I did the "softy..softy approach" day one with my 2 month old Bully, thank Christ he never cried in the crate, but I started him out in my room a couple of nights, then to the entry way, then in the hallway, now I have him down the hall where he can't see me at night. It worked, no barking or crying at night, he sleeps well.
Currently doing the tough love approach. I got my Puppy yesterday and stayed with her in the living room the 1st night. I made sure to put a sign on my door to inform my neighbors that she will be making noise and to bare with me till she learns to stop. Today I personally went to my neighbor to remind them and ask if they can hear anything. They told me no so that's a great sign that my building has some good sound proofing. 👌🏿 🎉
First night after 4 hours se crying I let her out and back in today 2D nicht after 3-4 in the night I let here out to pie and let here cry but se cry constantly 😢 pffff ??
😢
This guy is a legend thanks for all the vids keep it up
This guy is legend always gives good advice 👊👊👊
Such a great information thanks ❤
I got my Sheltie 10 years ago. Right from the very first day, I started teaching him his name , sit, down, where to potty, and just for fun give me his paw. In just 15 hours he responded to his name, sit, down, and paw. The potty training took a little while, but he got it within a few weeks.
I’m in Australia and just had to say goodbye to my 9 year old Cavalier King Charles, Ruby, a month ago. I decided to get 2 siblings, 1 because I’m home 24/7 so can spend the time to train them & my chosen breeder isn’t breeding anymore. Ruby was a dream puppy, took herself for a nap in her crate from day 1 (never been crated before), very little accidents and the only thing she “destroyed” was the corners of the couch cushions. I am a softy but I know raising 2 siblings is going to be a challenge and hard work but I am willing to put in the time and effort and I know they will reward me with their unconditional love!
I just got 2 kelpie pups. Training will be challenging but i’m also up for the challenge.
Get a job
@@connormorris1889 just because I’m home all the time doesn’t mean I don’t work… don’t judge until you know all the facts
Oh lord… littermate syndrome 🫣
I have littermates and it is the best. They can actually help with training, if one understands you, you can use that to teach it’s sibling. Also never had an issue with littermate syndrome
You have a nice manner …. and very practical approach
Brilliant video Will, and sound advice as always.
Had our new staff pup 10 weeks old but we have watched your videos and still won’t stop biting I am at my wits end
You have a lot of self control. I couldn’t even think straight with 2 puppies running around me!
When I was a nurse, I met another nurse who worked in the neonatal ICU. I asked how she coped with dying infants every day- I'm no softy, but that would literally break me.
She just shrugged and said "honestly I just never really liked babies that much. I don’t see them as full people yet and I think it's a lot sadder when an older child or adult with a fully developed personality dies."
It's a weird answer but it makes sense and it applies to a lot of these jobs. I've done hospice care and I don't find it very sad when someone has a good death, well cared for and surrounded by loving people, after a long life. It’s not like "la la la, pass the chips" but I rarely ever "took the work home".
Basically some people are just weirdly suited to certain roles. Will is obviously a wonderful dude but I think his depression allows him to detach a little bit and it let's him approach puppies in a more rational way that achieves better results for them.
You always help train my puppy .
This is a great video! I'm doing most of these things with my 8 week old Bernadoodle, so a lot of this was reassurance that I'm doing it right. It did, however, highlight for me a couple of areas I need to do better at! One being taking her out every hour, on the hour, and the other being utilizing feeding time as a training tool. Will start those both tomorrow, when we wake up! Thanks, Will!
do you take her out at night? Our family is getting an 8 week old bernadoodle this week and we can't wait.
@@kesni94 Usually we take her out right before bed, then put her in her crate and cover it with a sheet. She's good until morning, when we take her out right after getting her out of her crate. So far, she's doing great! Congrats on your new little one! You're going to love having a Bernedoodle puppy!!
Just found your channel and binge-watched everything! Love your style.
Went to your site to buy 2 1.4m slip leads and hammers, but the leads are out. Any idea when they might be restocked?
Love your videos sir. Watched pretty much everyone now, as we pick up our Cockerpoo in two weeks and have to get it right IMO. I’m planning to sleep where she will have her crate for a few days and take her out every hour through the night, but how long do I do it for?
Always left my 3 goldens alone 1st night , all lived long happy lives
😂 Busted a gut when the “Quick Tips” banners popped up! Great video once again. 🇨🇦👍🏼
Informative 👍
Hi! I have a 4 months old deaf puppy (smooth foxterier). Learned her some gesture commands, for example to sit by raising my hand up etc, but still have some problems with walking out.
If she sees something interesting (for example an other dog, and it's worth noting that she has so good sight that she sees them from quite a distance) she does the opposite of pulling, she just stops like a stone and will stay this way as long as the dog goes off her sight. She's very well socialized, meets other dogs regularly, but still when she sees one in the distance she will just stop, observe and nothing can possibly get her attention. Maybe you would like to cover that topic in one of your videos?
(sorry for any mistakies, english is not my first language)
Your videos are brilliant! Thank you. Do you have any advice for how to stop your dog from eating things they find on the ground outside when they are on ‘break’? I have a golden retriever who is obsessed with eating anything and everything he can find which could be dangerous for him.
Excellent video, thanks (and hello from France from a soon to be Lab owner)
Since I'm starting off with a 48" crate with a divider and can't move it around my townhouse easily, I have a small air mattress that I will sleep on in the living room for the first few nights. I plan to move it farther away towards the stairs each night. I hope this works for my Rottweiler pup just as well. 🤞🤞
Thank you for the tips, we are picking up 2 GSD X Bullmastiffs in a few weeks and although they are very calm...which is why we chose them, this advice is invaluable 🙏
Question! Did they develop littermate syndrome?
@Sanrio_Slooot Unfortunately we took one back within a day due to some health issues that weren't previously disclosed. Kept one who also had some complications, glad we chose just one. Vet bills for both would have crushed us. A friend has bought 2 and is struggling immensely. Would always advise getting one from my experience, its hard enough training one dog. Hope this helps!!👍
@chloedobson7224 OH:( I'm sorry to hear that the babies had health issues and I'm glad you were able to keep one. Thank you for replying!
@Sanrio_Slooot Thank you, it was just meant to be and both dogs are well and happy now!
Hi Will - been watching your videos recently. I was wondering if you have much experience with deaf dogs and if you have any tips? I have a 9 month old deaf Jack Russell who is struggling a bit.
Does the type of dog matter when training? For example, do you train an LGD type dog different than you would a sports type dog?
Do you have any tips on helping puppy behave around kids or I guess respect the kids so that when they give the direction to stop puppy stops?
It's mostly an issue with mouthing/biting when the kids are playing together but not playing with puppy.
Hi, I need advice. I have a 10 month labradoodle very eager and excited. I drill your loose lead training in the back yard(small). He responds really well to this. However when I bring him out into the world everything seems to excite him and make him pull e.g leaves blowing. He also stops his eye contact with me too. What should I do? Thanks
😍 am in love
I think I'm going to be a regular on this channel. Someone just handed me a puppy and said he was abandoned in a Popeye's and gave me some cash and then left. I'm over like... ok, your name is Matthias and I love you my beautiful boy and oh God what do I do? lol
During the day are we supposed to keep the crate in an area where we are so she can socialize ?
Hello! Just wanted to ask if it is okay to let the dog sleep with you on your bed at night time?
I have a 2 month old Dachshund puppy
Is it bad for the dog? And would it affect him or us in the long run?
my lil pup is only just warming upto me, he won't leave my side atm as we're waiting for the crate to come, but he won't take much food and won't drink any water or anything do you think this is just due to him being nervous as it's his first day? I'm just abit worried about how much he's drinking and eating, he did one accident inside but he did 3 pees outside
Wheb theyre 8 weeks old. During the night im guessing we are getting up to take them out for Ps & Ps?
Do I need to get up every couple hours to let him out to the loo? as they can't hold their bladder for very long?
Can you please make a video on teaching how to get your dog to break? Thanks!
Hi Will,
For night times and bathroom, would you recommend waking up to let the puppy out in the middle of the night, or just deal with any accidents in the morning should they occur
Should they occur? They will. He said it already, every hour. At least every two hours. How should a puppy hold it the whole night? Do you exspect that from a baby? Do you wanna let it sit in his own piss and shit? Do you change a diaper after 8 hours? No. Do you leave a young puppy unsupervised for this long hours? No. Too much for you. Don´t get a dog.
Yes you should let the puppy out in the middle of the night. If you do it well, you can have your puppy sleep all night in about a week.
Don't allow to drink water 3hrs prior to bed time, allow to eliminate few times before bed time, wake with alarm every 2-3hrs at nights until pup is 6mo age. Don't give chances for mistakes, even if in crate.
What should I do while the puppy cant leave home yet? It doenst have all the vaccines yet
What if the puppy doesn’t want to eat or drink? First day maybe took a bite or two of her food. Not interested in the food, so we can’t reward her?
Hi will, you mentioned the toilet training taking them outside... We have an 8wk old that's not had her vacancies yet.. Do you know if she's okay to go onto our back garden so we can start the training? Thankyou!
I mean I know you have a year old pup by now but the answer is yes, it's fine. If it's an area frequented by many dogs, especially without shots, then it would be more dangerous. Wild animal droppings should be removed though. They should stay out of any flower beds esp with roses since the thorns and other things can harbor in those. Just an answer for someone else in the future.
What do I do if when I feed the dog she goes and just nipples takes two or three little pieces and then goes back and forth, but she won’t finish the food? I am struggling with this she is about to be 18 weeks old and we just picked her up two days ago
I don’t have space for a crate is it ok not to do this I live in a small flat
All sound advice.
Regarding walking the puppy outside immediately what about parvovirus..
I dont want my fully grown dog sleeping in a crate so do I still crate train them as a pup?
Have you ever discussed your thoughts on CBD
I really trust your trainings and I would just like to know? CBD yes or no??
I’m picking up my 8 week puppy tomorrow. A girl Schnoodle. Can I really expect her to not a have a potty break in middle of the night?
Bite size training info for when the puppers are still bite size. Hehe.
Heads up, oh glorious Canine Leader. We have American football all day from 11a to 11pm on Sundays over here in the States, so that might affect the first day view count numbers of any vids that you post on Sundays. 🏈 If you track that sort of thing, Sundays might not be the best days to drop content.
Thanks so much, brother!
Was just thinking that while watching the Patriots game... Lol
I’m fostering a 6 month old for the past 2 weeks and haven’t been crate training him. Should I start? Is it to late? Are there more training videos on potty training? Or doggy door use?

Pick my puppy 4 days from now. Im thinking of doing crate down stairs and not ignoring the cries but to only take him out to go toilet then bed
I am not being an a-hole. I just got a golden puppy😂. I actually want to understand. Can someone explain to me what the crates are for? I've had dogs my whole life, and we never had crates for anything, even transport. We did have Labs, who were brilliant, so maybe that is why? Idk I'd like to understand it.
Why do I always get the puppy blues and want to cry after getting a puppy
Just got mine today, shes super smart, nailed the name , sit comand ant toilet place in the first 10hours, wich 3 of them she was sleeping. she already know that the plastic sheet is her toilet 😁
do you take them out to pee at night too? how often? when do they sleep through the night?
Have the same question
we're flying our puppy home
👍😊
thank you!
wonderful tips+ sub from me
Love you and the channel will, but WAY too much editing on this one imo
What if you want your dog to sleep with you, not in the crate?
My puppy doesn't even wag his tail 🥲
Hey Will, our 10 week old puppy golden retriever is being crate trained, what about if they are crying at 3am because need the toilet?
Are we contradicting what we’re teaching them by ignoring them and then they poop or pee in the crate?
Will, you ok bro?? That scar on your forehead looks recent. I hope it's nothing serious.
Thank f***, someone who doesn’t take an hour to make one ststememt.
Thanks Mmmmmate, I'm looking forward to get a English Terrier (those shark.heads) and came up yo your videos... simply awesome! Thanks again.
And yeeeeee, I love your accent, where R U from?
🥂
Puppy on passengers knee not a crate!
or between passengers legs on the floor (on a leash).
