Note that the damaged area also takes one phase of the AC across to one of the three ground caps on the cold side. One track usually survives but the other (near ground of bridge) burns out. I drill out the track at a corner near the cap and run another wire across so that cap is in the circuit. Sometimes damage from the burning is minimal, but other times there is lots of shorting and the 2A cylindrical fuse also goes.

I took my Sonos play 3 and placed in neatly in the dumpster, it works fine, Sonos way of using speakers is obsolete. If I can't bluetooth direct what I want to play and from what I want to play it, the speaker is useless. No Sonos app crap.

Hi! I can really feel your pain, but on the other hand, I love the multi-room system that Sonos offers. Sure, there are some limitations with a ‘closed’ ecosystem, like the lack of Bluetooth compatibility. But at least you can use AirPlay if you’re an Apple user.

my guess is the reason for the 3 caps is lower ESR than a single cap

thanks for the detailed video! i have the same unit with same issue and same burn marks on the pcb, i have read all the thread on sonos community forums about this common issue, unfortunately in my case i replaced the 3 caps, bridge rectifier, fuse and also bridged a cable from cap+ to bridge rectifier+ and i get all the same readings as you, but as soon as i plug the board in, i get a big bang and the fuse will pop 😬, i checked for shorts everywhere else and it looks fine but im lost now! any change you have a list of what voltage outputs this psu will provide? in the video you only have the 2 first pins with 5v shown ! im thinking of replacing the psu with something else!

Hi! Mhhh, I can really feel your pain: I hate PSUs! :D They are a nightmare to repair - at least for me. You could definitely “skip” the PSU and use a simple power supply that outputs the right voltage and solder it directly to the corresponding points on the motherboard. I did this in my debut video on this channel with a SONOS PLAY:1. But be warned, that video is really crappy, but hey, it was my very first video 😜

I have a board that hasnt blown any caps. I have power on the high voltage side but after the transformer I have incorrect voltages. How do i sorce a new transformer? Please help

Hi Russel! I'm not really a power board expert, but from what I know, transformers are very specific to each particular power board. So I'm pretty sure you won't find a replacement. The only option might be to get a donor board. 🫤

Great Job on the repair ! So im not super tech savy and i just got a fantastic deal at my local thrift store. I got 2 Play 1s and a Playbar for the fantastic price of $100. Im getting the electric burn smell from the play1s slightly but dont know how to do what you do lol Should i contact a speaker repair shop or laptop repair? Translation:
"I have one of these Sonos play3. Is there a way to adapt it to a USB Bluetooth transmitter system? I like the audio quality, but it is uncomfortable to only connect it to a network cable."
Modifying the Sonos and soldering a generic Bluetooth transmitter to the PCB is possible. But the main purpose of the Sonos system is the multi-room capability. So you would sacrifice a big benefit. The Sonos Play:3 is WiFi-capable, so you don't necessarily need a LAN cable.
