So glad you ended with the outro to Jimi's Bold As Love!!! It sounds like the whole band is going through a flanger! One of my other favorite flanger moments is the intro to House Burning Down on Electric Ladyland, sounds like the guitar is on fire.
Such a classy way to close the video! It really was eye-opening to see that all these great songs used this effect (spare me, I've hardly ventured into the world of pedals!), but was pleasantly surprised and especially blown away by Bold as Love; that ending solo is a special kind of euphoric and I feel that the song as a whole deserves more love, so you're awesome for sharing it! Also hope the vocals stick around in your videos.
Several moments on Duster's "Stratosphere" album have ear-gasmic flanger usage (The Queen of Hearts, Landing, etc). The guitar playing on that album is simply gorgeous, and who knows exactly what set-up they had when recording it but whatever they did, the tones they achieve throughout that album are jaw-dropping.
The "And the Cradle Will Rock" intro was actually recorded on a Wurlitzer electric keyboard pushed through a flanger and then through Eddie's Marshall. But still an awesome video. Some of these songs I've never head of and will probably check out.
The 'Keep Yourself Alive' intro is actually TAPE FLANGING. They didn't have a flanger pedal... Queen used tape flanging on many songs and all different instruments! Super Cool...
Great list and advert for MXR . Nice vocals too but my favorite flange moments were an era . The Pat Travers Band late 70s early 80s lineup with Pat Thrall , Tommy Aldridge: most flangey shimmery badassness evar imho
I love that swooshing drum pitch alternating digging into the harmonic tones tibre structure sounds with a laughing gas effect to the brain and ears... FLANGING !!!! Or is it Phase Shifting?!???
I was in high school when Spirit of Radio came out ... and between that and EVH stuff everyone liked to crank the flanger up and try to replicate those tasty lines! Fun video (sorry, not going to do a 'list is not complete because of X' comments ...)
That was different to hear some singing added to the mix. Great job by the way on Nobody's Fault But Mine. Didn't Bethany mention that she liked your singing voice in the last podcast?
Guys. It's using reel to reel tape double-tracking/flanging A studio trick used by heaps of artists in the sixties which is what flanger pedals are actually trying to emulate, listen to the song it's applied to all tracks including drums There is no univibe on bold as love :)
'Bold As Love'...superb choice. but don't forget 'pictures of matchstick men'(status quo), 'itchykoo park (small faces), or my personal fave, 'you don't love' off the 'super session' album
Sounded great! Lesser known, but the opening to Solar Angels by Judas Priest is another classic flanger riff. (And if you can find a flanger pedal that can emulate it, let me know because I haven’t found one yet).
Thanks for the upload! Flanger is really weird isn't it? Barracuda is the one song that justifies the use of this effect in my unhumble opinion. Phaser, reverb, chorus, or distortion are all very useful. Still the flanger in the Eddie van Halen song markets this effect in the same way as Barracuda. An engine / motor /rolling / chugging sound. Which indeed is cool. Now I am more comfortable with flanger an I can probably make use of it. Make a new song, call it: "Down the track". Or "Manhunt ". Or "Hemi 64".
just recently bought a board and pedals from Swiff and so fart they sound amazing I gotta get the tone dials just right all magnetic only cables you need is in an out for the board. Gonna get me a good delay and wah to add to it too
@@npBOgory its flanger on the intro and phaser on the solos...then flanger in the middle section. Its obviously a flanger. Flanger was on his pedal board in 1978.....flanger
MXR Flanger, one of the most underrated effects of all time. It's so much more versatile than a chorus, while it still can do that well. My rig for many years was a Rivera-built Fender Concert (1982, one 12") combo with a REAL Echo-Plex and an MXR Flanger. All I needed, especially in the 80's and up to the mid 90's.
I would have Included: "The Number of the Beast" (Iron Maiden), "Unchained" (Van Halen), "Cowboys from Hell" (Pantera)
i just listened unchained today saw a cover by steel panther than i checked the original its wicked
Does Number Of The Beast even have Flanger
@@tyorbs6277 yep
The thing that should not be live Seattle 1989?
@@tyorbs6277 No, that's a phaser.
the fact that Unchained isn't on here is a sin
It's criminal
agreed
That and Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
I think Ain't talkin 'bout love was recorded with a phase 90 though
@@nachex5043 It was a definitely the flanger
"Keep Yourself Alive", nice! I think Brian May riffs are very underrated. Thanks!
I think it's actually a phaser...
@Samí Warrior wut... He's probably one of the most humble guitar heroes out there
@@mtsn It's tape flanging - the old fashioned way to do it, before flanger pedals existed. Queen did this on many songs, many different instruments...
@Samí Warrior You're thinking about Johnny Brat Frusciante.

“Walking on the Moon” by the Police. A lot of people think it’s a chorus but it’s not, Andy Summers used a flanger on subtle setting.
many police songs use a flanger!
Blows my mind he didn’t include “Walking On The Moon”. Easily a top three song w/ a flanger.
Love the Police.

Spyguy8404 And Axis was tape flanging/studio effects - there was no flanger pedal back then... but great choices TL
I thought it was Eddie scraping his pick against the springs in the back of his guitar with the flanger on.
Top Chorus Guitar Moments, you can include stuff like _Fade to Black_ and _One_ by Metallica and _Come As You Are_ by Nirvana
Andrew Pappas Ooh and Purple rain
I agree, I like so much Chorus...., but the most tricky would be Top Vibrato Guitar Moments...or Best Boss HM-2 Moments.............
Andrew Pappas And all Rush songs since Hemispheres
And the beginning ofParadise City.p
Martin Hroch Of course, that was the first G'n'R song I ever learned
Yes!! finally!! I needed to hear the fx flanger in the song ARE YOU GO MY WAY !!! thanks thanks thanks !!! This is the effect I was looking for !!

The zero point pedal by catlinbread gets really close
I'm sooo glad you put Life in the fast lane in the video.
Great stuff, you nailed The Spirit Of Radio and Barracuda.
Yay!!!! A Music is Win vid!
i love nobody's fault but mine😍
Pretty sure that was a phaser
Others have said it too -- "Unchained" by Van Halen is far and away the most killer use of a flanger on a rock guitar riff ever.
Great list and advert for MXR . Nice vocals too but my favorite flange moments were an era . The Pat Travers Band late 70s early 80s lineup with Pat Thrall , Tommy Aldridge: most flangey shimmery badassness evar imho
Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell" is a good example
Dcruz Al Raph flanger too
I knew most of 'em and didn't expected a Phaser behind the Songs, man I need to learn more 'bout effects.
Nice Vid!
Liverpool Express '' You are my love.
Stone Roses ''Made of stone.
The Police ''Every little Flanger does is magic....
Made of Stone is better than any of the song on this list. Doesn't a Cure song or two use a Flanger.
Where is Unchained? It has to be the most famous one..
it's his favourites, they don't have to be the most popular ones
but Unchained still n1 Flanger song in the face of the earth...
You are right, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this video pop up is Unchained is one
Can’t forget bark at the moon
WHERE IS Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love?
WHERE DAFUQ IS UNCHAINED?
Zippy so weird he went with a keyboard song for VH on flanger instead of unchained or hear about it later
I seriously love these kinds of videos
The voice
Oooooh Barracudda! With 2 D's! The extra D is for... Distortion? Delay? Djent? Derp? Great list though!
Where cowboys from hell?
Bumper 3007 hell yea.
101 per cent dude
101 per cent dude
I was literally thinking of that song when I read the video title.
The flanger is just used for the open E chugs, not really a great use of the effect
I own one of these flangers from the '70s best flanger I've ever used.
I also have one, the big MXR with the attached power chord, sounds amazing but a pain to put on a pedal board!!
The number one song I think of when I think flanger is Unchained by VH
Still though, this was a great video!
Please do Habits of Angus Young
Jan Jon yes! This!
Damn that flanger fits spirit of radio perfectly
Rhinoceros by Smashing Pumpkins
I struggle to really be into Zeppelin, but Nobody's Fault but Mine is one hell of a freakin' tune
This whole list could be made with Van Halen songs
Really enjoyed the singing in this man, definitely want more in future vids :)
Glad but Surprised to See Queen on here. Great video
one of queen's best flanger riffs IMO is One Vision
What about number of the beast?
I love the flanger effect on that riff
Yeah, me too

Turbo Lover?!
Shine on you fucking crazy diamond?!?!?
Jaume Casanova That's a Phaser, Comfortably Numb and other tracks from the wall are a Flanger.
That's a phaser
Elliott T run like hell?
susi the sus aynHu Indeed, also the solo of Young Lust and such.
That was different to hear some singing added to the mix. Great job by the way on Nobody's Fault But Mine. Didn't Bethany mention that she liked your singing voice in the last podcast?
I kept waiting for him to play Rooster for the entire video 😞
that's a robovibe i think
Definitely some Gilmour moments should have been there!! :)
I think the most iconic flanger riff has to be Message in a Bottle
That's chorus, not flanger
Szaby's Channel contrary to popular belief it is, Andy summers often used an ehx flanger that he dialed in for a chorus like tone
Wait... I thought bold as love was a vibe and not a flanger? 🤔
Me too
Luiz Pires bassicaly the same thing
It is. Hendrix never got a flanger, cause they weren't a big thing or even existed back then.
Guys. It's using reel to reel tape double-tracking/flanging
A studio trick used by heaps of artists in the sixties which is what flanger pedals are actually trying to emulate, listen to the song it's applied to all tracks including drums
There is no univibe on bold as love :)
I always thought Hendrix always used manual flanging with reel tapes too.
Nice! And he ends with the Bold As Love solo like Jimi
'Bold As Love'...superb choice. but don't forget 'pictures of matchstick men'(status quo), 'itchykoo park (small faces), or my personal fave, 'you don't love' off the 'super session' album

Love the content Tyler!!!keep it up!\m/

The spirit of the radio sounded a bit weak, but the rest of the video was amazing :D
Best Vibe Moments of All Time!!!
Rush is a phaser
Shultz-O-Matic Nope. Electric Mistress Deluxe into a Boss CE-. Positively no phaser.

Always thought so too. That distinctive 'sweep' effect sounds like a phaser.
Sorry bout that comment i dont remember typing that

Is Tyler Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at the same time ?
Shrijan Pandey YESSS
+1 (+100?) for Axis Bold as Love! Love this one.
Intro riff to Number of the Beast!
good shit dude
great list! best chorus moments?
Hey You - Pink Floyd is the best
Un effet que j'adore!
“I love how flanger sounds!”“You’re not just talking about the word, right?”“y-yes?”
The last is the best!
Yes... yes young padiwan. First, the spirit of radio. Now, La Villa Strangiato
Rush is always great!
Ain’t talking bout love?
Thats a phaser, eddie didnt use a flanger till WACF im pretty sure
@@npBOgory its flanger on the intro and phaser on the solos...then flanger in the middle section. Its obviously a flanger. Flanger was on his pedal board in 1978.....flanger
benjamin woodrow yeah i now know, im pretty sure i googled it after making that comment and i was wrong
Siouxsie And The Banshees - Spellbound
Flangers are awesome, just ask the axis
YES KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE! AT LEAST HE KNOWS QUEEN!!!!
Steely Dan - Peg
though it sounds like an MXR Phase 100 it's actually an MXR Flanger, give it a listen!
Finally someone who mentions one of the most underrated flanger riffs there is
Sooo good need a phaser one !
Hello! Number Of The Beast. And for some of these you don't want an MXR. You need an Electric Mistress or something that can cop it.
Good video
Guy is sick too
Lmao right as I saw the thumbnail I knew The Spirit Of Radio was gonna be in the vid
She sells sanctuary
Agree !!
Great song ... think Billy uses flanger, chorus, AND analog delay, all together, on that ... !!
Kieren Moore can hear the delay definitely. Can never tell when a chorus is used with a flanger because they are so similar
What about the breakdown in "fortress" by Alter Bridge? Underrated but amazing!
Where's Hear about it Later?
Flying high again????
FAT HIN I think the same, the tapping section its played with flanger and it's legendary!!
Leonardo Murillo And also the second chorus is satisfying af!!!
FAT HIN Yeah, its a fucking orgasm

Where's "A Forest - The Cure"?!
Unchained?
Jimi forever
1:33 to 1:55
perfect examples
Bold as Love is actually a phaser effect, idk if that's the same thing though
No mention of the song that started it - Itchycoo Park!
Are you Gonna Go My Way , not m117, it is the roland ap7 ( Jet phaser)
Nice MXR ad!
Nice flange mate.
Missing an honorable mention: the start of Fire of Rock by Racer X
