If the cube and the root are not an integers, (or an integer multiplied by 1000 to any integer power) the root will quite often not be close .
Take the number 7971 for instance: Using this trick, the root is 11. That is a whooping 45% less than the real root. Not "close" by any means
222619. The trick gives a roof of 69. The actual roof is around 60.6, about 14% off
Basically all the trick does is give you the first number of the root, and you don't need the trick for that anyway
There are good reasons this is not taught in schools, because it is basically useless for anything real
