I like the "shaker" on Big Blue. When I was driving, we didn't have things like "shaker", Air gates and automatic canopies. Enjoy the luxuries of today's engineering. Great Video Chris, always a pleasure to watch.
built many many arenas, takes a special type of sand to do it right, I would never use those screenings underneath, they pack too tight. need to drag the arena deep and loosen it up with two special shaped types of sand on top. you could have a full time job putting sand in and rolling it up for this gal. Made a big difference using the right stuff with proper drainage underneath on our arena.
Over the course of my career I’ve seen my share of accidents, when I saw him stick his head in between the bed and the gate I said a prayer that the driver wouldn’t pull forward at that instant
You got a nice "inside job" while the other projects dry out so they are not so muddy. You have a nice touch with the "Taki". You & D. need a drag like that to spread the pasture patties out where the 'grass puppies' roam.
We just built at 135 x 225 outdoor arena. Had about 16 loads of quarter down for 4"+base, followed by about 8-10 tri axle loads of masonry sand to create a 4" layer of sand for the horses. We are a hunter/jumper facility so we need a much deeper base. We do have a similar arena drag by Caroline Equipment company, funny. It was quite the feat. That is one good looking arena.
The sound and motion in these videos are very soothing. I am addicted just to the comfort of watching. But nothing beats seeing a huge wall of vines being pulled down and out. Then there is the rescue of heavy machinery from a sloppy, muddy pond of goo to keep one focused on the screen.
a lot of the time I have Chris' videos on in the background because it provides a soothing constant sound. It's like that soothing comfort you get when listening to rain, but with machinery.
I find using a metal Gate toed behind a quadbike or a car with a sleeper tied to it around the 2-3 bar up on the gate and it will smooth that Arena perfectly, Great for maintaining the Arena after use..
This is the first letsdig18 video my daughters were interested in as well. But sorry Chris, it was not about your great work but only about the horse arena😅
Interesting about the hardness. My daughter is a dressage rider (my bank account has ached continuously for over a decade). Up in the mid-Atlantic, we mix chipped rubber in with sand for a composite footing.
I did a practice track in lexington ky back in 85. They brought in 2 different types of sand on rail cars for it. Not sure what the type of sand was, I just know that the top 8 inches was a type from Arkansas. Went back once a year for several years to re grade and pull the sand back up from around the inside rail.
Well pulled a letsdig18 move. After watching for 5 years I Just rented a doosan dx225lc to stump my 10 acres that just got clear-cut of 30 year old pines.
Yeah they make them serious, my brother integrated several of them into his store(s) defin push a lot in the heat of the summer, 1st time i saw one ( before that) its like dang thats a Big Ass fan, until i realized that's actually what it is, a Genius marketing strategy for sure
Spent half a day on a tractor, the other half working on an old dozer, and what do I do to relax? Watch a guy resurface a horse arena. I'm beginning to worry that my brain may need more work than either the ranch or the dozer.🤪
Funny, arena is the name for sand in Latin, that's how the place for games was called in ancient Rome, where games were held, the ground was covered in sand.
I got involved in a similar job once, the quad rake is great for daily dressing, but tends to knock the dust/fines out of the rubber, which then get compacted. We found, every so often a bit deeper dig over with a tractor mounted cultivator/really stiff spring tine to loosen up the compacted fines and mix the rubber chips back below the surface to help the springiness was the best routine. Much cheaper than regular sand topups too.👍🇬🇧👍
Chris we never see your interaction with clients but judging by the great projects you work its probably a fun part of your job its cool they let you film for youtube
Your customer needs to purchase one of the devices that goes on a skidsteer, and is used to "Fluff-up" bedding for dairy cows. SuskDutch Kid uses them on his family's dairy farm. Works great for them and they bed with sand.
That's one Bad Ass Horse Arena !, Man !! and those mirrors are pretty awesome too !! Yeah, That turned out really nice Chris !! Great Job Man, Have a Great Evening, and On too the Next....
I like how you can watch yourself work in that big mirror, makes that place look bigger than it already is. Put some sides on that thing, with a floor, make a nice shop.
Should have gotten a Dakota pull spreader like they use on golf courses to top dress greens, fairways or ballfields. Can put it on as thick as needed, but you did a good job with what you had...
If you only had a paving machine. We have walking trails up here where the old railroad tracks use to be and they used a paving machine for it with sand .it worked good
Looks real nice bud ..and allways nice to have a flat surface to start but would have sucked if dump trucks couldn't get in there phew but great job .godbless and stay safe

Indoors, no mud, got to play on a quad and mirror to watch yourself by must be a good day. :)

Damn..... that is a lovely dressage arena! Covered, lighted, Big Ass fans, mirrors, and footing by Chris. What more could you want?

Yep he almost got pinched by the gate

Quick and clean job! The horses will be pleased.
