TTPD are underdogs tho. The album got rave reviews at first, and "bad" (meaning lukewarm) reviews after 2-3 days. It will absolutely be on many year end's best lists and it might win the grammy for AOTY (there are factors against it but none of them have anything to do with the album's quality)
The only albums I know of that for released so far this year are: 1. Green day's Saviors (studio album) 2. Benson Boone really grew on him to be his favorite album so far this year.
Tapir with my favourite album of the year so thank you for the recommendation
The first year where my favorite album of the year so far is also yours. Nice!
Number 15 is an incredibly valid choice and I'll hear no other argument. Nourished By Time's next record is gonna be a BANGER if this is any indication
Album best so far this year
1. The Last Dinner Party Party Prelude to Ecstasy
2. Rapsody please don’t cry
3. St. Vincent All Born Screaming
4. vampire weekend Only God Was Above Us
5. Beth Gibbons Lives Outgrown
6. Molly Lewis On The Lips
7. Everything Everything Mountainhead
8. Lupe Fiasco samurai
For me my ranking is
1- What Happened To The Heart by Aurora.
2- hit me hard and soft by Billie Eilish
3- Im Doing It Again Baby by Girl In red
4- 3 by for tet
Aurora's album is so underrated
@@eleo1484 it’s as flawless as music can ever get and yet no one’s talking about it like huh. She is the best artist ever by far in history imo
@@RyanSchilling-fg9qn Yeah it's strange that it's gone under the radar... maybe because it was released around the same time as too many other big releases. It was well received by critics at least :). She was already good but she reached a new level with this album imo.
@@eleo1484she has my 5 fav albums ever made. This is as flawless as music has ever gotten in history imo
i did NOT expect ttpd to make this list, but it’s a welcome surprise, since i genuinely like it for all of its campy drama, sad to see adeem missed the cut, but it’s not as good as white trash revelry, so i get it, and i’m glad to see one night stand getting the love it deserves, it’s great. also surprised that THE GREATEST missed the list, that song is amazing.
The only albums I know of that for released so far this year are:
1. Green day's Saviors (studio album)
2. Linkin park's papercuts the singles 2000 to 2023 Greatest Hits album which includes their latest post humorously chester bennington song friendly fire
